Gave Chester the dose increase starting last night. However, I'm trying (REALLY hard) to teach my DH how to do things so I can go visit family at Christmas and it's NOT going well. He can't use my normal meter...gets very stressed, gets Chester very stressed. He'll be using the AlphaTrak ($$$$$) exclusively so Chester's numbers may not be as consistent as before (like they ever were, right?) I'll probably save $ in the long run because he gets constant error readings on the other meter.

I gave the shot this morning, just to be sure it got in (with the dose increase and all). No matter how many times I try to show him....AARRRRGGGHHH!

Cross your paws for us...this isn't going to be easy!

Re: 12/5 Chester's amps 300

Jaye,

Good luck in teaching. Maybe he should use the meter that he is more comfortable with while you are gone. You don't want to make the situation stressed. Chester doesn't need that any neither does DH. Just make sure to mark it on your ss so if there is a difference you will know why. That's great that he is willing to help. Good going DH! Some people don't know what they'll do when faced with being gone.

Have a great vacation.

Re: 12/5 Chester's amps 300

good morning!
i've tried teaching mine to no avail....he hates needles and such....and he would stress Rocket out for sure....but since you are going away...do what they do at school with the little kids...be patient and praise praise praise....even if on the inside you are saying the opposite!
good luck teaching....
Chester hope you have a stress free day and be patient with your papa bean as he is pretty new at this! ok? ;-)

Re: 12/5 Chester's amps 300

good luck, Teach! i'll bet like the rest of us, it'll get easier for DH with familiarity...

You know, you're right. I haven't been praising him for what he does right nearly enough. Thank you, Claudia, for reminding me of that. ;-) This morning he got up with me at 5:00 a.m. even though he knows I can handle all the meds (it's not just Chester, there are four others right now with special meds/food needs in the morning) and took care of some of them before tackling Chester with me...and all I did was gripe. I need to remember that husbands need the patience and praise, even more than the kids I teach at school!

After all, if he can use the AlphaTrak meter consistently, that's all that matters. At least he'll get me some readings..and he's very good at doing what I ask...if he can figure it out.

I've taken pictures of EVERYTHING having to do with my animals and am in the process of making a Family Care Book, just in case we're both called out for an emergency (I have an out of state elderly parent) a house sitter/vet tech could bumble around and still leave me with live animals at the end of it.

At least were FINALLY in the blues again!

Uh, oh... am I going to be in trouble with this dose increase?

Gave him a small LC snack at +5 (94 Alphatrak). Don't want to feed him after this, though, because I suspect we're reached the nadir already.

Re: 12/5 Chester's amps 300,+3=173,+5=94

You are lucky you can get you DH to use the meter mine still is afraid to learn so go praise that DH and I would have him use which meter he can I do not know what brand your other one is but go with which one DH can use I have the alphatrak as well but rarely use it only when Do Lou is low. Great +5 Chester you can surf now ;-)

Re: 12/5 Chester's +3=173,+5=94,+6=128

VERY nicely done, Chester! After only a small LC snack at +5 (no HC or Kibble...YAY!) we've got such a pretty blue. Happy dance time!

Re: 12/5 Chester's +6=128, pmps 310

I'm kind of surprised with the lovely numbers Chester had today that his pmps was so high. Oh, well....it is what it is, right?

Re: 12/5 Chester's +6=128, pmps 310

Chester, how come you decided to go back up in the pink? you didn't like what you saw!!! how come? ;-)

Re: 12/5 Chester's +6=128, pmps 310

He MIGHT have gotten into some nasty salmon treats right before dinner, but I don't think so and besides, that would have been pure protein. I'll keep testing him tonight and see where this goes. At least it's a very low pink.

The good news is that Hubby did it all by himself. I talked him through it, (and triple checked the insulin draw) but he did both Chester and my dog...all food, testing and shots!

And now he's even cooking dinner!

Re: 12/5 Chester's BEYOND FRUSTRATION! Advice Please +4=76

Well, here we go again. It looks like we had one pretty blue cycle on this new dose and now we're dropping like an elevator again. I can't have this happening when I'm at work. Even though I have the auto feeder, Chester has proven not to be one of those cats who realizes he's getting low...he'll ignore the food.

Did I jump the gun on the dose increase? Those yellows the day before yesterday maybe were precursors to some blues on the skinny .5?

I don't know what to do about this...there isn't anything between a .5 and a .5 minus one drop...unless I alternate those doses day and night. I KNOW Levemir likes consistency...but I've been wondering... If it works on having a reservoir of insulin stored up would alternating his dose by a drop morning and night just keep a slightly lower volume in that reservoir instead of it being all one or the other. I truly don't know what to do with this boy.

I have that 4 day trip looming over me and I HAVE to take it. I haven't seen my 85 year old father in a year...enough said about that. I guess I'm feeling that this is not the time to go for a remission, but rather a safe number that DH can manage alone. Dipping into the 80s on an AlphaTrak is NOT that number for me.

Pulling out my hair here....

you know i'm no help with info, but i can give you a bump, jaye...

Re: 12/5 Chester's BEYOND FRUSTRATION! Advice Please +4=76

I can't advise but I'll bump you up too. My DD will shoot I have her do scruff 'cause it's easier to do that on skinny Powder. away. going Hope you enjoy

Re: 12/5 Chester's BEYOND FRUSTRATION! Advice Please +4=76

I tend to think that Chester's pancreas is sputtering. Based on what the AM cycle today, with perfect 20 - 20 hindsight I can say it looked like Chester may be winding up for a dose reduction.

How are you feeding? It may help a bit if you front load food over the first several hours of the cycle, if you're not doing so already.

When will you be traveling?

Pancreas sputtering? nailbite_smile Not sure what that implies, but it doesn't sound good!

I feed him basically all he'll eat at meal time (which isn't always much...he likes to be on the go, constantly distracted). Then I leave the food out for him to nibble as he wants. Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. I have to leave for work within an hour (at the most) from his breakfast. When I'm home, like tonight, I'll check him at around +3 and go from there. That often means a snack, although he ate a substantial one tonight at that time and still managed to drop to 76 afterward.

When I'm not home I've been setting my autofeeder. I let the breakfast food sit (5:30 a.m.) Then, at 7:00 it turns to a fresh tray...just to stimulate his appetite a bit if he wasn't interested in the breakfast leftovers. I usually put a different type of food in it. It turns (at 9:30 a.m.) to an empty try and stays that way until supper time.

Are you thinking that I should go back down tomorrow a.m. He's probably going to be higher because of the HC tonight, maybe even bouncing because of the steep drop from the 300s to the 70s. Poor Yo-Yo Chester.

What are your thoughts on the alternating idea to keep a constant slightly lower volume in the shed? I know that it's not generally done, but I can't think of any other way to handle this.

I'm not leaving until Christmas...but Hubby need a LOT of practice time!
