Well, despite my best efforts I STILL can't get Tip moving enough to start the ball rolling to get her to lose weight. I would simply feed less, but it's near impossible to keep her out of Christmas's food and vise-versa. Plus Christmas needs to put on some weight. I'm kind of stuck on idea. I'd try walking her, but winter is finally deciding to stick, so it's a bit cold outside to have her walk out, should I still try to just get her to walk around the house more?

What about a treat ball? It's a ball that has a hole in it. The kitties have to move the ball around to get a treat to drop out.

The other thing you could do is feed them in separate rooms.

Is she willing to play with you? Play can really get them moving and burn some calories.

I don't know if Christmas has special dietary needs or whatever but how giving them less but have a special extra meal only for Christmas (shut her in a room where tip can't get to, or prevent tip from getting to that meal until she has eaten it). We have a civvie cat that gets chased around and so doesn't eat as much so for one meal a day I lock the boys away while she eats in peace.

I have a treat ball for 'em(2 actually) but Tip shows no interest. I also have a feather wand, but Tip only really flops on the ground and tries to catch it that way. Occasionally I can get her to run around or jump for it.

I could try the separate rooms. I know Christmas will only really eat when I'm there next to her. She gets pretty skittish and runs off at the slightest of sound anyways(she's always been a bit skittish). Only dietary need Christmas has is that she has irritable bowel. But I changed them over to Natural Variety Instinct, low-carb so I wouldn't have to bother about having 2 different foods around.

The big thing I've noticed is Tip is really in to going for food. The moment food is involved, she'll break out in to a sprint, or soon as I pick up the food, she'll instantly be 'starving'. I think if I could figure out a way to work that in to it that I'd get her to be more likely to want to get up and move. I'm not too sure why she isn't in to the treat ball. I might sit down with her and see if she's having problems figuring it out, isn't interested in the freeze-dried treats in it, or what.

You could try the food game. Our boys love it. I go to the end of the hall and throw the food down it so it slides along the floor... They chase it and eat it, it's like catching your prey and eating it!. Works good with freeze dried chicken pieces. You could do that in place of a mini meal.

Oh! Good idea! I could do that from the dining room to the kitchen, since that's just about the only non-carpeted area of the house.

If its dark floor the freeze dried chicken works well, if its pale floor then the freeze dried liver works well... It's easier to see the contrast so easier for them to find, and you to find later if they miss one.

If they aren't used to the game sometimes you need to warm them up a bit first.. Not throw it as far, wiggle it a bit till they are watching intensely. But before long you can get the, running up and down the hall. I wait until they walk almost back to me before I throw the next one.. And if they don't all back I throw it as far away from them as possible..

Oh! I thought canned food, so thought sliding across in a bowl. But would I find the freeze-dried liver in the same area the freeze-dried chicken is?

Canned food? No that could get messy.. I meant bits of dry. Yep you can find dried liver with the chicken. Sometimes I get the dog stuff (as long as its pure chicken or pure liver and nothing else). Coz dog stuff can be cheaper and bigger bags!

Haha, yeah, it would. Yeah, I noticed that when I was looking for freeze-dried chicken, it did come in big pieces though, so to fill the treat ball I had to break it up a little. I'll definitely try that. It'll be really nice once finals are over because then I'll have all the time in the world to play with them and catch them when they're actually feeling playful.

Ideal weight is difficult   I always prefer them to be a bit on the chubby side , as a buffer. We all know if they are not feeling well or something, they slim down very fast.

Yeah I break them into dime size pieces and keep any powder at the bottom of the bag to sprinkle on the food to encourage eating if need be later,

Haha, and it can be. I think I'm finding this especially difficult because Tip needs to lose and Christmas needs to gain.

Great idea that Wendy had.

Gracie is pretty good about just eating the calories she needs but our younger cat, Tobey, is always hungry. Because he started getting chubby, I measure his food out and once he's done with that, no more wet food. But I keep boiled chicken breast in the frig and ill give him a little bit of that and it helps fill him.

Chicken can be used as a filler? I tend to keep baked chicken in the freezer for her as reward treats. But if it can be used as a filler, I might use it more often.
