17 Feb - Freya new to this Lantus site

Freya was diagnosed diabetic 2 weeks ago. Because of where we live, we couldn’t find her insulin until 2 days after; we didn’t/couldn’t start testing her BG until almost a week after that. Her BG have been too high but we had to believe what our vet was advising us - at first, but not any more! Since reducing Freya’s insulin, her BG has reduced & seemed to stabilise, then she went hypo, then high (bounce) so we’re now reducing her dose a smidge further to see whether this is enough or whether we need to reduce it even further. 20 Feb will be our review date as I’m registered blind so the husband has to pre-load Freya’s syringes until he gets back home (he works away 3.5 days a week). Any advice/help at this point gratefully received!

Hello and welcome to the Lantus/Levemir/Biosimilars forum. Glad you found us. :bighug:

Did you double check that 50 this morning? It seems a little out of place with the 351 you got a couple hours later. Whenever you get a test number that seems out of place, it's worth trying a second test to make sure it was right.

If it's at all possible to get a later test at night, around 2-3 hours after the shot, that would be more useful on a regular basis than a +1.

Any chance you have neighbours or relatives nearby that could help you load the syringes so they aren't preloaded quite so long?

I didn’t double check the low reading (I wasn’t aware that false readings are a ‘thing’). We may be able to do tests 2+ hours after Freya’s shot over the weekend - we’ll try our best! Unfortunately, we don’t have anyone we trust close enough to help, so pre-loading the syringes & storing them in the fridge until they’re needed really is our only option. Now tgat we’ve reduced Freya’s insulin still further, we’ll obviously keep a close eye on her BG but I’m hoping that by day 3, we’ll see more improvement!

Sometimes meters will give you false lows if there isn't quite enough blood drawn up. For now, reducing was the right thing to do in case it was correct.
