Re: 2/1 Garland AMPS 160

Sorry its taken me so long to get online today. So busy today, go go go all day. Had two park playdates, a neighbor's birthday party for her 3 year old, speech therapy for one of mine, a long grocery store trip and about 6 random errands. I could really use a glass of wine and a bubble bath LOL

The test results came back. Nothing really to report. Everything looked great. Ketones negative, liver values were perfect, no UTI, etc... He said there was nothing on the lab work of concern. He did mention she seemed slightly dehydrated, but the SQ fluids we gave her should fix that. So, the Dr just said to watch her and see how her appetite is. He said if she still isnt eating much in a few days, he wanted to prescribe a medication. I cant even begin to pronounce it. It started with an M? Metronzopide? I cant remember.

Garland is almost back to herself as far as personality and energy. She is still being picky about food. She does not want to eat her usual FF LC. She wants the higher carb stuff. So today I have been feeding her the "grilled" variety of FF. I hope to be able to wean her back to the LC in a few days.

violet - what a great report! if the worst is being a picky eater, well that's not so bad. i'm so glad for both of you.

hope you're getting that glass of wine and bubble bath tonight!

Do you mean metoclopramiede? It's a drug that slows gastric motility and reduces stomach acid or metronidiazole (Flagyl)? The latter is an antibiotic. If the vet is going to prescribe one of these, I'd find out why.

I was thinking mirtzapine. Its known as meowzapine on the FAF board due to its side effects. Most vets prescribe way too much. Let us know what the vet recommends and we can provide feedback. I can check with the FAF group about which one would be less likely to have side effects - this or cypro.

Hi Violet,
Good report on Garland's tests. It is great to hear that all is fine with her. Picky eaters can be worked with, I guess!!!

Enjoy your day today. Maybe it will be less hectic than yesterday!

Mirtz. is also known on the FAF board as meowzapine. I think it has more side effects than the cypro. Do you mind if I ask the FAF board for their recommendations? Also vets often prescribe way too high a starting dose. Have you been giving the pepcid? Is it helping?

Violet - did your vet blood for a spec fPLI test for pancreatitis? This is a specific test, not the basic one that some vets use that isn't accurate. Can you double check?
