Looks like Alska is staying pretty flat. Me likey!!!

He is still peeing in my chair. I think it is because one of my sick civvies likes to sit in his window. He wouldn't come upstairs for me to lock him in his room so I put extra towels in the chair.

Civvie boys are FINALLY recovering. Both are eating although they are still looking for that FF Florentine food. The second civvie got over it in half the time as the first. Now my 14 year old girl civvie is sneezing so I am fattening her up before her fast begins.

I am so glad that Alska was spared this malady.

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

Lucian peed in my bed the other day and has no new additions to blame it on! I did manage to grab him and the linens before it got to my pillowtop. Talk about getting a scolding! He has never done that.

Apparently I misunderstood his meow. It was early, I hadn't cleaned the little box yet. He came back in from eating and meowed at me like he does when he wants back on the bed, or so I thought. So I put him back up there and he proceeded to pee on it. Guess he was telling me he wanted the LB cleaned, NOW. He does insist on his potty being clean, I just didn't pick up on it. I could have sworn that was his "put me on the bed" meow!

Alska looking better today! :thumbup I see tootsies in the water later. :-D

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

But how do you do it? How do we look into those faces and yell at them? I swear that Alska doesn't have a clue why my voice is loud and directed at him. Not a clue... so I end up comforting him after. Geez, they got us wrapped!

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

Trust me, after 15 yrs, Lucian knows when I'm pissed by the tone of my voice. After he was scolded, he came in later and meowed to get on the bed and I told him 'NO, I'm mad at you!'....he went and laid under the dining table. He knows exactly what I said.

People that don't have pets or don't understand, have always laughed at the way I talk to my animals. They know what I'm saying, this I am sure of. Some say cats don't know their names or just ignore you when you call. Not mine. I can call a name and they come every time, from anywhere and not to eat. They know their names and come when called.

Yesterday Patches was under the bed messing around in the storage boxes I have under there. I called and told her "Patches, get out from under there!" here she came and I was sitting right beside the bed on the pc, not in the kitchen with food.

Lucian is the only one that will ignore me at times. And he IS ignoring me when he does it. There have been times that I have gone round and round this apt calling his name and not be able to find him cause he's hid somewhere and ignoring me. But 5 mins later, he comes out, like it was all HIS idea.

But Alska's different, you haven't had him from a kitten, like I have mine. Mine know me because I've had them all their lives. Lucian was 4 mo when my son brought him, Meow Meow was 5 mos when she adopted me and Patches was 4-5 weeks when she was dumped at my workplace. At 18, 15 and 6 years, they know me. :-D

The only two out of 16 that don't come when called is Casey and Mariposa. ... at least not yet. Mari will learn to and so will Casey if he stays with me long enough. lol

They may ignore the rules but they all KNOW the rules and even if we aren't home and some gets in trouble we'll come home with one cat in the middle of the room and the rest pointing fingers. lol

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

Yes exactly. Good point. My civvies all know exactly what I am saying to them and definitely know their names and what I want when I am calling them. Alska knows his name but is still trying to figure me out after seven months. Poor guy! I've put him through a lot - funerals, Nuzzles, and now momma and kittens and then two sneezing civvies  I too get angry and stomp around the house and they all just avoid me but Alska flees up the steps tripping and falling because his legs are not very strong so I try to calm down for him especially when it is not about him. It is annoying when they know you are calling them and THEY decide not to respond. They are worse than kids sometimes because they are harder to find. ohmygod_smile Figures Lucian is the one with the tude.

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

Haha! I just mentioned this in my condo today. Mikey is a lot like a puppy dog (maybe the Maine Coon part of him?). He follows me around everywhere...at a distance of course, but he has to be in the same vicinity as me. If he's not, it's usually because he doesn't realize I'm home for him to follow. I call for him anywhere and he'll usually come within a minute or two. The only times he doesn't are when he's sleeping.

Henry, on the other hand, comes whether he's called or not. Unless I'm trying to get him in the house for the night. Then, he only comes when he hears the treat bag shake. ohmygod_smile

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

See? It's not just me!

People that say cats don't come or don't know their names, don't have cats! Or don't show them the attention they need, to know that YOU are the 'Pride Leader' just like you have to be the' Pack Leader' with a dog. I have never had a dog that didn't consider me the Alpha and I wouldn't allow it to be any other way.

Gee? Maybe that's why I'm single?    Who'da guessed?!?!

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

Well I didn't know we were allowed to be the Alpha!!! I've been doing this all wrong...

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

You get to be the Alpha when it comes to dogs. With cats, however, you get to be Happy when they acknowledge you exist.

Cats are smart. Anyone who says differently obviously were never properly owned by a cat. Michelangelo comes not only when I call his name, but also when his pre-shot alarm goes off on my phone twice a day. He knows what that sound means: time to be tested, fed, and shot! And on weekends, he's usually the one who wakes me up when I snooze through his PS alarm.

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

You CAN'T train a cat...but you CAN make them think doing what you want them to do was THEIR idea

Bit of trivia: Pride is lions, housecats are clowder or kindle unless the are all related then they are a Pard. But my favorite is ravens are a slaughter, crows are a murder and vampires are a kiss. lol There is a really neat book called "A Litany of Larks" that has the names for all the various groups of critters.

Fine Mel! That and 1.50 will get you a cup of coffee!

That's what my son tells me when I hit him with trivia. :-D

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

Oh, I forgot to mention that Michelangelo knows not only all versions of his name (Michelangelo, Mikey, Mikey-Mike, Mikes, etc...), he also knows Henry's name! I'll ask him, "Where's Henry at?" and Michelangelo will go over to the back door, look out, then look back at me as if to say, "Outside, duh!" And he also knows "Mouse" and "Mousey." I'll tell him to go get his mouse and sometimes he'll run off and get it and play with it (only if he's in the mood, of course). Not to mention knowing all the vocal cues that go along with testing. He knows when it's test time, shot time, treat time, etc....

In MY mind I'm the Pride Leader, in THEIR minds, I'm STAFF!
My brother calls it "Cat Servitude" and whenever I'm fixing up their food, he'll say, "Oh, is it time to cater to your clowder?" ohmygod_smile

Re: 12/6 Alska AMPS=218

Good Lord! You never heard the 'cup of coffee' saying?? That is so old, first time I heard that, Caesar was just a gate guard!  Sorry, I'm full of it today! I think it's cause I've only had 5 cigs in 12 hrs!! I'm a happy camper! Now if Lucian would just straighten out.........
