Yikes! That's a nasty pink, Checkbook! I gotta go look up the Friskies he ate this morning, and yesterday.
I assumed because it was a pate, it was okay...uh oh.
it was too good to expect he would like one of the cheaper foods.....or anything, for that matter. *big sigh*.

Thank you, for the nice words about Tux yesterday. Dr Dave said it would be just a couple of days on Baytril, and those nasty bacteria would be dying off like crazy. :-D
Oh yeah, Tux won't try Pill Pockets. grr_red

Re: 12/6 Checkers amps 303 +3/376

Hoping that Tux makes a full and speedy recovery. I haven't ever tried those Pill Pockets on my civvies before. I typically just scruff the kitters, pry the mouth open with the hand that holds the pill, and insert pill as far down as possible without hurting kitters. I expect a few scrapes from those sharpies in their mouths, though. That's what the Neosporin's for.

Hoping that Checkers' #s start coming down for you very soon. I'm guessing that's a food spike, and a mighty fine jump of one, too. Have a good day. :-D

Re: 12/6 Checkers amps 303 +3/376

ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile I've been feeding Checkers HC!! No wonder he liked it.

It's not on the new list, but the ingredients tell it all. Rice and cornstarch, among other 'stuff'.!
It's Turkey & Chicken w/cheese Tasty Treasures.
All I noticed when I bought it, was Pate. Oy!

Well, now I have permission to go to Walmart to return a defective TV.

Thanks Angela. I wanted to avoid shoving my finger halfway down Tux's throat, but he doesn't have any favorite treats to hide the pill in. It's gonna be a long two weeks.

Re: 12/6 Checkers amps 303 +3/376

Oh my!!! That'll spike Checkers' #s very well. I hope that you'll find a food that he'll like, and will help to get his #s back down where they should be.

I hate pilling a cat, but I've done it, a few times. A couple of times with Blackie's on, (Blackie) Jr. Mint for his UTI, once or twice with our outdoor kitty, Shadow for worms, and several times for our late Precious girl for a health problem that we could never figure out what, and she later crossed over in '04 after 5 weeks of trying to battle her ailment. I tried pilling our late German Shepherd, too, but that didn't pan out very well as she nearly took my fingers off. Never did that again. I'd rather pill a cat than a dog anyway. Right now, I'm pilling my horse, but I'm crushing her meds into a fine powder, and then adding it to her moistened food, and mixing well. She's on pain meds (Previcox 227mg) for her ringbone issue. I can never fix that, but can at least make her feel comfortable, or try to.

Morning Barb ~O) ~O)
OH rats on the hc numbers. I so hope you find one Checkers likes without too much trouble. Do you find that the checkout people look at you like a goofball when you have a 100 different kinds of food in your basket at checkout? I always here "Well, you cat will never go hungry? or How many cats do you have?"

come on Tux - ditch those germs. and get better quick dancing_cat
Have a wonderful day..

hugs and prayers from us to you

Re: 12/6 Checkers amps 303 +3/376

OOhhh Checkers, haven't you been lucky getting all that tasty stuff!! I so hate being having to read all the fine print when I'm looking at food in the pet stores. I'm constantly amazed what goes in some of the foods, in spite of what they are called.

When I worked/volunteered at the shelter, I did a lot of cat pilling. In addition to the scruff, tilt head back, toss in pill trick Angela mentions, I'd usually have a syringe with a bit of water in it that I'd squirt down as a chaser. It makes the cat swallow right away, hopefully with the pill going down too. I have fond memories of having to pill all of the cats one afternoon after one cat was found to have tapeworms. ohmygod_smile Paws crossed for a speedy recovery for Tux.

Re: 12/6 Checkers amps 303 +3/376

Wewll, at lest you know why he went up!

Sending lots of healing vines to Tux. For her last UTI Tess was given a form of Baytril called Orbax. It's a flavored liquid (liver I think) and a lot easier to give than pills. She got so sick w/ Clavamox and this didn't bother her at all.

Re: 12/6 Checkers amps 303 +3/376

yuck on the pink Checkers!

Rupie loves the friskies pate, but he's only allowed the 'fishy' ones - ocean whitefish and tuna, and salmon... apparently less than 7% carbs, and yes, cheaper at walmart!

Re: 12/6 Checkers amps 303 +3/376

I gave Checks one of the safe Friskies this afternoon, and he ate it all up. Of course, tomorrow he won't like it again.
I keep trying him on the fuds with 'better' ingredients, but I throw so much away, it's just too expensive in the end.

I've never had to medicate Tux, in all the 11 years I've had him. He's never been sick!
The Baytril is orange flavor. I can't imagine a cat liking that. I'll try it in baby meat tonight.

Wendy thanks for reminding me to follow pill with squirt of water. I forgot that trick.

Ann, I had a choice of liquid or pill. I didn't care, but doc decided this particular med would work better on this infection.

Mary, I have had people ask how many cats I have, when buying many cans.

I'm not sure now, that this pink day is from that food. It should have worn off by now. I think he's bouncing from yesterdays greens!

Re: 12/6 Checkers amps 303 +3/376 +8.5/380

I hope Checkers comes down for you soon. Good luck finding food Checkers will eat consistently. I hope Tux doesn't give you trouble with the medicine. I have 2 cats I have to give pills to regularly and neither one of them will eat the pill pockets. Of course my other cats love the pill pockets.

Oh yes, that Pate does sound yummy and HC  Checkers you sure got the good stuff, and Mags is envious. Mags only takes one pill, and I've been forgetting about the squirt of water. The others ones are vis syringe. Glad Tux is coming along, and we wish him a speedy recovery.

Re: 12/6 Checkers pmps 518

Well that's it, on the Friskies. I can hardly believe that food would raise his bg like this.
Even if the insulin is toast, he shouldn't have risen this high.

He doesn't act sick. He's as active as he ever is, for an old man. He happily ate FF Beef for preshot meal. He ate Friskies Seafood Platter earlier, at about +8 ... It also has rice in it, I saw, too late.
It has 9 carbs and Checks is used to 5 to 7.

I know, I drive myself crazy, always needing to know the why of everything.

Is it tomorrow yet? :YMSIGH:

Re: 12/6 Checkers pmps 518

Dont worry, tomorrow will come Wendy. Go to bed now, Checkers will come down for you!
I am trying on the different flavor's influence on Rosy's bg. Although low carb, vension & lamb will raise Rosy's bg. Maybe beef is not that agreeable with Checkers? Also I mix the different flavor for Rosy too. Hate to throw away food they dont want to eat. Usually I will ask my friend to take & feed the stray. A lot of my friends go to feed the stray at mid-night when the shops are all closed.

Re: 12/6 Checkers pmps 518

Hi Barb,
I shudder to think what is in "cheese Tasty Treasures"! No wonder Checkers bounced to the moon!! Hey Checks, do you need the ropes? Rusty will be along later with the gang to rescue you.

When I had to pill Stu he was never cooperative. Lisa (Do Lou) suggested a good "pill shooter" and it worked better than my trying to throw the pill down his throat. http://www.amazon.com/Pet-Piller/dp/B0002AL6U6/?tag=felinediabetesfdmb-20
Don't forget to follow up the pill with a squirt of water.

I'm glad that Tux is feeling better today and I hope that Checkers will come back down tonight!!

Hugs from us,

Ella & Rusty

p.s. the whole-house generators (also called standby generators) turn on automatically when there is a power outage and turn off again when the power is restored. Pricey, but will provide us with a lot of peace of mind, especially if we should be away when an outage occurs. The unit is wired into the house and into a fuel supply (propane up here, since we have no natural gas), but it sits outside the house. Ours will be in back of our garage, so we won't be able to hear it.

Hi Barb - oh no on the fuds.... well guess Checks was one happy kitty - good eating for him today. ;-) Speedy recovery for Tux too. Isn't pilling fun! uh no.... this go around with Mannie he's decided pill pockets are good, so lucky there with the clav... the other pills are small enough that I can hide then in a piece of food, and he isn't the wiser.... I hear too that the pill shooters work great.

so sorry on that pmps! Checks - what are you doing! I would guess that you have a bit of a bounce, fueled by some really good fuds...

Hope your day has been a good one.
