Vetty visit yesterday

Our mighty Z is off for the vetty to have his dental procedure. Probably two teeth will be removed, time will tell what else. The teeth issue is the likely culprit with his latest appy issues. We sure didn't want to have another dental so soon (last one was in March), and neither did our fabulous vet, but resorptive lesions were happening and she didn't hesitate to move quickly. The change in the morning routine was a little puzzling to our guy, but he was a trooper as usual.

THANK YOU for all the visits, encouragement and support yesterday. It helps us more than we can describe. We are worried of course, but accept this is necessary for his quality of life and we are all about that. Zener told us "whatever happens, it will be okay", so that is our mantra for the day.

We will post updates later. Hoping we can bring him home by 5 pm MST. Thank you again for the thoughts, prayers and vines for our special guy, we can never get enough of those! :YMHUG:

About a half hour ago, we got an email with a picture that Zener is next so he should be in the procedure now. I just sat down at my desk and there was a Zener whisker on some papers, right in front of my keyboard. It wasn't there earlier. I hope this is a good sign that he will be fine.

Zener is done with the dental! They did at least 4 extractions. He had resorptive lesions and some abscesses. Poor guy, no wonder he didn't want to eat. He is going to be on liquid clindamyacin. Does that usually have sugar it in? We are checking with the vet to be sure. Thank you for all of your good wishes! :-D :-D :-D Beans are very relieved.

Glad all is over for Zener. I'm sure that will make a big difference in his appetite after he has recovered from the surgery. Nothing worse than a toothache.

Latest tooth tally, he lost eight teeth, so only has canines (so he still has a pretty smile, our vet said) and the itty bitty ones in front. The tooth fairy will need to bring a helper along for all the cash she is bringing our guy. ;-)

We pick him up in 90 minutes, not that we are counting. :roll:

Well...look at the positives...no need for those expensive braces :lol:

I can imagine he didn't want to eat much considering how much his teeth had to hurt.

I'm sure he'll be happy to be home again with his bean :mrgreen:

Hi Liz and Anne, We are relieved that all went well. His mouth will be sore for a while, but after that he'll feel great.

There's no way to know if there's sugar in the clindamycin. The vet should know what the ingredients are.

i'm so glad our toofless boy is through the worst of it. give a probiotic of some kind with the clindamycin - punkin had awful diarrhea from it. fortiflora, yogurt, people probiotic, whatever it takes to work. i'd give it from the beginning.

So glad it is over and Mr. Z will start his recovery! Cleo was on unflavored, liquid clindamycin after her dental. Her vet said no sugar was in it. It was very bitter, but it did not effect her appy. It did give her pudding poo even with the FortiFlora. Hope Zener is home, sweet home :-D

We're home, with only 5 teeth left. We got the unflavored clindamycin and bupe. Will add fortiflora too. More to follow, gotta get the big guy settled in. Beans would also like to be stoned on the Bupe. ;-)

What a day for Zener and his mamabeans.
I'm glad all went well ~ we're sending many healing vines to Z.

Beans have "adult" beverages. Or, if you want to share, you could always make catnip tea and share with Zener but I suspect the effect on the two of you just wouldn't be the same as it is with the kitties.

Paws crossed for fast healing. I remember he had puddin poo after his last dental so hopefully you can minimize that this time.

ETA: TGIF - time for adult beverages as Sienne suggests. ;-)

Oh Zener will feel so much better.... Those resorptive lesions are awful. And how wonderful that he got to keep his fangs.
There can be such a big psychological adjustment to losing those.
Zener gets to keep his mojo and feel better.... that is as soon as he recovers.

Healing vines that he feel better quickly and appy vines so he can eat.

Phew...I am so glad Z is home, despite the tooth tally. He deserves a huge visit from the tooth fairy tonight! I bet if you're real nice to him, he'd be happy to share his bupe with you ;-) :lol: !

In all seriousness, many prayers for a very speedy recovery!!

I'm glad to hear today went well! Ouchie on the 8 teefies Zener, I hope the bupe is having you feeling no pain and your appy improves, sending you fast recovery vines. It's hard to be a bean too for these times, so I hope you are both having some of the adult beverages Sienne mentioned ;-) :YMHUG:

Oh my, we are overwhelmed with all the vines, prayers, thoughts, smiles and laughs from you all! The power of all this community has helped us and our guy immensely! We are so grateful. I am sorry to not have time to reply to each one of you personally, but please know how much we appreciate all the visits and support.

Zener is delighted the KTSS has arrived and they are adding an additional service tonight, helping him walk without falling over. His cerebellar hypoplasia is very obvious after being confined all day at the vetty and his back end is getting ahead of his front end more that usual. This should pass. I suspect being stoned on bupe is adding to his already suspect coordination. ;-) He is currently resting comfortably under a fuzzy blanket on the floor napping with his MamaLizBean, who has a stinkin' cold. :sad:

He is drinking, eating and peeing! We are trying to give him small bits of food every hour to make sure he will keep it down. He would eat more if we would give it to him! We shot 0.75u tonight, just in case he wouldn't eat and if he did, we were advised to give him about 1/3 of his usual amount of food.

He had gradually gone up in dose from a f1.0u to 1.5u over the past 5-6 weeks. We just couldn't get his numbers back down and now we have a likely explanation, other than he's a cat! He hadn't been higher than 1.25u this entire year, but we just didn't put together that his teeth could be so bad and likely affecting his numbers. His last dental had been in March this year, and in September, the vet thought he was showing mild dental disease signs, despite our toothbrushing efforts. Things sure went south in a hurry! Guess with only 5 teeth left, we won't have to worry as much anymore.

As advised, we were given the unflavored clindamycin. Our vet prescribes the unflavored kind in almost all cases, unless beans ask for a flavored one. We have the remainder of Gus's bupe on hand, so Marje's Gus the Gentleman Cat is still giving a helping paw to a kitty in need. :YMHUG:

Zener is delighted with the black leopard photo and this is exactly how he sees himself all the time! At least he still has all his awesome front toofies!

OH Zener!!!! You should get some new headshots now that you're flashing a new grill! :-D I know! You should have requested some diamond caps to add a little bling to your pearly whites! I found the purrfect set of caps. :lol: Sending heal fast vines for Zener and lower stress level vines for beans!!! Shasta sends her love and she wanted me to remind you to brush and floss every day!

Gus would be happy to know his bupe is helping a kitty in need. And Tobey braved the cold and icy weather in Flag to hook up with the KTSS Krewe. I tucked that bottle of Fireball in with all his massage equipment and cimmamum goodies so hope you found it so you all don't have to take a nip of the bupe :lol:

I hope he is able to rest tonight. Poor Zener....that's a lot of dental work but I'm glad he's eating.
