Sorry, wasn't sure if we are still supposed to do the whole amps thing in the subject line or not.
I upped Josies dose 3 rounds ago and she had a good number this morning, comprabley. Wish us luck!

What you do in the subject line, I think, is for the time being up to you. I know how useful the subject line is on TR Lantus, a highly trafficked forum. Hopefully, we can take that as it goes, but if it becomes an issue, I hope we can collectively agree on rules that aren't overwhelming. That is the point of this forum. Not to be outlaws of the wild West, but to find a way successfully treat diabetic cats without unnecessary rigor. It's something we have to work into.

From what I see, you and Josie are on a good path with her FD journey.

It's a little hard to tell because you used the Alpha-Trak at the beginning. You also were dose-hopping at the beginning. But you are now on a flat and straight path, the way the Lantus TR protocol calls for. You are seeing occasional blue numbers. I think you will see more as Josie settles into Lantus and you continue her treatment.

I am looking forward to following Josie on her journey.

I can't really help, but I just wanted to say that I'm so happy to see another cat with numbers like Celle's (well, maybe better numbers, but the general pattern, or lack thereof, seems similar). We're also slowly and methodically increasing the dose. Good luck. Be sure to post when you get things figured out. I'd love to see that.
 
Yeah, Josies numbers are sort of all over the place. It is really frustrating and hard for me to understand, because she has been at the same dose more than once and had totally diffferent numbers while on it. I guess I sitll just dont get the whole bouncing process.

Good luck! I hope this new dose gives you a nice across the board number span!
How is she "whole cat" wise? Is she feeling pretty good? See anything that concerns you? Crankiness, litterbox problems, playing and purring?
And when your sig line says Evo Grain free.. do you mean dry or wet?
 
She is on the dry EVO.
she is doing pretty good. she poops outside the litterbox from time to time.
she has hind leg neuropathy, and is on b12, but it isnt getting any better yet.
she still purrs and follows her brother around happy as can be.
she even comes "running" when it is shot time, as she wants her food!
 
Will Josie not eat wet food? Just wondering.
Are you giving Josie B12 shots or the pills in food?
Where are you in Ontario? I'm asking as I'm in Toronto.
 
Josie is at 239 for her pmps.

We are in Ottawa.

I dont want to do wet food, for several reasons, including the price, inconvienience, smell, and that there are two other cats in the household as well.

I crush the b12 pills up and put it in her food.

Please read Dr Pierson's site Cat Info for some thoughts on feline nutrition. The cost of canned food is so much less than the costs of treating renal disease, diabetes, obesity, kidney or bladder stones, or urethral blockage. And if you don't warm up the food, it isn't as smelly, plus putting it away from any vents or refrigerator exhaust helps keep the scent from traveling around as much. I switched all of mine to Sophisticat canned Turkey and Giblets dinner and the 2 obese cats each lost weight down to a healthy level. After living with and treating cats that had renal disease, I can tell you it is heart-breaking to watch them waste away slowly; if I'd known that a canned diet might've prevented that, I'd've done it.

If I may use Josie's SS as a case study, would you or someone else explain to me the reason for Josie's dose increases? What do other people see in her numbers that I cannot? Is there a trend? I'm just curious as to when and why one determines a dose change is warranted.
 
I will not be switching to wet food. I do not believe it is the only way to care well for a cat.

We do SLGS. So if at a dose she is still high, and not bouncing or has cleared a bounce, people recommend I raise her dose, 0.25 or 0.50 units at a time, til she hopefully gets at a dose that brings her down to steady low numbers.
I dont understand how it all works myself that well. I rely on advice from others to try my best.
