NOTE: Pumbaa's SS is in reverse order with the most current information at the top.

After starting to settle into the 2.75U dose, and hitting blues last night, I'm curious why he's in flat yellow numbers so far today.

I really expected him to drop down to blue again, by at least AM +6.

The good news is that he's at least staying below 250 so far.

Speaking of yellow, this is what Pumbaa is getting for Christmas

Can't tell you why the flat yellow today but...as far as his Christmas present....If he is anything like my Musette was he will just eat the pages.

I don't think Pumbaa has, or needs, a reason to do what he does

But I predict that he will be blue, if not green, by overnight tonight or tomorrow. He does seem to follow a pattern. He had pinks yesterday, flat yellows today, so blues/greens are next.

Mel: If I sprinkle parmesan cheese on the pages, Pumbaa will eat them for sure! *LOL*

Well you're a big help! *LMAOPMP* I'm happy for one thing...that you and some of the other more experienced people are joining me in the frequent Pumbaa-caused  . I don't feel so stupid now, like I'm totally missing something in Pumbaa's SS or in his care.

Unfortunately, he had pinks later this AM cycle, for another morning with an inverse curve. (So much for the Turtle's song, "Mellow Yellow", running through my head this morning.) That's three mornings in a row with an inverse curve. But, if he follows his very strange "pattern", since he went up this morning, he should come down tonight. Greens are a strong possibility tonight.

TO EVERYONE: Tomorrow's AM cycle is Pumbaa's 10th cycle at 2.75U. Should I plan on increasing him to 3.0U at the 11th cycle (PM dose tomorrow), or hold him and wait and see if he just needs longer to settle into this dose? (Depending on what he does, tonight, of course.)

Pumbaa hit green the 6th cycle on 2.50U. He hit green the first cycle on 2.75U, but I assume that was the shed from the 2.50U. Does it take some cats/Pumbaa longer to settle in the higher the dose? I was so hopeful that at 2.75U he would at least remain below 250 the entire time on the dose, NDW or bounce or whatever.

ps: I started adding (number) under the dose, where number=cycle at this dose. I'm tired of recounting how many cycles he's been at a dose, since frequently I change the dose at the PM shot, which makes it harder to count the cycles. And the only reason I got in the habit of increasing his dose during the PM cycle was because, on Lantus, the dose increase seemed to affect him during an AM cycle that way. I really haven't seen the same pattern on Levemir, and don't know why I continue to increase him during the PM cycle, other than habit. I don't have time to log on in the morning before testing/feeding/shooting time, so if I should increase him tomorrow, and should make it during the AM dose, please let me know now.

I think he aspires to have pretty colors on his SS like the other kids! And he's doing a nice job trying to get there!

Psychedelic kitties? ;)

Honestly, Just my gut feeling looking at his spreadsheet is that his ideal dose is somewhere inbetween 2.75 and 2.50u. 2.50 didn't quiet hold him in good numbers but did get him there for a fair amount of time, but when you went up a full .25u he started rebounding into worse numbers.

It took me awhile to figure out that was what Autumn was doing. She would throw me a number below 40, I would reduce, she would settle in and give me a day or two of beautiful days then shoot right back up to those high numbers and hang there so I would raise her dose and she would get worse numbers the higher I would go, until finally I basically overpowered her body's defenses and forced her into lower numbers. I wasn't so much breaking her insulin resistance as I was her over-dose safety net.

So what I did was drop her back lower than her ideal dose to stop the rebound and start going up drop by drop, which is how we got where we are right now sitting on a nice steady fat .5u. Now all I have to do is sit tight and wait for her to relearn that normal numbers are really okay. Which I almost expect to try the patience of Job  Of course Cami went a longtime without treatment too and she seems to be getting the hang of it fairly quickly, so maybe Autumn will too.

But that is just what worked for Autumn and I when we started seeing that kind of pattern, but Autumn was also already on a much smaller dose thus a drop is a greater percentile of a dose increase than Pumbaa''s current dose.

Just my two cents would be trying to start fine-tuning it. It looks to me like you are at least in the right hood.

Mel, that's the problem! I don't know if Pumbaa's dose is too high or too low.

If I follow TR or Tilly's, he's still too low, and I need to increase him. You and others bring up reasons that he might be too high, and have stats to show how well your cats did when you lowered their doses.

I just don't know what to do. Reducing Pumbaa's dose in the past has failed. I really think I just need to forge forward with dose increases, since I have never, either on Lantus or Levemir, had him above 2.75U. Maybe 3.0U is his perfect dose to get his pancreas working again. Maybe it's 3.25U. I just don't know. :?

But I'm very frustrated that Pumbaa continues to bounce and dive, and not settle down to a constant regulated insulin dose.

And I so appreciate all input, from you and Sheila and everyone else, because my only goal is to get Pumbaa regulated, after all of these months. (((HUGS)))

Hi Suze

I've been meaning to pop in and see how you and Pumbaa are doing. I agree with you that you should just keep pressing on. When you are increasing in small increments as you are, you can't get him overdosed. I think you are better off to take his dose up as you have been doing instead of decreasing his dose.

Ever since Gracienhadthe bile duct infection and had to take all tho meds, she lost regulation. I kept thinking she might be overdose as the A/Bs cleared the infection and her insulin need dropped. I took her down and then waited....ugly pink and yellow. So I started taking her up, giving her over ten cycles to settle in. She was getting more green on a lower dose but she didn't have enough insulin on board to counteract those ugly pink bounces. Yes....we are supposed to just ignore the bounces but its tough. I kept taking her up. She's now starting to flatten out more....still getting some yellow but we've lost the pink (anti jinx). Now that I have her a little flatter, I'll probably add another drop to bring the overall range down.

I'm not sure why you reversed Pumbaas SS but for those trying to help you, it's really hard to see the waves of action with it reversed.

Hope your mom is well. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Thank you so much, Marje, for your input when I know you've been busy with Gracie. I hope you get Gracie back to where she should be soon. (((HUGS)

I reversed Pumbaa's SS because, in every SS I have gone to, the most recent numbers have been the most important, even though we look at history for patterns. And we all waste so much time every day scrolling down to either input that current data, or to view that current data. If everyone had their most recent data at the top, and had done this from the beginning, Pumbaa's SS wouldn't be an issue. I am just trying to save me, and others, time, by having the most pertinent data at the top, so no one has to wait for Google Docs to load, to see where Pumbaa is right now.

Thank you for asking! Mom is doing really well, considering her colon cancer diagnosis and surgery a few weeks ago! And the fact that they got all of the cancer in the surgery and she doesn't have to have chemo or radiation! Thank God for this blessing! :)

I hope Pumbaa's reverse SS doesn't stop you from giving us advice on where to go with the little guy. Since I am just one person, I needed to find all ways that I can to simplify my life and eek out minutes here and there, and manage my time better. I am so far behind on yard work and indoor work needed, and projects that I need to take care of for Mom, it's unbelievable. Every minute counts, to me. Especially due to now having to devote more time to FD Pumbaa. And the reverse SS has helped a lot.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I have been preparing for my sisters to come and it's been hectic.

I'm glad your mom is doing better. I will keep her in my prayers.

Thanks for your wishes on Gracie. She's doing better.

Insofar as your SS, you know I am always willing to help. However, I, personally, have a difficult time reading them in reverse order and I don't want to risk any cats safety because I failed to see something important or I misinterpret something. I respect someone's right to do whatever makes their life easier....we all have so much on our plates. I've tried with other members to read those reverse order SSs and I just don't have the "eye" for it....I wish I did. For me, It's all about safety and I would not want to jeopardize Pumbaas or any other kitty's safety because of my lack of ability to read the SS.

Marje, I hope you have a wonderful visit with your sisters!

Peer pressure caused me to switch Pumbaa's SS back to the most current information at the bottom. Now you all will have to listen to me ***** and moan about the scrolling time. haha_smiley

Thanks, Suze. I know it takes time to scroll to the bottom; and with google, you often have to refresh. I appreciate you helping us out....especially me ;-)

I appreciate you all helping me and Pumbaa out. I guess I'll have to make a curse-word graphic for the scrolling. *LOL*
