? 2/11 Bella AMPS 265 retching / vomiting held dose @.5

Belka was AMPS of 265
Was retching last evening / last night and vomited a small amount this morning.
I had held the cerenia
Gave her 1/4 tab last night and 1/4 tab this morning.
She was uninterested in her regular food. Got about a tablespoon in her with some routisserie chicken pieces
Held the dose @ .5
Urine ketones remain negative.
Checked this morning
Not sure what’s going on
Could she have something else happening?
Please advise
 
Hi Janet, it's hard to say what could be going on. Does she get a small meal or snack through the PM. Perhaps she is experiencing some "empty stomach syndrome" Or she could be trying to work up a hairball, Or she could be having a pancreatic attack. It's all a guess right now. Does she seem to be in any pain?

With her and ketone development, it will be important that she eats so keep trying small amounts of small frequently today. And get another ketone test in today.

As far as the pain.. she just seemed nauseated. I had taken her off the cerenia because the vet told me it wasn’t for long term use.
I have a couple left... will but her back on an then switch to Pepcid.
The only difference yesterday was she ate every two hours and ate quite a bit for her.
Usually she’s every 3-4
( we got off schedule a bit and went out to lunch)
She was retching about 30 minutes after she ate last night and then ( empty stomach) middle of the night and right before/ actually during her am blood draw.
I’m wiped. Can’t sleep.. she’s in the room with me at night and I’m constantly listening for her.. worrying
She doesn’t eat at night.. can’t do it. Two other cats all on different food.
She seems better now.. is eating and not retching
I’ll see how things go and maybe increase her tomorrow am.
Too hard to do tonight and monitor
Talk about the walking dead.......
 
It looks like she may still need the cerenia. Your signature has 1/2 tab, maybe try going 1/4 tab instead of just dropping it entirely for now.

I gave her1/4 tab last night and then1/4 this morning.
Going to try my other vet ( home visits ) for a prescription.
The original vet who gave me the prescription is the one who said it was not for long term use. I have to justify everything I do when I call her.
( exhausting) she’s the one who thinks Bella needs less insulin.
I have two pills left.. enough for four more days. Maybe I can get this straightened out before I need more.
One can only hope

Jones has been on it a 1/4 daily for a year and half. We did a brief experiment of dosing every other day. I just ended up with a cat the puked every other day. Went back to daily.

No, not insane. Who wants to eat when nauseated? I have done that experiment twice, both times a it didn't work. Last time was about 3 months ago. They need what they need. I understand getting to the lowest effective dosing or off the drugs and use natural options if available however, if all else fails you use what works.
