Good morning everyone. Stayed up late last night with Casanova since his numbers were getting kind of low. Please see this link for yesterday's activity. I wish I could have stayed up longer but I had to go to sleep. I haven't shot yet but guess I should stick with the 4 units?

I was just looking at Dr. Lynne's food charts and in the Sophisticat line she suggests several flavors that are high carb. What's the deal with that? I'm confused.

Good morning. I looked at your spreadsheet and it looks like you already shot. You'll be able to get some spot checks today?
Could you please post a link to Dr. Lynn's food chart? I just bought 5 cases of Sophisticat, and want to be sure I bought the right ones. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. All the ones listed are okay to feed? Then I am okay.
Please have your DH do the test at noon and call you with the result.
Hope tbp goes by quickly for you.

Good Morning. Casanova had a nice day yesterday. Get a +1 and see which direction he is heading. You can feed small meals to keep him surfing. Have a good day.

Wish +1 number would have been lower. He does eat right after getting the shot. Would that make the number go up? I fed him wet 0% carb . See you an an hour with a +2.

I would not expect the Lantus to kick in for a couple yours, so you will see a bit of a rise from food, plus the shot's not having an effect yet.
For mine, one does not show much change for a couple hrs, and the other may keep rising for 4hrs.

DH just called and said he did the test at +7 and it was 299. Wish it was lower. Any ideas why it seems that he does better after his PM shots than the AM shots?

Many cats go lower at nite so it's not a surprise to see lower in the evening.
It's also the reason why it's important to get a before-bed BG test done; you never know how low they will be going at nite.

As for better than the 299... it's alot better than a 499! So it will have to do until Casanova decides lower is better.

Just got home and Casanova's BG is 281. Gave him 4 units and will check again in an hour.

As Gayle said, kitties often go lower at night. That could be a little bounce today from the greens last night, too. You did a good job last night, nice numbers! It does look like he might be planning to repeat the performance tonight... :mrgreen:

For foods, it's good to stay away from 'grilled' varieties and also the 'with gravy' ones. Go for the pates.
Take a look over the foods on Binky's list and stick with the foods under the 10% carbs. I know some people like to go lower - they may have kitties who are more carb sensitive too.
I don't know which are decent for IBD, so I can't say much in that area or other special needs when it comes to diet.

Be sure to keep a few cans of those HC flavors on hand for any times that Casanova decides to take a dip into the low numbers!

I know it will be helpful to see a more complete curve-which I will do on my days off, but with the numbers Casanova is showing what does anyone think about my current dosage of 4 units? Does it look like that is about right or will I need to go up or down?

I don't know what you should do with dosing, but it sure looks like Casanova spends his nites in lower numbers and maybe bounces up in the morns.

I can't do any curves during the week either so mine have to wait till the weekends - whenever you have the time to do a curve is fine.

I wonder if you can try small meals or bits of food early in the pm cycle to see if you can slow down his dropping numbers.

Right after I test I give him his shot and his food. I leave it out and he does eat periodically . At this point he's eaten about 1/3 of a 5 oz. can of 1% carb wet food.

for right now I think the dose looks good. I think the higher AM numbers are probably just mini-bounces - he might be bouncing off of the fast drops in the evening. It seems like it would be worthwhile to give him a couple more cycles to settle into this dose and see what happens before making any dose changes (unless, of course, he drops too low).
