Yesterday's Condo

The Late Condo Queen is back on her throne. Been trying to get some candy made and only sat down in front of the PC while the caramel is melting for the turtles. One batch is already in the freezer setting up. I need more hours in the day!!

Cinco is continuing his blue surf from yesterday. Such a dear, easy-going cat. He knows Mama is stressed out of her mind and he's just cruising along, being low maintenance. :-D

Unlike some others I could mention: Harvey did not want to eat this morning. He finally had a few bites of his z/d moist, when it became clear he wasn't getting anything else. Then he had some of the dry. About ten minutes later I found a fresh puddle of cat barf in the hall. Clearly Harvey's. No wonder he didn't want to eat. I had noticed he was more subdued than usual. I cleaned it up and got out the Ondansetron, and Harvey comes trotting into the room and proceeds to spend the next ten minutes playing with the ring from a milk bottle (his very favorite toy)! Clearly, he felt much better after throwing up. I managed to catch him and gave him the Ondansetron, anyway.

Sasha only ate about 1/3 of her breakfast, and Minka less than that. I took up some z/d and they both cleaned the plates! :roll: Solid Gold Chicken is apparently not on their favorites list. Cinco likes it, but he's like Mikey - he likes everything (you will only get that one if you are as old as I am!)! :lol:

I had this brilliant idea to make a Christmas card for the folks at the UCD Oncology department with pictures of the three cats in holiday attire (they haven't met Harvey yet, and I hope they won't every do so). The cats think it is less than brilliant. I've actually already got a great shot of Minka that I used for my Christmas card last year (and may use again this year, as I don't have time to come up with a new one). I put a little collar with a Christmas bow tie on it on Cinco, and he just rolled over and went back to sleep! :roll: This could take a while.

Question: I sent an e-mail to Hill's to ask for the carbs on the z/d. They sent me the as fed for carbs only. They said it's 10.7%. I am absolutely terrible with these numbers. Is that the number I need or do I still need to get the rest of the values in as fed and put them in the calculator?

Gotta get back to the caramel. I hope everyone is having a good day and all your kitties are surfing safely.

Nice blue cycle for Cinco- good boy! cat_pet_icon You are brave to leave that carmel melting on the stove- that's exactly why I never make candy- I forget all about it and ruin it ohmygod_smile I don't know how to figure out the carbs in the Z food either, but you might shoot a PM to BJM on Health- she does that sort of math(that's above my paygrade :lol: Sending eating and healing vines to all! :YMHUG: Good luck with the Christmas cards :roll:

I too am a fan of blue surfs when I'm busy doing other things. Sorry to hear the cats are on mini fuds strikes again. :roll: The food chart on the Catinfo web site says Z/D is 34% carbs. :shock: But I've seen two other lists (including Tanya's http://www.felinecrf.org/canned_food_usa.htm that list it as 40.5% carbs. :shock: :shock:

Do you think there has been a formula change? Z/D is on Dr. Lisa's list, 28% protein, 37% fat and 34% carbs in the Metabolized Energy (ME) format that Dr. Lisa uses. I set up a SS to figure it all out. It's a long process to convert As Fed to ME. You would need to know the As Fed % moisture and the calories per 100 grams of food as well as the As Fed % Carbs. They never want to give you everything! I can get the numbers plugged into the SS if you get the other data. You might as well ask for the protein, fat, ash and fiber too as long as you are at it.

Wendy, the Tanya's sit list is in Dry Matter. You need to go a couple more steps to convert the numbers to ME that Dr. Lisa uses.

I'm glad Cinco is being a good kitty for you. Sorry about Harvey's vomit. I'm sorry the girls are being picky eaters. I hope things settle down for you soon with all the kitties and they all eat good for you.

Nice easy-going day for Cinco...I'm glad he's being such a good help to you! Sending tons of appy vines to the others...please eat and feel well, kitties - it makes MamaBean SO happy when you do!

I'm looking forward to seeing a copy of your kitty Christmas card! I bet after enduring the cone for so long this year, that little bowtie collar was nuthin' to Cinco - that's why he dozed off before the photoshoot! I know my crew would far less than thrilled if I attempted to put ANY sort of attire on them.

Dr. Lisa's list is older than Tanya's which is 2014. Helen does the computation herself and uses only dry matter analysis. Dr. Lisa does it a little differently.

Sending appy vines to your gang as well as vines to end the vomiting.

Thanks for the correction on DM Ann. It does have corn starch pretty high on the list of ingredients.

Cinco is still being my little darling. However, the picture taking isn't going any better. He really doesn't sit up that often, so it's hard to catch him doing anything but sleeping! I guess I'll just have to keep the camera by my side all evening and stay alert. He doesn't mind the collar's being on, but he gets irritated when I keep adjusting it.

Harvey was eating his z/d just fine until he got distracted by something and noticed Minka had something more interesting on her plate! :roll: He got a bite or two before I got it away from him, but now he's not interested in his z/d. :YMSIGH: Minka and Sasha both ate portions of their dinner. Looks like a plate chasing kind of evening!

Thanks for all the input on the z/d. I send another e-mail to Hill's and specifically requested the as fed values for protein, ash, fiber and fat. They were pretty quick to respond last time, so we'll see if they do it again. Meanwhile, it is off limits to Cinco!

My calendar came today! I had forgotten that I'd already ordered one and almost ordered another, but the mail lady knocked on the door just as I was about to order it! Scatterbrained me! :lol:

Is anyone else having this problem? I check the box to be notified when a reply is posted to my condo, but for the past couple of days, I haven't gotten any notifications. Weird.

Glad you got all the as Feds. You can get those or the dry matter basis for carbs, fat, protein, fiber, ash, and water. Then they get plugged into Janet's Xcel SS which is included on this page on Food FAQs.

I've not had any problems with my notifications.

I've had this problem for many, many, many months. It's been so long, I can't even remember when it started. I don't get notifications of PMs, either...no notifications at all. I've gotten used to it, but it can be a little frustrating at times when I want to keep up with someone specific.

Seems like you get a good day, then a bad day

The Christmas card sounds like it will be precious....IF you can get some cooperation from the models! I know when any of mine are especially cute, it's never when I'm anywhere near the camera, and if I find the camera, the cat disappears.

Hope the finicky and fussy felines eat better for you tonight and Cinco keeps being a very good boy (even if he doesn't want to be a model!)
