This wasn't my knowledge, and wasn't my experience while getting him into remission. Is this what i should be aiming for?
No, the vets are wrong. That’s just silly. What do you think knocked him out of remission? Have you restarted insulin yet? Are you home testing his blood glucose to make sure he’s safe? When your cat was in remission, what kind of numbers were you getting? Normal BG for a cat is about 50 to 120 at the most. There are a lot of people here who would like to help. This wasn't my knowledge, and wasn't my experience while getting him into remission. Is this what i should be aiming for?
Thank you for responding. It was really bizarre, both vets were insisted that for his age those numbers were the best to get. He's back on Lantus, I've got him at a fat 2iu but he's not reached a stable 120. He's still stabilizing though, at 2.5iu he dropped to 50 at his peak, which for him is 6 hours after the injection. The remission was 3 years ago or so, and i was able to keep him 50-120 the entire time and tapering down over several months. This time I've been told point blank do not aim for remission and to aim for bg between 200-250. I considered moving him back onto food he enjoys and compensating with insulin if those numbers are what I should aim for. He's maintained remission while being on a low carb diet these past years. It’s nice to see Shooter’s spreadsheet looking so good, too!My boy is 17 1/2 and although has never reached remission he’s definitely doing better than a few years ago.
