Thank you all so very much for the powerful Lantus/Levemir Land prayers and all your posts yesterday. I am sorry that I've been so fixated on Gracie this week that I have not kept up on who is in need of vines and prayers but please know that we always keep you all in our prayers and send extra for those who need them.

We're home and LBG did fantastic. The anesthesiologist, Dr. L., said she had a textbook (as in perfect) induction, textbook anesthesia during procedure, textbook vitals, textbook recovery. She was extremely happy especially given the diabetes. Of course, Missy G gave me a dropping 86 at AMBG so I texted Dr. L and she said she did not want her any
lower so had me give her a drop of karo knowing that the procedure would not be started before the karo wore off and that it would stop her long enough to get her to the clinic where stress would kick in. Gracie had one tiny tooth at the back of her mouth that was "hanging on by a thread" (thus the odd chewing we'd see lately); they barely touched it and it fell out. There was a small amount of infection so she got a clindamycin shot and is on clavamox. She had full digital X-rays before and a follow up after to be sure there was nothing left of the little tooth/roots. When they brought her out to me, she was wide awake. She's been very happy to be home and is very steady on her feet.

The funniest thing happened, though. Dr. L came out as soon as Gracie was done and she felt coming out of the anesthesia well. She said, "boy, she made it clear she was not happy with me". I said, "did she hiss?". She said, "No...but if looks could kill, I'd be dead right now". :joyful::joyful: So she
and the vet tech both got the infamous LBG stinkeye as the vet tech told me later that as she was transferring her back to her basket after the dental, Gracie also gave her the stinkeye. But she said as soon as she had her transferred, she started purring.

I had a very long and interesting discussion with Dr. L on giving insulin tonight, etc. I told her some members' cats had experienced effects on BG (dropping) long after waking up and being at home. She said that it depends on if and how the kitty was induced and what was used. She said
propofol and ketamine are known for causing instabilities but until 2014, the FDA had not approved what is used for induction in Australia, Canada, and Europe which is Alflaxalone. She said Alfaxalone gives a super smooth induction and does not affect cardiac or other parameters like propofol and ketamine and does not have the risk of neurologic impairment that ketamine can. She said, ECID, but she does not expect that Gracie will have dropping BGs and said if Gracie is eating normally and appears to be feeling well, she should be fine with a normal dose of insulin provided we monitor her closely especially around onset time.

Gracie is eating now and even though her BG is super high for her (I'm certain a lot of it is stress as she easily climbs over 100 mg/dL with vet stress), we are just letting her have very small amounts spaced out so we don't think we will give any R. I think we will just let her have small amounts to eat over the next few hours and if she's doing well and her BG is still really high, we will shoot an hour early with her levemir. We don't want to feed her too much too fast and won't give R without food on board.

Again...thank you for all of your prayers. I'm going to go take a long nap and let Mike watch her. I do have to say he did a great job last night with her. Normally, we would not control her numbers so much but we needed to have her up enough so +5 was her last meal until +10. He did a great job managing the curve so that could happen.

Have a great day....:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: from Gracie, Mike, and me.

Good for you, Gracie! You did real well, your mamabean and papabean are happy, and you really showed those dental vets that a stinkeye is nothing to be trifled with!!:woot::woot::cat:

Have a good, relaxing evening, Marje. I'm so happy that all went well. And the tooth fairy will certainly bring Gracie something nice tonight!

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

I'm so glad to see your report. I've been praying for Gracie all day. I'm glad things went well. LOL on the stinkeye. Sending more prayers for a quick recovery.

Way to go on the dropping AMBG this morning Gracie. Not like the beans needed extra drama today. I'm so happy everything was textbook today. :):):) Definitely time for a nap followed by an adult beverage or two.

Gracie - I gots Alflaxalone for my dental and I've got one less toofie too. Nice touch wit da Stinkeye - you showed 'em! ~Neko

Good girl Gracie just sailing thru her dental. Sounds like you have an excellent and knowledgeable FD anesthesiologist.
How funny on the famous Stinkeye. Not just Lupita any more! :p Wendy's advice on a nap and an adult beverage or two sounds good. Sending vines for the rest of the evening.

Great to hear Gracie is home and did so well!!

She's a tough little kitty and it's cute that she let everyone know she was displeased with their services....LOL

Have a safe and uneventful night little girl! Your mama and daddybean need a nice relaxing (drama-free) night!

Glad to see a good report on Gracie. I'm sure you are relieved and glad it's all over.
Lots of healing vines to Miss Gracie:cat:

:woot::woot::woot: Great news :woot::woot::woot:

Hehehe good one wif da stinkeyes Gracie - I'm heading right over wif a gum leaf likor bath for you, we get dat vetty stench right off - Vyktor

Wondering how Tobes reacted when she got home? Did she get the "you stink like the vet stink" treatment that she gave him?

I confess I'd have been a teeny bit disappointed if SOMEONE hadn't gotten a stinkeye today! that says she's feeling like herself again!

Exhale. Ah, that feels good. Don't know about you two, but I think I'll tip an adult beverage toward the south to celebrate "It's over."

You go Gracie. A little stink-eye to keep those peons in place! Royalty must be respected and all others must heed her Grace.

Relax. Gracie, be good. Let the beans enjoy you and the evening...oh, and Tobes, too.

Well....was hoping the numbers would come down as the vet stress wore off but at least they didn't go up so very grateful for that!!

Ella: We have a pink pillow for the Principessa to hide her little toofie in so the toofie fairy will bring her some catnip!

Carla: Thank you SO much!!! I could feel the prayers!!

Wendy: I had feared a high BG so I actually was much happier with a lower one that "justified" the skip ;) Nap...check. Adult beverage...another day. Mike has to go to bed early tonight for his flight tomorrow. Hey Soul Sista!!! I just wanted to be sure you had a pardner in one less toofieness. haha how we hid it from our moms, though!!!

Ann: she is an equal opportunity stinkeye giver!

Chris: I'm not sure who was more stressed...her or us. Guess I should have checked my own BG!

Elise: yes....I had a nap this afternoon but was interrupted by Tobey howling as he tried to burrow under the covers with me.

Paula and Amy: I am I am so glad it's over and we're all going to get back to normal here.

Serryn: hurry, Vyktor!!! i don't gots no vetty stinky....somebody wif perfume got me all stinked up. Ewwwww.

Carl: As I expected, the sweetest of cats (Tobey) greeted her with a headbutt and I missed you ALL day, Gracie!!! He would no more hiss at her ....he adores her. He's visibly glad she is home. Mike said he moped all day until she got home.

Julie: No kidding!!!! I laughed and laughed. They were all talking about how expressive her little face is. She's been a love bug since we got her home.

Marilyn: please do imbibe for me....I would be if Mike were not going to be leaving so early tomorrow but I have to be night BIC. I'm afraid one sip of an adult beverage and I'd be zonked out!

(((Marje))) Wow I could FEEL the collective sign of relief when I logged on tonight!! So glad it's a done deal!! :bighug::bighug:
---Way To Go Gracie- what a little warrior!! You tell that dental specialist what is up! --Tiger :cat::cat::cat:

Well, if you can't have a glass of wine or a margarita tonight, I hope you at least got in another good workout to get rid of the stress! Hope you have a restful evening Marje and we hope that Mike has a safe trip to the party! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
