15Feb2020/Maxi/PMPS208,246/+1(288)+2(310) /Lantus Question + Continued Concern

My mistake. I saw you say you fed 45 minutes ago. The routine is test (to make sure it’s safe to shoot), then feed, then shoot. All wishing about 10 minutes, so I assumed 45 minutes for the shot. Shooting at 9:30:tomorrow is fine.

OK, thank you!

I do usually test, feed, shoot in a tighter time frame.

Thanks again.

It looks like Maxi is staying up there, normally if I see the same number as preshot, or a good drop, it means they will drop fairly quickly. It seems to me he's done, probably starting a bounce from getting down to 215. Let's see what @Bron and Sheba (GA) thinks as well. I'm signing off soon, so if you happen to get another test before your bedtime, that's fine as all data is good data, but I can't see it being necessary.

So you don't think I need to keep testing all night?

If you are up still around +4 that might be a good test, just in case you are concerned. When I see a +2 higher than preshot, it likely means kitty will come down some, or depending on the cycle before, stay higher, but nothing in terms of crazy/need to worry.

Oh, ok, I'll try to get +4 too.

No, sorry we cross posted...if your +3 continues to stay higher, you can go to bed :) I just think in terms of what I see with +2, based on my experience, I'd call it a night, but another test like +3 if you want to be sure he's rising or staying in this higher range is just fine.

"Grab your sleep while you can."

OK, thanks.

"Further down the track you will need to have all nighters when the BGs stay low."

Ugh. But I guess I should look forward to that!

An additional frustration is that, even though I'm 1000% sure it wasn't a fur shot (I saw and felt the needle go into his skin), when I rubbed the injection site after the shot, my finger got clearly wet with insulin. I have wondered about rubbing the site because I thought I might rub the medicine out, and today I'm sure I did, as unlikely as it sounds. So, apparently he got even less than 2.25. :arghh:

Are you routinely rubbing the injection site? If so, please do not do that! Lantus forms micro crystals in the fat tissue under the skin. If you rub the site, you are breaking up the crystals and you will not get the duration you're looking for with Lantus.

Yes, I've been routinely rubbing! (following advice I read)

What else can I do wrong? Very frustrated. Scared for Maxi.

It seems that there are signs that Maxi's nadir is post +6, which might suggest that the Lantus is having duration. ??
