Yesterday, beautiful numbers, spoiled by a vetty visit.

12/4 Recap:
AMPS 79  +3 149 +7.5 95  +10 104
PMPS 116 +4 185

I woke to the sounds of complaining and whacking cats this morning. Neko is often even more eager for food when she starts green. Oh well, it was short lived.

I got Neko's blood work and urinalysis results back and am waiting a call back from the vet to discuss. For the first time ever, both blood and urine glucose were normal. However, her protein is creeping up. According to the Merck Online Veterinary Manual, persistent proteinuria is typical for acrocats. Unfortunately, it's also an early marker for kidney disease. nailbite_smile

Foggy, gray, drizzly day here, but at least the snow is now gone. Vines to all in need today. Extra hugs to Chris on the sudden loss of her drooler.

Re: 12/5 Neko AMPS 95 +3.5 267

I hope Neko gets back to green soon. I hope the protein creeping up isn't something bad. Hopefully you get that call from the vet soon.

Goodness, Neko. Get away from the donuts! A post breakfast dessert? (Vet visit. Yeah, right. It was the donuts I'm sure.)

Interesting about the proteinuria. Hope it's nothing of consequence for Neko. Gives me something else to put in my little (getting bigger) book of what-to-watch-for!

Congrats on the urine/bloodwork glucose results. You rock, Neko.

Neko did an upside down smile curve today. We came back from a little grocery shopping and she was keen to go out. I think she lasted all of three minutes. I OK'ed the urine protein/creatine ratio test the vet wanted me to run. That's the next step to figure out why the higher protein in the urine (thanks Marje!).

@Carla, Marilyn - Neko got over her donut breakfast. Issues with heart and kidneys are common with acros, so best to keep on top of this in case there is something we can do now to slow any changes. I'm thinking about another echocardiogram next year for Neko too. It's been almost 2 years since the last one. I'm hoping to wait until my wallet recovers from her upcoming dental. But I was very proud of her glucose results. cat_pet_icon

Great news on the BGs! Paws crossed the protein will be something easily managed. We will be watching for the results of the new test.

Ooooh look at that- nearly matching bookends again! LOL on the visit outside, Tiger hasn't spent a lot of time outside either! That's great news on the BG, sending prayers the proteinuria is managable, and yeah, fingers crossed for the upcoming test results! :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Well these bookend PS are getting to be a habit and I like it!! Cant ask for any better than that.

You're welcome on the protein in the urine issue. I hope the UPC test will be back soon and put your mind at rest. I really thought her labs look good.....especially that nice, normal glucose :-D I know there were a couple things that were a little off but I don't think they present anything to worry about. I forgot to mention that one thing I read said that you can sometimes see protein in the urine when the pH is more alkaline than what it should be which Neko's was. Yes, 7 is not acidic and not alkaline, but a cat's urine pH should ideally be 6-6.5. I notice on Gracie's labs that when her pH is closer to 7, she shows trace or +1 protein. I've had her UPC run and it was normal. So I'm hoping Neko's is just associated with her acro which you know much more about than I do.
