Good morning LL! Zener is doing fine this morning. Appy is happy. He had a very brief foray onto the back porch after hesitating at the door. It's only 23 F (and you can interpret that as "gee, that's warm" (Ella)
or "OMG, that's cold" (Michelle, Marje, Deborah, ...)  ). He did a tiny bit of bird watching and is now napping on Versailles.
OT: I survived the race. I was ready to back out until about 40 mins before it started. It was snowing heavily, the curvy road up the mountain was snow packed and I was not happy about driving down in the dark after a few more hours of snow. But then it let up (for about 5 mins) and I thought about all those crazy skiers from Phoenix driving down the mountain and decided I might as well let them all leave and drive down by myself. Anne let me use her Jeep so I had 4WD. The race was a challenge. It was pretty much straight up the mountain for a little more than a mile. My fitbit said I climbed 177 flights. I followed behind someone so I could step in their tracks. I did have a pair of the Kahtoola microspikes. They worked pretty well but the snow was a little too powdery. Great skiing snow, that's for sure. The wind was at my back on the way up and I had on too many clothes so I was soaked with sweat. The downhill was interesting. This was into the wind at the top and I was wondering how long it would take to get frostbite. Once we dropped into the trees, it was fine. I did run most of the way down, even in my snow boots. I had on 2 pairs of socks and the boots were surprisingly comfortable. My time was 55 mins to the top and 1:24 overall. If anyone wants to do it next year, sign up early since they filled the 300 spots this year.
Mega healing vines to Moonie and Detective Poo is sending her best poo vines.
