I will test her in a few minutes. But She is hardly eating at all. She asks for food, cries, and then doesn't eat it. I don't know what this is, but it is awful. I also don't know what to do about shooting her, I will post a BG number soon.

She just stands by her water and by her food, looking at it, doesn't even seem to try to eat. I don't know what is stopping her and I don't know what to do. This is so awful. I found a can of FF whitefish and tuna which she is now eating some of. I didn;t put any water in it, just the gravy from the can.

Hi Robin, glad you are here. I have not tried that stuff yet, I took it out of the refrigerator and I am waiting for it to warm up a little. I am not putting it in the microwave because I don't know what that does to vitamiins, etc. and she has never eaten anything I have tried to warm that way.

I feel like she is just shutting down, and I can;t stand it. It kills me when she cries and asks for food and then just stands there looking at it. I have to leave soon for a morning meeting, Will be back around noon-ish.
Then I will do some more reading on kidney sites. I think I remember them talking about this kind of thing---called it "absence" Problem is, the things they recommend usually involve meds---and the thought of trying to give her more medicine is terrible. I am constantly battling with her and feeling like a torturer. Ihave not yet given her the Flagyl this am because she hates it so. (but I will)

I'm so sorry, what a tough spot to be in. At least you have a vet appt so at least you'll know for sure. ((((Judy))))

I think .4u would be ok, especially if you think she'll graze while your gone.

Thanks Robin. I shot .4 --she has been doing her more normal grazing. But she is skin and bones. I am way late and have to run. Back later. Thanks for your hugs!

She is eating a little, but is still doing that thing where she asks for food and then just stares at it. Then I open a new can (!!!) and sometimes she eats a little. Just enough to keep us doing it. I just gave herthe Flagyl, even tho she REALLY HATES it, on the chance that it will help her feel better. She is mostly lying around looking like skin and bones. I was on the line in the supermarket standing there waiting, and I think of her standing over that food dish and I start crying. People try not to notice.God I hate this. I am thinking about euthanasia. Will you all be disapppointed in me?

I would at least wait until you hear what the vet has to say and find out the results of her blood panel to see what is happening with her.

Nobody loves Squamee more than you do. Only you know if her quality of life isn't there. You will know what the right thing to do is when the time comes. Follow your gut and heart.

Nobody here will judge your decision.

Judy, you and Squamee have had some really rough days. I agree that you should try not to be too discouraged before you talk to her vet. But no one here will think less of you if you decide to pts. You have to do what you feel is best for Squamee, and I think I can speak for everyone by saying that you are a great mamabean to her and that you will make the right decision. I'm sure hoping for some positivity from her vet. (((((Judy))))) (((((Squamee)))))

(((Judy & S))) I'm sorry you are in this pickle. If possible, try not to feel like pills are torture, they can be life. That sounds easy but I'm sure when she is acting like you are a cat torturer while you are doing it it is a little hard.

On euthanasia, I promise you no one here will think you did anything but the right thing simply because if you chose that, it is the right thing. You are a great cat mom and only you are there with her to make those sorts of decisions. If you decide that, it is the right thing. Many people say they know when it is time or their kitty will let them know when it is time.

My story was that H had been declining for about a month [pretty much just not happy] then one day I woke up and he was weak and really couldn't walk. I gave him buprinorphine and he didn't improve at all that day and I took him in to be pts. In all honesty in full hindsight I feel I probably waited a little too long. I think I was waiting for the sign from him and he was too brave to really let me know. It might sounds crazy, but I know he cared about me and did not want to hurt me. And I became a bit emotionally frozen [I think in part because I had to develop a certain emotional distance to do the care for him], I know I can't change it and I did the best under the conditions. And really that's what we are all trying to do with these kitties - the best we can do under the circumstances.

It was naturally difficult - make sure your DH goes with you to drive.

Whatever you decide to do we stand behind you. :YMHUG:

Thank you for your responses. In particular, thank you, Gator, for telling me about how it was with you and H. I know I will have to make this decision, it is just a matter of when. It is so hard to know what her experience is, and I don't want to take even a minute of life from her if that is a minute she could enjoy. And I don't want to do it just because I am suffering to watch her. It is all just so hard to know. I have decided that when it is going to be, I am going to ask the vet to come to my home. She is always SO afraid at the vet's office---I don't want her last minutes to be there.

I am not planning to make any decisions until I see the vet. But truthfully, I am not sure about what the test results will accomplish. I have been doing a lot of reading online and I am convinced she has kidney disease. (but I will ask about thyroid). If we get blood results that confirm that--then what? I don't see how I am going to get her to eat, or get her to take the medication that would both help her to eat, and deal with any mineral imbalances, etc that she has. I might, with great struggle, get her to take a pill---but I can't prevent her from vomiting it back up. And I could put liquid med in her mouth, but can't prevent her from drooling it out. And what good does it do to put powders in her food if she can't eat?

I found a description of cat's with CRF that have a kind of seizure that involves just standing and staring. THe cause is probably a mineral imbalance---requiring meds. I also read that mouth ulcers can cause them to approach the food and then not eat---and if I remember correctly, that also means meds.

Anyhow, I greatly appreciate your warm support and understanding. I am so grateful for this site and all of you. (PZI-ers are the best!)

I agree with everything everyone has already said. I just wanted to lend my support.
I think it would be very kind of you to have the vet come to the house when the time is right.
We'll be here for you...

She is eating very little. I have tried everything I can think of. Just now I even offered her some higher carb ff beef with gravy--and she ate some of the gravy, but not all that much. She is moving slowly, looks bone-y (I think she is dehydrated, but I am seeing the vet tomorrow morning, so I am not attempting fluids now---he had only said 2x/week, and we had that scarey experience yesterday). She is mostly staying under a blanket on the couch.

So------what dose? .6?

.5 or .6 - at 300 I would think .6 should be OK but not eating is kind of nailbite_smile

Unless S had heart issues then more fluids is not that big if a deal and can really help especially if they are not eating. The only thing I would think about would be her having to go pee in the carrier because of being hydrated.

So what did you shoot? I was on the phone with a FDMB member and it was hard to type talk and think about more than one thing at a time. I'm getting old.

I'm really glad you have that vet appt tomorrow so we will know what we are dealing with.

I will be holding you and Squamee in my heart until we know.

Judy I also will be holding you and Squamee in my heart. I just want you to know that whatever decisions you have made and will make for Squamee are all out of love. You have my support.
Lori

I shot .6--but I am worried because she really isn't eating. I hate to test her again, but I think I will 1 more time before I go to sleep. or maybe I will just try to give her some high carb food---just so that she will have eaten something (if she eats it!)
She keeps walking over to her food and looking at it but not eating. She drinks just a little--and then just stands there over the water bowl. Just before she lay down next to the bowl in what I think is a meatloaf position.
I moved the vet appointment up to the morning.
I'm glad for all of you--it means a lot to know we are in your thoughts.

we really are with you too.
hope you can feel us with you both tonight.
