Yesterday's Pretty Blue Surf

Thanks to Elise, Wendy, Amy and Ann for stopping by our condo last night/this morning. I was up to my eyebrows in melted chocolate and never got the chance to respond.

No PJ party for us, which is okay. I wouldn't have minded if he had dipped, but that lovely low blue surf was so nice, too. Looks like he's headed for another today. :-D

Thanks for the info on the Pepcid injectable, Elise. I will look into it.

Wendy, Wine Away is a wonderful product if you like to drink red wine and are clumsy, as I am. They sell it at all the wineries here in CA, but you can get it on Amazon, too. Works great! I even have a small bottle I take with me on our wine tasting weekend.

Amy, I'm interested in trying your method for making bark. I make all mine the same, whether it's with crushed candy canes or whole almonds. I hate the spreading part, because it's so hard to get it thin enough and get the nuts evenly distributed. I might just try one batch using your method! Thanks.

Ann, I printed the recipe for Aplets. I don't have time to try a new candy this year, but I will definitely work it in at some point. Fall would be a good time to make them here, with all the fresh apple juice and cider available.

I have some exciting news: the IM coordinator from UCD called this morning, to set up my appointment with the internist. She wanted to make it with the one that Dr. Davis consulted with (the one that wants me to reduce to .75, hold it for two weeks and do a curve  ). I asked if Dr. Nelson sees patients. She said that he does, but he is cutting back to concentrate more on his research. She checked and found that he had an appointment available for January 5th, so we took it! I'm so excited to get to talk to a vet that has studied DM so thoroughly. I'm nervous, too, about sounding like an idiot. I think I need to read more of his papers before then.

Slightly less exciting (but still good) news: Harvey at all his breakfast this morning - 100% z/d! He was still hungry an hour or so later, so I gave him another serving, and he ate that, too! I am cautiously declaring victory. It appears our food trial has begun. Wish us luck. Pilling last night went much more smoothly. The cat sack was still necessary, but no blood was shed (his or mine).

Minka did not want to eat at first. I chased her around with the plate and eventually got her to eat her breakfast. I just checked and the plate is clean. :-D Sasha ate the first half of hers on it's own, then finished the rest with an assist from Hypo treats. It's nice to have them all eating without having to resort to the Mirtz. Minka's next chemo is Wednesday.

No response from Dr. Davis yet about the prescription. Hopefully, I can pick it (the written script) up on Wednesday. I'll have to call around in the meantime to find out who has the best price on the pens. Does anyone know if Costco or Sam's Club carries them?

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :YMHUG: Prayers continue for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, Lisa's DF and Elise's DM.

Great that you got in to see the Vet you would like to be with! Yes, Costco carries the pens. Have you tried GoodRx.com? Put in your zip code and the Rx and they tell you what it costs a pharmacies in your area.

Pretty blues today, maybe he's thinking about a lagoon visit later? Fantastic news that you are getting to see Dr. Nelson. I think I would have a million questions if I got to see someone with his background. Sometimes just asking the right questions makes you look smart too. ;-)

I love hearing that the crew is eating well at your house. Speaking of eating, I've been drooling in your condos. I usually make a fruit and nut bark (almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, cranberries, candied orange, dried cherries/blueberries) and I guess I'd better get cracking on getting the ingredients. Ann's Aplets recipe looks good too.

Sounds like a pretty good day...very exciting about the appointment with Dr Nelson!! Now, if they would just fork over a normal script for a normal container of insulin! Have a great evening, Tricia!

What a beautiful blue cycle for Mr. Cinco, :-D and a great overall report for your crew! Great news that you will be seeing the vet you wanted to see- I hope he is everything you are hoping for! I also hope you will be able to get a script for the Solostar pens - Can't your vet just call in the prescription to the pharmacy you choose? That's what our vet does so I just have to go to the pharmacy and pick it up. Sending continuing appetite and healing vines to all of you!

I too have been in awe of your candy making skills (and the fact that you are on a timeline to finish it, that stresses me out just thinking about it! ) I like to cook and bake but candy making is not my forte - I can burn and ruin perfectly god chocolate way too easily! ohmygod_smile

Re: 12/8 Cinco AMPS 166 +3.5 112 +6 106

Nice day for Cinco!! And it gave you time to make candy.

I also am drooling about your candy discussions. I'm still on the "no sweets" plan and hope I can make it through Christmas. My best friend makes this candy we just call "crack" because it's so addictive.

I sent you a PM about the lab sheets. :-D

Very nice blue surf Cinco!

It's so wonderful to read your condo and hear that everyone is eating well Tricia! With everything else you're dealing with, it's really great to have at least one thing going good!

Hopefully it will continue and soon you'll be able to put all this craziness behind you. Nobody deserves that more than you do

Keep up the good behavior Cinco! China's being a good girl too..and it sure makes the nights easier on us beans!

Thanks for visiting, Ann, Wendy, Carla, Marilyn, Amy, Ruth, Marje and Chris.

Didn't get a chance to update till now. My good day kinda when to you know where in a handbasket tonight. After we got home from bowling I gave everyone a snack and tested Cinco. Harvey did not want to eat the z/d. Minka did not want her food. Cinco ate most, but not all of his snack. Sasha needed some Hypo treat garnish and still left about 1/3 of her snack. :YMSIGH: Then came the fluids. Minka was on the sofa with Mark, very comfy and purring. On the first try, the needle went in too far and out the other side. :o Second try, I thought I got it in and started the flow - nope, too far! :o :o Third try seemed to be the charm, until half way through when she moved and the needle came out! :o :o :o So now I don't know how much is in her. She had a pouch, so I called it enough. She was so damp from the spillage that I don't know if some leaked out afterwards. It's just so hard with all that thick, long hair. I think we need to put her on a flat surface instead of the couch - the position she's in makes it hard to get enough skin to tent, and to keep the needle at the proper alignment. Now we're at the bottom of the bag and it's hard to be sure how much is left. If I have less than a 100ml in one bag, and even less in the other, is there any reason I can't use the contents of the first and then switch to the second to finish? I can use the same needle, right? I was so stressed when we were done that I had to have some protein - two big spoonfuls of peanut butter and some milk. I'm still a little shaky. Minka, by the way, took it all in stride! She's such a darling.

Ann, I forgot about goodrx.com. Thanks. I'll use it. I had it bookmarked, but I can't find it so I'll have to mark it again from your link.

Marje, thanks for the help with the lab sheets.

Chris, I'm glad Cinco and China are being good - they must have made a pact to try to help their poor beans out. Either that, or they are trying to lull us into a false sense of security!

Quite frankly I'd have gone for another glass of wine last night. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: As long as the first bag hasn't been sitting around too long you should be able to use both and I would think the same needle and line would be fine too. It's not like the needle will get contamination the minute or two it takes to change over. And it shouldn't be any duller than if you have to try a couple of time to get it in right.

I finally heard from my friend, my trees are here! No warning that they were shipped and on the way. I'm driving up as far as Berkley on Friday, doing some shopping on the way (IKEA here I come!) I also hope to have time to stop at Merritt Park to go to the the bonsai collection. Sooooo, are you free for lunch on Saturday?
