Very nice starte for Trix! I just need her to surf it out now, because I have to head to work right after +4.
Just talked to the doc about Trixie's and Mario's BW. All looks great with Trix.
Mario...bunch of stuff, of course. We need to double his tapazole, which doesn't surprise me - I've been suspcious that his thyroid wasn't well regulated again. I apologize because I don't have the labs in front of me, and I don't remember all the numbers she tossed my way, and my head is swimming at the moment.
He has two liver enzymes that are elevated now, so we'll start doubling the denosyl, too. He has very high white blood cells (two kinds, can't remember which), which she does NOT think is related to his dental disease. She thinks they indicate some sort of inflammation or infection in his gut. Of course there are several routes we can go. First option is to recheck his CBC when he's done with his clindamyacin, which we'll do. But, of course, the clindamaycin isn't the greatest for intestinal sorts of infections, if that's what's going on. If he still shows high, we can do another round of ABs geared more towards gut-oriented infections. She's interested in doing either an x-ray or an ultrasound to give us the best idea of what's going on...she's concered about it being either an infection or cancer.
So, of course, this means he needs to go back for a CBC check when he's done with his current ABs, back again 2 weeks later for a T4 check, and back again for another check if he does need another round of ABs.
This is really surreal to me, because he is the happiest and seemingly healthiest he as been all year...I was really struggling with getting him to eat enough back in the summer, and he wasn't interested in being social at all. He does not have any symptoms or signs of any sort of illness. He's eating well, he's using the LB fine, no vomitting, he's social and friendly and outgoing and playful. So, of course now he's got several more rounds of vet stuff to go through. My gut is telling me to take the least stressful route for him, so I'm pretty sure we won't be doing the ultrasound unless I really, really feel it's necessary. When my vet does US, he would have to be there at 8:00am, and hang out in a cage indefinitely. The tech doesn't arrive on site until anywhere between 12:00pm and 5:00pm. I'm really afraid of what that will do to him. I don't want him to be sick, but I don't want to mess with his QOL by subjecting him to repeated stress, either. This sucks.
ETA: She did mention that the liver values could be related to the unregulated thyroid, or it could be primary liver disease. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this info.
Gotta get ready for work....have a great day, everyone!
