Absolutely. You don't have to ask to test more:D. I'd be worried if he is hungry...he couldn't be lower and looking for food could he? You didn't give insulin. Again, I know not much.

WHAT??? No. How is this possible. You checked twice...
Is Elise on? @tiffmaxee
We don't let cats stay below 50. I would think it applies to cats without an insulin shot. There could still be some depot from the last time he got somme

I personally would feed some higher carb food just in case there is some depot. but he is on the rise. I'm always more cautious because i have less experience.

He needs to get over 50. I’m hoping the next test will get him there but we will need to keep testing.

Feed hc and syrup and test in 20 minutes.
Uhh I've given him LC, MC, HC. Honey too?
Edit: yup, I snuck a bit of honey on his tongue too.

Had to chase him down! He ran to the litter tray and now he's happily grooming himself. Will test in 5mins. I also have some 54% carb treats I can give him.

Lol. Cas don’t usually like sweet stuff. Then of course I have one that as a kitten ate part of a foil chocolate heart when she mistakenly got locked in the living room overnight. It, she ate some of the foil too! She was about 7 months old. I got pet insurance after that.

Oh my goodness hahah :D Simba used to chew through bags of white bread to get to it. I got a bread box :D

Okay. I'll test him in 20. Do you know why this could be happening? I am SO glad he hasn't got a drop of insulin since last night.

His depot must have been really full and he got extra duration out of the last injection he got is all I can think of. The food we were feeding to get him used to normal numbers sure worked. I didn’t know about the steroid. Let’s add steroid induced to the signature.

I know. That was the first thing I thought of and was kicking myself for saying yes. If he’s surfing you can try a little lc and wait an hour to test after the next one. It’s good he let you know he was low by demanding food. That’s often the only sign we get. When that happens always test to see the bg like you did. Great job.

I hope you do get to sleep sometime soon.

A normal cat BG range includes the 40's, we just don't want to have cats on insulin there because that leaves no margin for error.

I was wondering that, because he isn’t usually that vocal only two hours after his dinner! I thought he’d be flipping out by the time it was +3. Note to self: this is what to look for. Although last time he showed no symptoms... Simba keeps me guessing!

I hope so too! :D

I’ve tested my mum’s cats BG for comparison a couple of times and it’s usually been in the 40’s!

Sounds good. I think you can go to sleep after feeding as he didn’t get any insulin and he’s had carbs but if you aren’t tired one more test might give you a more restful sleep.

Yeah I’ll test him at +5 for my own peace of mind. And probably wake up at night and test again! :blackeye::blackeye::blackeye:

I know 40’s is safe but you didn’t give insulin last night which is why I felt hc was needed. It will be interesting to see the ambg.
Last night he got the skinny 1.25 dose (probs just a 1...). I do think HC was needed tonight, I got him the gourmet gold chunks in gravy and he inhaled it.

Now that the dust has settled and your condo has gotten so long I can't go back and read everything right now...but I just wanted to say good catch, Lina. If Simba is begging for food, then always check. And excellent job getting the HC into him so quickly. That 32 is low so he needed to come up. Even with a 38.
Simba, no more funny business please!!!!

Thank you for checking in on us & helping through my initial panic! :)

Simba is the absolute KING of funny business. And he loves the attention, snacks, gravy, treats and kisses that comes with it. :cat: I just wish he gave mama a break after a week of basically sleepless nights.

+5 77. I hoped he’d be a bit higher, but at least he’s safe. He is asleep across the entire bed, probably in a little food coma. I’ll set an alarm for +8 I think...

WOW I feel like I was just on a roller coaster when I stumbled across your condo!

My 2 cents after having a steroid induced diabetic as well as a true diabetic....I agree the steroid, the diet is all coming into play it seems at once and thank goodness you have great people looking out for Mr Simba who happens to be fabulous (I like them a bit fluffy too). When the pancreas wakes up if the "atmosphere" is right (diet etc) it can come back roaring. You are such a great care taker and Simba is smart to come get you too! (My Dre did that too)

I was VERY cautious when I dosed Rico and I had seen signs that his pancreas was waking up. The worst that would happen is he would get a extra 1/2 drop next shot time. Much less stressful than him dropping into the danger zone.

My steroid induced diabetic (Rico) was on insulin only about a month only because I knew right away because of Dre the signs and caught it very fast.

Sometimes the pancreas comes back slowly or even in spurts but I have a feeling you will have a gut instinct:D

Congrats and Im glad your feeling better:cat:

This has indeed been a wild ride with Simba!

It’s very reassuring to hear that steroid-induced diabetes is actually a thing, not as my vet said “steroids can raise the BG a bit”... wonderful to hear that Rico made a full recovery! :bighug:
