I don't even know what to say. How is he at 181? I'm really worried about him right now.

If it was inaccurate dosing, which is a given at this dose, I could imagine him going too low, or just staying in his "natural" numbers, but you can see from the NS days prior to this that he was never anywhere near a 181 on his own.

Does Lantus not agree with him? I'm honestly quite concerned that his numbers are getting higher and higher in the five days we've been trying this. Any thoughts?

I'm still stuck on the idea that it's related to the effectiveness of a micro dose of Lantus, the small volume being injected because of the insulin's concentration, the deployment of part of every dose to the depot, etc. I think ProZinc, being an in and out U40 insulin, is easier to measure out in small doses and is more "bioavailable" if I can use that term

So what do you think? Is there any reason to continue with this experiment? Or should I head back to Prozinc? It may not have been getting him into remission, but at least it wasn't hurting him.

I think it's your call. Your feeling recently is that he hasn't felt well on Lantus. You're very familiar and comfortable with ProZinc. The Lantus will likely be good for months in your fridge.

I am not expert, but I would give it the full week and a curve to see what's happening. Maybe, it just needs a bit more time to kick in and build the depo to a level kitty likes. However you know best, he has a really nice looking SS.

Thank you so much, Kris and Nat. It really helps hearing what other people think about all of this!

This is how Sam feels about his current numbers:

And this is how he feels about the treat he got for letting me do the test:

I gave him a +9 snack tonight to try to bring his numbers down a bit, and it seemed to work. Still not great, but at least better than most of the cycle today. Also gave him a smidge more insulin. I'll keep a close eye on his numbers tonight to see what happens. Still open to any advice, recommendations, suggestions, or random comments that anyone would like to share. Feeling a bit lost these days...

My goodness your little devil cat is cute, Djamila!

I've always said he has a face only his mama could love since he isn't handsome in any traditional kitty way. But my goodness, I love this little wild child!

Sam is beautiful! Such cute photos. :cat:

The hike up is curious. A few questions: Have you tried holding the plunger in as you remove the syringe to make sure the insulin isn't being sucked back up into the syringe? Could he be constipated? That always hikes up Bubba's numbers. Could anything else be going on?

I see where you increased last night, good call. It might be easier to be consistent with the .25 dose than the 0.1 dose at this point and get more of a depot established. I agree with Nat and give Lantus some time. It's still early to know how Lantus is doing yet.

Yup, holding the plunger in, and he's actually been cooperating to keep it in him for a long count before even pulling the needle out. And then I've been pushing on the plunger again once it's out to see if anything was left/sucked back in. He's not constipated, but I've been wondering about a secondary issue as well. It just seems odd to have his numbers rise like this. It doesn't seem like changing insulin should cause this. I called early this morning to see if I could move up his vet appointment. He was already scheduled for his annual physical on Friday. Just got a call back while I was typing this, and the vet can see him on Thursday, which isn't much better. They will call if something opens up sooner, or I can take him to emergency. I think I'll keep an eye on him and if any other symptoms show up, I'll take him in. Right now he's still eating, peeing, pooping, playing, and purring, so it's hard to call it an emergency at this point, although it is concerning to be sure.

Sam is a cutie and such expressions! :woot::cat:. One other thing, Maury's numbers went a little higher when we switched to Lantus too. Had to put on some extra patience pants that first week, for sure :)

Thank you!!! The diarrhea is back...:(

He got over his chicken aversion and decided to eat some of Atty's food this morning. Looks like no more chicken for either kitty!

I'm thinking IBD or a food allergy is most likely on the diarrhea, however he has a vet appointment for Thursday for a full work up. They won't see us sooner unless it's an emergency. He's still doing fine as far as hydration, eating, playing, etc., so it doesn't count as an emergency. He just ate his SEB (not his favorite treat!), so hopefully that will get him back on track again. He's had regular poop the past couple of days, and then it just reemerged an hour ago, so that's what makes me think it's the chicken.
