Nothing to report right now....
Just didn't feel right starting my morning without a post...
Hope everyone has a good day, i will post any updates as they come..

I left strict instructions for the vet to NOT use Metacam (and now I hope they listen to my instructions) and I left a clear reminder that i do NOT want Convenia either...

Keri:

I'd plan on having some baby food around in case of extractions or a sore mouth. It also works great as a treat. You want the kind that's only meat, broth, and cornstarch.

Remember to get a test as soon as you get home so you'll be able to compare that number with PMPS. Some kitties BG drops from the effects of anesthesia.

Mowgli may also be hungry when he gets home. Don't feed in large amounts. Anesthesia slows down the GI track and if you feed too much, you end up with scarf-and-barf.

If you need pain meds, buprenex/buprenorphine (aka "bupe") is typically what is encouraged. You may need several days worth. It's either in oral liquid form or as an injection (sub-cutaneous, like Lantus). You'll probably need this only if there are extractions. If there are extractions, some vets like to give an antibiotic. This is especially the case if if there was an infection or the inflammation was particularly bad. ABs are not always needed, though.

Some cats are agitated from pain meds. If this is the case, a quiet, dimly lit room will help.

Glad the dental is being done today, Mowgli will feel so much better. Is Dr. Doug Tori's Dr. Doug? He seems awesome.

It is indeed the same Dr.Doug as Barb, she recommended him to me :smile:
I just got off the phone, Mowgli is in getting his teeth cleaned right now, and i REMINDED them NO metacam, lol
Also, they figure he will have 3-5 teeth extracted.....
Should I be cancelling my snowboard trip tomorrow :sad:
Also, if I get him home just on time (as i am at work) for his evening BG test and insulin..should I just hold off on the insulin today?
They did not give him the insulin this morning, they didn't want to give it to him before the anesthetic.
I am wondering if his HIGH BG, could have been greatly influenced by so many bad teethsies....
??????

So basically, that is all I know for now...and just wondering about insulin tonite.....

Test when you get him home and post. Everyone will help you then to figure out if you should shoot and how much.

He's going to feel soooo much better without those bad teefers!

lost both lower canines, upper still intact.
~waking up good, other teeth look lovely~
His BG this morning was 185..will find out exactly what time that was....so not the worst he has been considering he was in the stressful environment and didn't get his AMinsulin....Dr.Doug going to do another BG shortly...
He should be good to go after 3pm MST...I will be getting him around 430...Work you know...
I will be sure to appraise everyone on his STATS when I get the information upon his rescue!

no doubt Mowgli will feel so much better without those problem toothies. :-D It sounds like all went well.

I too would test and spot tonight before your shot time and ask about shooting. Sometimes too anesthesia can lower BG's.

Mowgli will feel better in a couple of days after those teeth are gone. For the next couple of days his mouth will be sore! (Poor little guy!) See my note above -- baby food may be a very good idea as far as food tonight. Alternatively, you may want to put his cat food in a blender cause I bet Mowgli isn't going to want to chew.

And yes, it's quite possible that his BG will start to come down now that those teeth are gone.

See how he's acting tonight and tomorrow AM. He may well just want to sleeeep a LOT, esp with pain meds, so you can go out and have your "me" time later.

Keri missed the dental yesterday got home late. :sad: I know you will feel great when you get Mowgli home. I couldn't believe how nervous I was too. Guess we all are when we visit the vetty :smile: Poor little guy I hope he heals quickly so you won't worry. Healing white light to your baby kitty and a hug for you. :YMHUG:

Hi Keri. I'm glad everything went well. As I was falling asleep this morning I thought I hope she remembers about the Metacam. I can just hear Doug chuckling to himself. " Those two- Barb and Keri. Before I only had one to deal with - now I've got two." Looking forward to you checking in when you get home.

Hey Mowgli. Tori here. Don't feel bad about loosing your two front toofies. I'm minus one of my top ones. It ain't so bad. My Mama just tells me to fix my lip once in a while. You're still a handsome boy. .

What dose should I give tonite?
has not eatten yet, wants to....well so far until food is infront of him maybe?
He is also to start
amoxil twice a day one tab
and
tramadol twice a day one tab

dose advice so I can go ahead and feed him?

omgoodness he looks funny without the two bottom canines! i am not laughing at him though, nope i am not!
so i gave 1.75U,
and started his meds...he ate okay, mixed up his FF in some water, added some tuna juice and a few slivers of tuna...
He was on IV while they did the surgery
the removed the two lower canines, an upper right buccal and a lower left lingual if i am reading this right?

I'm glad Mowgli is home and has those icky toofies out.

Get some early spot checks tonight in case his BGs drop as the anesthesia continues to wear off. Some cats have that effect, others don't.

no, not earlier than an hour. +2 would be good, and +1 wouldn't hurt (because if he IS dropping, then that can tell you the rate of the drop, and if he's NOT dropping, then you can breathe easier).

Hi Keri, so glad Mowgli is home! I'm sure he'll be sore for a few days, but he will be feeling so much better after that, it will be worth it!

Did he eat ok?

Thanks for all the well wishes, it is nice to have the drunkard home, lol
he ate the concoction i gave him at PMPS and I just gave him another 1/4 can...spacing it out..
he is a little tipsy but seems okay right now.. So i will do probably a +2.5 or +3 being that he ate...

I will be getting a +3 shortly

but is it common for him to be walking with his back hunched, and kinda funny on the back legs because of the pain meds and anesthetic??

Okay thanks claudia and kerri!
I read that and he doesn't appear to be exhibiting those symptoms at all...i am thinking it is pain as well...as when one of my dogs was injured he walked with his back arched although it had nothing to do with his back..
He is eatting again right now...
As for cat farts,
They MADE the term "silent but deadly" lol
Never hear it but it could knock you flat!
(didn't eat much this go round)

Keri....work kept me from checking condos today. So glad he is doing well and looks like it didn't affect his BG much at all!! He will feel so much better in the next couple of days. If you have him on ABs, you might want to give him some acidophilus to keep his good bacteria in balance.
