Ravan goes to the Vet to get his Blood Pressure checked today. I've had it done a dozen times by 4 different Techs & no one seems to be able to get an accurate reading! Last test was done with Doppler & the first reading was 280!! Average came to near 200!! It should be 140.

He's been on meds for high blood pressure for months & I'm concerned that if his BP is still high it might be causing the seizures. Can also cause blindness!

Very few people request a blood pressure test on their animals,so no one is getting much experience in using the Doppler my vet just purchased.

Wish there was an accurate way for me to test at home. I read the machines they sell on the internet are not accurate. I'm going to ask if one of the girls will come to the house to test him.

The vet (tech) would take 3-4 readings and then take the average of all of them. Gizmo's first reading was almost always high until his BP was controlled with the meds. Then it was mostly normal readings.

Since they charge for the BP readings I would request that they do it multiple times and on different legs. Gizmo did best when they were testing on one of his back legs.

The doppler seemed more accurate (consistent numbers) than the cuff.

I have also read they can test on the tail, but no experience with that.

Hope Raven's BP is down and the meds are working for him.

Yes, they all take multiple readings & average them out. I just got back & I'm still confused! The tech used the doppler & the first reading was 280 again. Every reading was over 200. Ravan was VERY calm . I left him in the carrier & was petting him & he was purring the whole time.

I told the tech to try using the "old" Pet Map machine & she did & the readings were almost too low! I asked her to do his front arm first & the average was 128 Then did his tail & average was 138

Why would the new ,Expensive Doppler be so high? Last time they checked with the Doppler it was over 200 also. Now I still don't really know which readings are correct. I suggested to the Tech they call the company & try to figure out what's wrong. Maybe the cuff is not working properly?
Tech told me no one has the BP done except me. She said it was rare that anyone asked for it to be checked.

The Doppler uses a cuff. Both machines do.

Ravan's Glucose went from 93 to 223 at +4 I checked him before I left for the vet. He was sleeping all morning & very calm. I sure wish I could figure out what makes it go so high sometimes. :arghh::arghh::arghh:

Maybe the vet visit made him more nervous than he let on so his BG's went up? Getting a vet tech to check Ravan's BP at home while he's relaxed would be the best. I hope they can arrange that.
Could the vet visit have caused his BP to go up also?
