We narrowly avoided the sharks yesterday evening. I'll be out much of the afternoon so I'm praying to the cat gods that Ruby decides to eat a bit more today and doesn't drop too low.

Sending healing thoughts to all of the sick kitties and hugs to you beans who love them so! Have a lovely Sunday everyone. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Looks like yesterday was stressful with Ruby not eating and getting so low. I hope she has more appetite today so you aren't worrying the whole time you're out. Have a great Sunday Katherine :bighug:

+3 = 61. She's dropping like a rock and won't eat what I've given her since her shot this morning, even the nice MC food I got her. Fed her a sliver of mirtazapine which will do the trick soon I hope.

UPDATE: Ate some Weruva Mack, Jack and Sam (18.2% Carb). I don't like to feed her fish, but it was a last resort. :arghh: Getting +4 shortly.

+1= 126, flat from her PMPS of 127. It's going to be another fun night! Hopefully the slightly higher carb food I'm feeding her now will help with the nose dive.

Ruby is eating better today thanks to the mirtazapine, but I am very concerned about her appetite. Given that we've got her BG under control, I don't understand why she is still avoiding food as often as she is. I'm calling the vet tomorrow about it, but if her SDMA is indeed correct then perhaps her kidneys are failing? Hate to go to the worst case scenario but I'm having trouble figuring this out as the vet seemed to think she was in pretty good health. Also, she's eating Weruva since yesterday, so perhaps it was the FF or the pumpkin I was putting in it that wasn't agreeing? We shall see...

Do you have an idea how many calories she's getting per day? Are you weighing her periodically to see what her weight is doing? If she's in nicer numbers, she won't need as many calories as when she was in higher numbers.

It was easy to keep track of when I was feeding her the FF Turkey. It's 96 calories per can according to Dr. Pierson's list and some days she wouldn't eat more than 1 ½ cans. According to this calorie calculator, https://www.petnutritionalliance.org/cat.php , an 11 lb cat needs 234 calories, so 1.5 cans is not enough. I did weigh her about two weeks ago and she's lost about 2 ounces since her last vet visit at the beginning of November, so I guess that's not terrible. The most frustrating thing is getting her to eat when she's in low numbers, but that's no walk in the park for most of us here. I was so traumatized by her DKA that I am super sensitive to her eating habits now I suppose.

My 14.5 lb cat ate around 200 calories and it kept her weight where I wanted it to be. You also have to take into consideration age and activity. Fortunately I never had a problem getting her to eat, until she got a lot sicker.

Thank you, Wendy. I'll weigh her more and stop freaking out. :p I've been trying to serve her smaller meals so that she stays a little hungry in case she goes low, but sometimes I get the feeling that the more I want her to do something the less inclined she is to comply. :banghead: So I will try to chill out.
