Wow... Scooter had a great AM yesterday, we had a lot of fun playing and he tore around the house attacking stuff... and then we had an awful red evening for NO reason!! Ben and I both thought something was wrong with the meter and tested multiple times... so strange..

I wish I felt like we were getting somewhere with this treatment... but... Scooters numbers aren't any different than when we started... *sigh* But we can't dose increase because he still hits greens randomly once a week... is it too early to say if a different insulin would better benefit Scooter?

I also got Scooter's blood panel results in the mail today FINALLY, view here

Hi guys .. I know you are feeling frustrated with Scooter's numbers. But you have to stop and realize, you've only been doing this for a short while .. I know you're thinking it feels like forever, but really, it's just been a short while in what might be a long dance .. You're still at a relatively low insulin amount too .. Lots of room to go up before worrying about changing insulin's (in my opinion) We danced the dance for 22 months with mocha and felt days of pure frustration, pure stress, pure exhaustion and pure excitement when things finally started clicking .. Others will probably chime in with much more knowledge then what I have to offer .. I just wanted to stop and to tell you it's ok if you don't see beautiful numbers instantly .. for some kitties it clicks right away, for others it takes time .. You're doing everything right ...

I guess I just get jealous when I see all those cats over on health who hit remission in a week or two of insulin. I'm trying to balance so many things at once right now.

Almost done with the panel results.

Panel results added to first post. Would the lack of increased white blood cells imply that Scooter's teeth aren't really contributing to the issue?

Looking at your SS my first question is to wonder if after all that exercise, if you hit some greens in the late afternoon? Many times you are seeing reds are after a green or extended blue cycle. Exercise and feeling good can lead to lower numbers. It might be advisable to leave out a small snack when this happens.

Second, it appears that those visits to pink/red are becoming shorter in duration.

I am not sure if this will come through, but check the month of Dec. in this SS and my very own comment on 1/2/11! I was so very frustrated at the time and not unlike you...ready to chuck it all in on Lantus.

You might be wondering why there are colored blocks with no numbers it is because I am a visual kind of person and as I look back on it...I missed the gradual downshift that led to the "break."

Even right now as I still dance this sugar dance, I was thinking just today...his pinks are getting shorter in duration and my paws are crossed we're going to see another shift down.

Attie has been and continues to be very difficult to regulate and we've been as high as that SS in 2010 shows 3.5u and as low as trying to calculate 0.25u and illness tripped us up at that time.

I don't think the issue has been that Scooter has been seeing green numbers. The tricky part is catching a cycle where Scooter isn't bouncing so you can increase. So, for example, you could have increased the AMPS on 1/26 or 1/27 pr 1/29 or 1/31. Depending on what today's cycle looks like and your PMPS, you might be able to increase tonight.

I know it's hard to see kitties go in remission after just a short amount of time, and ours are still trying to find the right dose .. It isn't that you are doing anything wrong though .. That's what my problem was .. kept thinking, what are they doing, that I'm NOT doing?? But that just isn't how FD is .. every cat is different .. every story will be different .. just hang in there .. and know that you are not alone in how you feel ... :YMHUG:

Re: 2/1 - Scooter - AMPS 297 - IDEXX results

Well he's probably not getting that increase today... 85 at +5

Re: 2/1 - Scooter - AMPS 297, +5 85 - IDEXX results

i'm not skilled at reading labs, but can see scooter's got some tests that are out of the normal range. what did the vet say about those?

Re: 2/1 - Scooter - AMPS 297, +5 85 - IDEXX results

The note at the bottom says they are just signs of uncontrolled DM, or hemolysis (whether in him or the sample, idk)

Re: 2/1 - Scooter - AMPS 297, +5 85, +6 68 - IDEXX results

Hemolysis means that some of the red blood cells in the sample were damaged and released their contents into the plasma; this is why Scooter's potassium looks high. It is usually due to an error by the person who draws the blood - it has nothing to do with Scooter. Just FYI

Re: 2/1 - Scooter - AMPS 297, +6 68, PMPS 205 - IDEXX result

I figured, it just didn't clarify which it was. :)

PMPS is 205... stalling for 30 mins to make sure he's going up...
