Morning All,
16 more sleeps til Christmas!!!!!!....and i still haven't started anything!! no shopping, no decorating...nothing!!!

hope you all have a good Thursday!!

WCR: Rocket had a weird cycle yesterday which kind of got me down a bit....he seemed his old self being the sociable and cuddly kitty that he is....

PMPS 113.4 fed but he didn't eat much
+2 122.4....fed a lil bit...though i don't understand why he went up at +2...that's never happened
+3 95.4...did not feed
+4.5 77.4 ...didn't want to eat
+6 88.2 (he ate at +5.75)
+11.........set the alarm for here only to find him EATING the midnight snack i left :sad:

now AMPS 97.2 NOT sure if there is food spike..fed again (currently eating again at +0.5)

CONCERN: i am going in for minor surgery heading out at his +4.5 (this is the last time i can check him) and i assume will be away for a few hrs....no one home to check on him...he tends to dive on me early in the cycle...anything i can do to make sure he is ok while i'm away? he eats FF chicken & liver or that Proplan (same flavour...go figure) :YMSIGH:

should i leave only HC for him while i'm away?

any ideas?

good morning guys! I wish I knew what to tell you as far as how to leave rocket alone for a few hours but I really don't .. but I know others on here will have good advice for you, hope the surgery goes well!

Hi Claudia thanks for dropping in to our condo.I see you are in the same place. I don,t think there are too many around. IMO after 5 hours probably wasn't food spike. I can't give dose help but I've been in your shoes a lot. I'm usually told to leave either HC or high MC. Hope that helps. I also feed a higher carb breffis cause we're new at this. :-D

You can always leave MC or HC out. I think a lot will depend on where his numbers are and whether there's a drop or if he's surfing. You're the best judge of how easily Rocket's numbers come up based on the carb level of food.

well that's just it...all this time i haven't fed him anything different other than his reg food....except that one day when he got the 41 i gave gravy to bring him up....whenever i feed him while in the green it's his FF chicken & liver or the Purina Proplan chicken & liver (i know it's the same flavour but for whatever reason he likes switching between brands)...and from the food chart neither is high in carb...so he maintains the greens with no influence whatsoever on the level of carbs...if that makes sense....

he ate at +11 so the amps could have been food spike i'm not sure where he was at cause when i got up to test him at +11 he was eating away the meal that was left for him as his midnight snack...i know it's still a few hrs away but with me not being here i worry....

Hi Claudia, I don't usually give dosing advice, but since you know that Rocket tends to drop early, if I were in your situation I would leave out some MC (11 or 12%). Is there a particular one that he likes? I've had luck with Merrick's Thangsgiving Day Dinner (12%). The FF elegant medleys (Florentine Turkey seems to be a universal favorite, at 11 %) might be a good choice, too.
I hope all will go well today with your minor surgery and with Rocket's numbers.

p.p.s. Just read your reply to Sienne's advice. Don't know what to tell you. Merrick's Grammy's Pot Pie (8%) was what I used to give Stu if it looked like he just needed to come up a little (or to slow a drop). He loved the flavor.

As Sienne said, it depends on where he is when you have to leave. If you leave him MC or HC, it will raise his numbers, eight? The effects will pass so that is not important. What is important is that you feel comfortable that he will be safe with the food left out. Raise his numbers with the food so that you can leave with a peaceful mind....
That AMPS is showing food too...so you will watch for a possible drop....

I think I would also leave out some MC food it will help ease your mind today and if you are having minor sx you do not need to be having to worry hope everything goes well for you today :YMHUG:

the thing that confuses me when i see other condos when their kitties are descending is that they feed them different types of food (carb wise) each and every time they test....

i don't do anything different with Rocket....when he gets into the greens he gets the same food...which i think is lc to begin with...so that means he stays in the greens with no influence from mc or hc...the only time i gave him some mc was that gravy from the whiskas pouch the day he hit 41....so this is confusing still to me how others feed different types of carbs during the cycle and i don't do anything different....

with that said

Ella: Rocket is extremely picky....i have the FF Chicken florentine but he won't eat the chunks...only the gravy ...but that's a hit and miss with him too....so if need be i will leave the whole can out for him...with his CRF he is pickier than most kitties....the merrick you guys mention...i opened a can a while back only to throw it out as he turned his nose on it...he doesn't like chunky food only pate...strange!

Pat: my folks are coming in next Tuesday (visiting over the holidays) and i have absolutely nothing done...so i figure...i will put them to work when they get here...i will recruit them to do all the decorations and maybe i can give them the list for shopping! that sounds like a plan!!! :lol: see...my procrastination will pay off in the end and i won't do a thing!! :lol: :lol: :lol: they just don't know it yet :lol: :lol: :lol:

Lisa: the mc is a combo of hc and lc, right? i still don't know how much hc to give....that will surely affect his #s, right? but they should go up not down, right?

i can't think straight! so much to do in such short time......darn i can't even have ~O) this sucks...i just remembered! :sad:

I don't feed varying levels of carb. I have LC and I have FF gravy lovers and I have Karo. Lately, I've taken to just adding a drop or two of Karo to bring the carb level of the LC up when Gabby needs a bump. (I don't think the gravy is agreeing with Gabby's tummy.)

I would probably do the same for Rocket - mix a drop or two of syrup into his usual LC food. Unless he does something dramatic before you leave, the mix of food plus syrup should give you plenty of margin for safety.

Claudia - I can't help at all with the dosing and FD advice.

Just brainstorming for CRF and appetite. Maverick won't eat chunks either. Took him nine months to eat wet food consistently and that was FD making him extremely hungry that helped turned the corner on eating wet food.

When we did the switch to wet food - we blended his food in the Magic bullet and added water. He lapped it up like water. We initially had to make it really soupy, eventually going to just food mashed with a fork and warm water (maybe low sodium chicken stock). Maybe this would be a way to tempt her to eat more.

We tried everything with Maverick to get him to eat wet food (He spent 12 years on 100% kibble prior to this - he wouldn't eat wet food). I also had to assist feed him with a syringe for months to help keep his weight from totally tanking due to the switch from the Hills ID insanely calorie and carb high kibble.

Often the best appetite stimulant is a small syringe of food and they will eat out of the bowl also.

Wishing your procedure goes smoothly and Rocket surfs in the safe greens.

Did you decide what to do? Leave some extra LC out or a little HC? Either way I am sure your heart to heart with Rocket, explaining everything will help till you get home!

OHHHH and i LOVE and fully support and endorse the idea of your parents getting stuck with, errrr i mean, the priviledge of doing ALLLL the festive work while they are here...Including taking care of the shopping list!

you see Keri...i had a plan all along so my procrastination will pay off!!!!

yeah had a heart to heart chat with Rocket and i told him i did not want any drama today....looks like he's on the way up but hard to say what he will do....will try to feed before heading out....he's been sleeping since fluid time!

just in case i'm leaving some gravy for him and his reg food...two dishes!! he can pick from that menu!

i think i might squeeze a +4.5 if i can.....

I vote with LC & karo as it will keep him going & you dont have to worry!
You are doing a superb job with Rocket & he is complying, so I think he could take the LC with karo well--Moonie is so picky she only eats the elegant medleys chicken gravy too :lol: :lol: These cats are so picky! If Moonie is low today before I leave, I will leave some MC for her..That's what works for us.

my procedure went well...got home all messed up but managed to test him at +7.5 77.4

he did NOT eat anything i left him....NOTHING!!! NOT even GRAVY...

so before my drugs wore off i proceeded to prep his regular food and fed him

tested +10 86.4 fed him a lil bit of reg food
PMPS 86.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so looks like he listened to our chat this morning...he behaved...but i totally forgot to have the same chat with him about tonight...so since he dives i will keep an eye on him so if i scream for help....please help me don't abandon me....

he is eating right now...

it is painful to sit by the computer and type so i'm sorry if i don't visit any condos today....i better get off now and report in 1 hr....

i'm happy but nailbite_smile nailbite_smile cause i pretty medicated and can't afford to fall asleep on him...DH is home to make sure he is on top of it...at least to make sure i test him....i gotta go take more drugs....i'm in pain...i have low tolerance to pain......
