Good day yesterday on 12 Sept after the dose reduction to 0.5 on PM, but now she's back in higher numbers, poor thing! I'll be curious to see how long this lasts...

Typical drop of 100 points by +2. I swear, this cat! I take from this that the Lantus really kicks in with her quickly: is that right?

Have been flat out with work and cat with low dives and my interventions; will fill in the exact food info for the last three days when I can catch my breath... :-)

Does anyone else hate rationing food when they're dropping? She looks at me, so aggrieved, and I feel like such a horrible cat mom...

Since she's already in high numbers and will likely continue today, maybe I can just let her eat as much as she wants this morning? (Trying to get over my massive guilt...)

Does she have a normal amount of AM LC food?

She'll usually eat about 85 g by 2:00 pm, though she can eat more and snarf more than that down when she's diving and eat 85g by +3:30; when she's not diving, she'll graze through about 85 g (3.0 oz? typical FF can) by cutoff food time.

With my little girl, I had to learn to be tough on the food. Give her some freeze dried treats if she thinks she needs more than you think she needs.

I'll be tough. I just won't look her in the eye... Actually, I'll see if she wants to go lie in the sun in the garden.

She's not desperate for food at the moment - just was hungry a little earlier. I wish I could figure out what's up with her: she's just not a happy cat lately. Had an iffy appetite (aside when she was dropping) the past few days; maybe her Mirtazapin needs to be refreshed? Am near the end of the bottle...

I have a visit with the vet next week, so I'll get her to run every test known to cat to see where she is with her Phenobarbitone levels, her CKD (not officially diagnosed yet), and anything else a cat should have - might as well get it all done in one go.

She had an U/S a while ago to check her pancreas, and that looked fine. And I've never seen ketones in her urinalysis tests that I've done (knock on wood). Her water consumption decreases when her BG levels decrease. She drinks a fair bit - she loves her water fountain. Anyway! When I get closer to vet time I'll ask what I should get her tested for: I want to do the lot in one go.

Just curious re: the drops when starting from higher numbers: she dropped 92 points by +2, and a further 139 points by +3. When she's dropping this much from higher numbers, should I just see how low she's going to go using LC food (a 1/2 tsp every hour), or should I try to slow the drop?

I'm trying to figure out whether her dropping by these large amounts from higher numbers would cause a bounce; then again, it looks like she's doing a bounce right now anyway from the dose change on 11 Sept, I think or perhaps from something that happened in the wee hours last night while I was asleep. Any thoughts?

If she's dropped a lot by +2 but is still high-ish, you can steer with LC food. If the +2 number is nearing 68 on your AT meter, I'd step in with MC, if not HC, food. Example: my kitty's AMPS was 112 today but he was down to 45 at +2 so I carbed up his LC snack with honey. I don't use gravy foods with him because they upset his tummy.

Thanks so much, Kris - that's really helpful! I'm now resigned to the fact that Girlie is going to drop at AM+2 pretty much no matter what I do. I know with the drops to shark territory, using just the gravy is suggested, but how to just get the gravy out is beyond me! :-)

Down to 45 - now that's scary. I had a look at your post and your SS. Wow! :nailbiting:
