Good Morning World! Welcome to our home!! Yesterday

AMPS 354

KT is not only bouncing this morning but he's slinking around trying to figure out what this bad smelly thing is - doesn't SMELL like Nuisance - smells like the vettybean! He's doing fine tho'...

Oh HAPPY HAPPY DAY! My baby Nuisance is home! It WAS urinary crystals - will have to read up on what that means. We all suspect it's our water and even more now that I talked to a neighbor that just had their cat in earlier this week with bloody urine. We're dumping all 'regular' water and going with purified/distilled until we can change to filtered rainwater. He had his catheter taken out this morning so he's still really loopy, set up the hospital cage until he wakes up fully. THANK YOU GRAMS LIZ!!! Having this big crate is just WONDERFUL!!!

Sun is shining, it's warming, flowers are blooming, birds are singing, sky is clear, all is well in our world!!! BIG YARD DANCE!!!!!

Thoughts and prayers for our sick babies, especially sweet Moonie who's been thru SO much. Also for all those digging out of this snow!

BIG HUGS! DANCE WITH US!!!!!!

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance is HOME!!

KT, come down from there. We like to see you in the blues. Yay for Nuisance! :-D :-D I'm glad the crate is helping. :-D And I'm sure the KTSS will come along shortly to get off that vetty smell! Ugh, must be kind of strong after multiple days in the hospital. Hugs to you, Lyresa

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance is HOME!!

It's great to hear Nuisance is home. I hope KT comes down from his bounce soon.

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance is HOME!!

You must be so relieved to have your baby back home - and I'm sure he's thrilled, albeit a little loopy. Crystals are scary things...I'm sure you'll be learning lots of fun new stuff now. Prayers that he continues to mend up quickly!

KT...let's break that bounce!!!

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance is HOME!!

Great news that Nuisance is home, even if he does smell like the vetty hospital! (KTSS has an app for that!!)

Rusty had struvite crystals about 2 years ago. They just went away; I don't remember doing anything special. Here's a website you might want to check out. I got the link from Tanya's CRF website:

We are certainly dancing with you today, Lyresa!

Hugs,

Ella & Rusty

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance is HOME!!

Yay, for Nuisance coming home? Do you know what type of urinary crystal? There are struvite and calcium oxylate crystals.

From Dr. Lisa's page on Urinary Tract Health:
struvite crystals are more apt to form in an alkaline urine and calcium oxylate crystals are more apt to form in an acidic urine

The best thing for preventing them in the future is canned food! The bladder needs good water flow through it to flush it out. Next, look for a low Phosphorus food, because food high in Phosphorus is usually also high in Magnesium and Calcium. Which are the major components of the the 2 types of crystals.

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance is HOME!!

I have not dealt with urinary crystals in my cats. I am just taking a course on this topic, so my knowledge is probably not as advanced as some who have had experience with diet and crystals.

I think that it is critical to understand if he was actually blocked by a urolith, or stone, or if you are dealing with just crystals at this time. Crystals will form into uroliths given time and under circumstances favorable to their formation (pH, or the degree of acidity/non-acidity is one main factor in the type of crystals that will be present). The other thing you have to know, as others have said, is what type of crystal and/or urolith is present. The most common in cats is struvite, and the second most common is calcium oxalate. If there was a struvite stone or urolith, and if it was pushed back into the bladder by a catheter, it is likely still in the bladder and may have to be dissolved. Calcium oxalate stones cannot be dissolved by diet. Cats who have "blocked" are at higher risk for blocking again in the future. Prescription diets will normally be prescribed by a vet once a cat has had an issue with crystals. I am seeing here that some have had success with using other methods. Increasing the amount of water intake is critical. You might just want to check with the vet to see if struvite stones are present in the bladder, and if so, you might want to consider a prescription dissolution diet for a period of time (2 - 4 weeks) to try to dissolve them. I'm sorry that I don't know too much more about it than that, but I am wishing him a quick recovery!

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance PRAYERS PLEASE

I'm asking for EXTRA AND LOTS AND LOTS of prayers for Nuisance - he's not doing well at all. As the day's progressed, he's in terrible pain - they gave me nothing for it and didn't even mention it. I truly feel right now that he's laying here dying and I can't do a damn thing about it but cry, rock him and pray. They gave him NO fluids while there, hardly any food - they did have some in his cage but he didn't eat...and they did nothing more than the catheter. I've syringed water in him all day, one small pee this morning but that's it. I've given him about 18cc's water and about 9cc's food. All I have is regular cat food and no place to get anything else until tomorrow. I'm being very careful that he's actually swallowing it rather than letting it just drain down his throat, have to give Snow water that way at times when I give him pill.

I don't know what else to do...there is no emergency vet and even if there was, there's no money.....

PLEASE say an extra prayer or two for us...

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance PRAYERS PLEASE

oh, Lyresa - I was all ready to say I was glad you had Nuisance home and doing well when I saw your most recent update. I wish I had words of wisdom to share with you, but all I can do is offer a prayer and say I hope he feels better soon!

Hugs -

Libby (& Hershey, too!)

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance PRAYERS PLEASE

Lyresa....sending many, many prayers for miracles your way. I can't believe they didn't send him home with some pain meds and they can reblock. I hope he isn't. Oh that poor baby but he knows he has the bestest mommy ever and your love and tender care will pull him through. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance PRAYERS PLEASE

Dont cry Lyresa, be strong!
Let Nuis have more water. Yes, he might be in pain but if there is no blockage the pain will not kill him. Is he peeing? Try blending the canned food, add in water & try syringe feed him if he refuse to eat.
My Gorgor was having persisent UTI a year ago before I switched him to a canned diet. Obviously water is the vital word but you have to make sure Nuis is not blocked. Give him something warm; electric blanket, hot water bottle to relax him. Stress & tension will make it more difficult for urination.

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance PRAYERS PLEASE

Many, many prayers for sweet Nuisance. It's been a long time, but one of my kitties had a blockage...it can take them quite a while to recover from these episodes. After being catheterized, their bladders can spasm, which no doubt is painful, but at least it's not a blockage. It took him well over a month to "normalize". Hopefully your sweet baby is in recovery, even though he's in pain. I hope they give you pain meds and better answers tomorrow....hugs to all of you....

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance PRAYERS PLEASE

Oh (((Lyresa))) I am saying prayers to St. Frances of Assisi to please help your Nuisance to come through this and feel better soon.

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance PRAYERS PLEASE

Oh Lyresa! I will keep you, KT and Nuisance in my prayers tonight and tomorrow and pray that he starts feeling better. I assume you are planning on taking him back to the vet tomorrow and DEMAND pain meds, etc. that they should have given you when you picked up Nuisance. :-x Shasta sends hisses to Nuisance and KT (her version of "feel better"). Hugs to you, Lyresa. Keep being the best mama bean and have faith.

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance PRAYERS PLEASE

Sending many prayers. I went and read the link that Ann ( and tess) posted of dr. lisa's...
the details of the dificulties...

I'm surprised he wasn't given pain meds.. after what I read there.
I hope you get better assistance tomorrow.
Big Hug!

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance PRAYERS PLEASE

sending prayers and positive energy.

sending jack and the bean stalk size vines, and tho you can't feel it now, i will feel it for you. im hopeful of a good outcome. go to vets tomorrow, get those pain meds and i jsut applied to a "care credit" card for ruben. http://www.carecredit.com/vetmed/ they approved me over the phone and was able to give me the number to use day of.
nuisance will vibe off you(easier said then done) but stay calm and visualize the type of happy dance you'll be doing when you both get through this.
ruben is sending comfort to nuisance and hopes the pain will pass soon. sending you big strong hugs. wrapping my arms around you both.
i am up if you need someone to meantally hold your hand tonight. its gonna be ok.

Re: 2/10 KT AMPS 354 Nuisance PRAYERS PLEASE

Sending lots of healing vines and easing the pain snowflakes to poor Nuisance. My Theo had fluids both time he went into the vet for crystals, and he didn't even have a blockage. We are thinking of you tonight.

THANK YOU OH THANK YOU ALL!!!! WE ARE BACK HOME AGAIN!!!

I found an emergency vet hospital fairly nearby and took him in...NO BLOCKAGE but he had NO fluid left in his body. They gave him something for pain and 250 (cc's?) of subQ fluid which absorbed as fast as they could shove it in. He was so dehydrated they couldn't have started an IV in his leg - not enough vein due to dehydration. On the way home he talked to me (read-kitty-cursed at me..) in a fairly strong voice. I'll take him back to our vet Tuesday for subQ's again - he's lost 3 1/2 pounds since Feb 1st.

We were SO SO SO scared then I was afraid my syringe feeding him would be what killed him if he was blocked - I'm not sure how I would have lived with that...not well...he was so weak and kept trying to pee but couldn't. NOW I know it was because there was nothing there.

THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!!! I think I can sleep tonight...after I get DH thru these attacks....

BIG HUGS!!

I am so glad you were able to get help for Nuisance. It's amazing what a difference fluids can make. Praying for a successful continued recovery.

MJ

just catching up . I'm so glad that you found an ER vet and he is better. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon cat_pet_icon cat_pet_icon I hope your regular vet will show you how to give fluids yourself and set you up if there are andy problems in the future. He and you should not have had to go through this.

So glad you found another Vet and pain meds and treatment. Prayers answered and more healing vines for Nuisance. Very lucky kitty to have you as his Bean, Hope you sleep well.

I am so relieved that you were able to find an ER vet...what a relief. LL prayers do it again...and they're continuing for a speedy recovery!!

Great news! Have you seen Marje's video on giving subqs? More vines for feisty Nuisance. And for you. Big hugs to you, Lyresa.

(((((Lyresa)))))
We are so relieved that you were able to get Nuisance to the ER and get him re-hydrated. Marje's video on how to give sub-Q fluids is terrific. The old link doesn't work because of the ongoing problems with the Board, but yesterday Marje posted a working link to it in Moonie's condo.

Hope that you and DH were able to get some sleep last night. Thinking of you all and keeping you all in our prayers and thoughts.

Love and Hugs,

Ella & Rusty

Know Just How You feel!! You and I can Take Sub Q lessons together!! Moonie also needs them everyday so we will just learn how to do the fluids.Hope Nuisance feel much better soon--Healing green vines & Prayers for your baby...Hugs & Love from us!

So happy that Nuisance is doing better.

We had to give Minkie subq in Jan because of persistant diarrhea - I followed Marje's video which really helped, although it didn't go quite a smoothly as it did when she demo'd
But we did get them in - that's the main thing.
