Again, skinny dipping in the night, drops to high 100's.

Will try my hand as kitty chef later. ;-)

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282

What nice numbers overnight. Always interests me to see how many cats are lower at night. We know it's not food with Lucian as you feed him at night, right? Wonder if it is reduced activity? So close to regulated numbers on some of the cycles!

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282, +3/321

He's not going to get regulated at this rate. I just found his shot laying in the kitchen. ohmygod_smile That's twice in a week, something I only did once in a year. I can't change his shot times because of classes next week. Being TID I have to keep it the way it is. I'll have to wait until 8 tonight to shoot again. I'm so pissed that I can't keep up with this.

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282

Would it help to have a schedule next to your shot area where you mark off when you shoot? I know I would have trouble remembering 3X , especially in the middle of the night. You'll get him back; he has been responding really well.

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282

Is it too late in the cycle for a drop of R?

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282,+3/321,+4/442

Not too late for R, but he was 321 @+3, which is less than yesterday at that time with PZI. Gonna test again in a minute. 2-3 hrs before shot time is about as far as I would go with R, because the PZI seems to kick in sooner than I expect.

As for a chart, if I can't remember the shot, I won't remember the chart. I can't even remember to take my own meds on time and I have a chart over the kitchen sink for that. I've done better with Lucian than myself.

I have got to get some decent sleep, I'm walking in a daze and can't function. Hopefully he'll eat the cooked Friskee's and leave me alone to sleep some. I got 2 days to get MY schedule straight before the blasted classes, that I have no desire to attend, yet Worker's Comp insists on it.

Just tested, he's at 442, so gave his drop of R to keep him down until shot time. It's not like this isn't an option, it just pisses me off that I can't keep track. I'm making the shot, he just didn't get it.

Both times it was the noon/midday shot. That's when I am the most 'fuzzy', I've slept more and can't wake up. Most of my sleep is between 5am-noon, getting up a couple times to feed. I have got get back to a normal (to me) sleep schedule. I've tried for the last 2 days to get up at 10am, it's not happening. The only way for me to reverse my sleep time, is to stay up from now till tomorrow night and go to sleep after his 8 pm shot, getting up at 4am for his shot then up for the day at 9 or so Monday morning, have to leave for class at 12:15. I see no other way to do it and this isn't the first time I've had to do something this crazy to get my sleep pattern back. Of course this also depends on Lucian eating the baked/dried food during the night. We'll know about that in a few hours.

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282 +3/321 +4/442-R

Deb,
Do you have a "routine" for the test/feed/shoot ritual?
I was thinking of the way I did things. One thing I did was had my sharps container in between the test place and Bob's food. He didn't get fed until after I disposed of the lancet and syringe, so if I forgot the shot (which fortunately I didn't do), Bob would have noticed he was missing his fuds.
The real reason I set up that system was because a couple times early on, I left the sharps laying around and found them later where Bob had relocated them. Didn't think they'd be good cat toys.

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282 +3/321 +4/442-R

I've never had a routine to speak of. Of course he was BID before also and it wasn't necessary. But what I have tried to do lately, is make the shot, take it to his test chair, THEN go get Lucian and test and as soon as the test is over, while he's still in my lap, go ahead and shoot and then feed. Unfortunately, I didn't bring the shot to the test chair this time. I had been doing it like that since I missed the last shot, in hopes of it not happening again. But the first time, the shot was on the table, next to the test chair and I still neglected to give it to him.

I can not function in my sleep! Period! No matter what I try it doesn't help. The issue is that I have gotten 2-3 hrs sleep beforehand. I can't wake up because I'm exhausted. If I only get 30 mins to an hr, it's like a power nap, I'm wide awake, sometimes for hours before I can go back to sleep. But if I get 2-3 hrs, I'm dead. The issue is mine only and I've got to try to figure out a way to work around it.

He has always woke me during the night to eat, ever since he was changed to wet food. That's fine, I can do that with my eyes closed and fall back into bed. But having to be able to actually FUNCTION is another story entirely. I quit taking my 'night time' meds over a year ago, because I couldn't get up and test him, I couldn't function. My Dr threw a fit! We had it out over that. I won.

Right now, my schedule is just really screwed up and I have to get it together by Monday. Anyone want to stay up for the next 28 hrs or so?

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282 +3/321 +4/442-R

I look at my schedule, and really I have no clue how I managed with Bob. My hours change every week, sometimes during the week. I guess that's why he rarely got shots 12 hours apart and I didn't get near enough mid-cycle tests.
For instance-
The past 4 days I had my alarm set for 4:30 am, work at 6.
The next 3 days, work by noon, so I'll sleep till 10am and probably be up till 2 or 3 am.
Then I get two days off.
Then two 9-5's.
Followed by three "up at 4:30am" days.
Then I have five days off in a row.

I rarely know what day it is, and have my watch set to show "24 hour clock" so I have some clue whether it's daytime or nighttime. Because if it's cloudy and Mr. Sun isn't out, I can't tell anymore.

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282 +3/321 +4/442-R

I always hated that 'hazey' time, like 5-6, could be am could be pm.... since I don't work, I never know what day it is. I have to check the date on my laptop to see.

You were so fortunate with Bob. o:-) Seems no matter how strict a schedule I have with Lucian, it just doesn't do it. So hoping the PZI TID will make a difference, if I can just get it done!

And the Friskee's Liver and Chicken smells like a$$ baking!

And the Friskee's Liver and Chicken smells like a$$ baking!

Honestly, when I read about "catfood baking" yesterday, all I could think was "OMG, how badly does her kitchen reek of cat food?"
I was surprised to read that the FF didn't really stink bad. But not shocked the Friskees Liver and Chicken does. I think of all the flavors, any with liver smell the worst in the can, never mind the oven.
I remember when I first brought Bob home from his DKA and the vet sold me a case of Hill's m/d (primary ingredient is liver). He ate it for almost two days. And then would just walk away crying from the bowl. (I returned it for a refund that day, the same day I first saw "Binky's List"). All I could tell Bob was "can't blame you buddy, I can't stand the smell either, and my nose isn't in it while trying to eat it!" Mullet wouldn't even eat it, and he'd eat just about anything that stood still long enough. The day I came home with a ton of FF classics was probably the best day of their lives.

And yes, I was beyond fortunate with Bob. No matter how many times I screwed up, he did okay with it. I was blessed.

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282 +3/321 +4/442-R

Here we go with ECID, Lucian will eat anything with liver in it and the only treat he would eat was freeze dried liver. He refuses chicken unless it is mixed with liver or tuna, won't eat poultry platter, Turkey and giblets will work, again it has liver. Mixed grill occasionally, it may have liver too, but says meat byproducts on the label. Won't touch Salmon on a bet! Refuses ANY fish mix with salmon in it, which is all of them. Maybe once a month he'll eat a little whitefish and tuna for 1 meal.

This is what he eats regularly:
Turkey and Giblets
Mixed Grill
Liver and Chicken
Chicken and Tuna
Other flavors he MIGHT eat 1 meal of in a month.

I bought all those flavors in FF recently and he likes the Friskee's better. Thank goodness, something went my way! Save a few $$.

Cat Cake ready to come out. After it cools and I break it up, if he eats it, I'll let ya'll know how I did it.

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282 +3/321 +4/442-R

Cat cake = major fail. Even my kibble junkie won't eat it. Because it's been so long, Lucian might.

Mistakes I made = Pressed it out too thin, thinking the thinner it was, the easier it would be to dry out. Yes, but it ends up being wafer thin, so thin it's like paper and breaking it up was a waste of time.
Kept in oven at 250 for 1.5 hrs, too long and too high, at least for that thickness.

Have another pan in the oven @225 and about 1/2 inch thick, to see if it makes a difference. Also, it's mixed grill this time, couldn't stand another liver and cluck. Of course I'm using 5.5 oz can's. If I can get it right, I'll do it with a big can, several big cans. ;-)

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282 +3/321 +4/442-R

@Sue I'm sure that is lovely, but I can't afford it. It's all I can do to get by on $1216 a month, between SS Disability and Worker's Comp. Evo puts out a Cat & Kitten Dry that is 8% carb, I'm told, can't afford that either.

If this doesn't work, I've wasted $1 in Friskee's, that I can handle.

@Carl...There was a cookbook? With cat recipes or people recipes?

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282 +3/321 +4/442-R

People recipes, but cat recipes would have been awesome too! It came as a CD. If I remember correctly, Mel (mommaofmuse) was involved in the production, and she might know if any copies are still available. The PZI group had a blast with the whole voting process, and Donna's Asher was on PZI at that time. She's a professional photographer, and her work is incredible.

Re: 2/1 Lucian MDPS 282 +3/321 +4/442-R

That's very cool, I'll have to ask Mel about it. Thanks Carl.

So the baked isn't looking good, 1.5 hrs @225 and it's still gooey on the bottom. Turned off the oven, flipped the mess over and stuck it back in. Maybe it will finish drying by the time the oven cools.

As it stands, it just looks like dried out food that fell on the floor 4 hrs ago. They won't eat that either.

I put out 3 plates, 1st batch, canned, 2nd batch. He is actually eating the 2nd batch. It was still warm, I crumbled and put fortiflora on it. We'll see what happens. Don't know if he'll eat it after it sets a while.

Okay haven't really been following close enough to know why you're baking the cat food but here's an easy recipe that I use for my kids treats.

1 (5.5oz) canned food
2 tsp catnip
fortiflora

Preheat oven to 300
line baking pan with either foil or parchment
Toss catnip & catfood in blender puree until it resembles frosting. Stick that in a plastic baggy, cut the corner off the baggy and squeeze out little droplets onto the baking pan , dust with fortiflora and pop in oven for 15 mins or until dry.

Presto Kitty Kisses

Mel and The Fur Gang

That's pretty neat Mel! :thumbup

I was trying to make 'dry food' basically. Something I can leave out at night to keep him from waking me, since sleep deprivation is about to do me in, not to mention, I have to be able to be up earlier to start those blasted classes Monday.

As an update, he actually ate half of the 2nd batch, equivalent to half a can, minus the water, of course. I'll make more and see if leaving out a big bowl will allow me to get some sleep at night. As it stands, I'll just stay up until tomorrow night and try to get back to normal (my normal).

Good News! Lucian got up a few minutes ago, went in and ate some more and then got back in his bed. Had I not been awake, I would not have known. That just might be a good sign. Unfortunately he has a tendency to eat anything new, ONCE. Hopefully it will continue.

Keeping fingers crossed.
