Well, Mr Duncan seems very happy and is looking great. Drinking and peeing normal amounts too. Numbers are still high though...grrrr Frustrating after that spell of blue the other day. Oh well, see what happens today.

Good vines to all you other kitties and kittie mommas and daddies.

Re: 12/8 Duncan AMPS 340,

I'm going to keep nagging you about giving dry food over night. Aside from it being dry food (and have you seen Dr. Lisa's site on feline nutrition?), Duncan may be inflating his AMPS by eating 2 hours prior to shot time. While you don't have that many days on insulin on your SS, I am wondering whether your PM numbers are routinely higher than your AM numbers.

Had you thought about a timed feeder for overnight feeding?

Re: 12/8 Duncan AMPS 340,

Sara,

One way to serve canned food overnight is to freeze it in portion sizes. It stays fresh and thaws at a good feeding rate. Of course Weezer doesn’t always wait for it to completely thaw, so she gets some of the crunch factor without the carbs in dry food.

Re: 12/8 Duncan AMPS 340,

Good morning!
I know the dry could be messing things up. It is LC now at least. I do have to do it or there will be fur flying over night. They fight over wet if we are asleep, and they cry if there isn't anything in the dish. I have heard the stats, and read the articles. It is definitely something I will talk with my vet about. But for this house hold apart from locking someone up (our cats sleep with us all night so this would be a major sacrifice for either my husband or myself) I don't see how we can get Duncan 100% wet all day and all night.

So, I need to table this discussion. I'm doing everything I can right now. I do appreciate the concern, and I will definitely keep thinking of a way to do it that will work for us.

Re: 12/8 Duncan AMPS 340,

A lot of the feeding may depend on what time you go to sleep and where that is in relation to Duncan's shot schedule. If the food is out after Duncan's nadir, that may be a factor for you to think about. Feeding after nadir means that there's less insulin available to offset the effect of the food. Is it feasible to not leave food out overnight? Could you gradually reduce the amount that's left out and work toward eliminating it?

I feed several meals early in the cycle. I do that because Gabby likes to dive early and has an early nadir. However, the same principle of dividing up your cats' total food (based on calories) for the day and feeding when you're around and awake may work. My civvie, Gizmo, seems to have an alarm clock in his stomach and comes to get me and let me know it's food time. They don't get fed after +4 (well, sometimes they get a snack). It's just a thought for you to consider.

Dunc did not go very low today, and when I gave the PM shot I could smell the Lantus on my fingers when I rubbed it in and thought I could feel the tiniest bit of moisture... So, not the greatest day, and then a fur shot of some kind. Probably not the whole shot, but who knows. It's such a small amount.

Taking him in to the vet tomorrow or Monday to see about his dosage and my techniques etc... I was going to go tomorrow because with this weekend the schedule is going to be off and I wanted to get him in before he gets all screwed up. But with the fur shot he's probably already going to be screwed up. :(

Oh well, we'll see. I will post a +4 at 1am.

Also - gave the EVO for over night for everyone and put some water on it. It was the only creative solution I could think of at the moment, so low carb food + water is our way of possibly getting more wet food into their diets. Unless of course the completely refuse to eat it...(sigh)
