His high pink AMPS might partially be due to his constipation problem. We called our vet and he squeezed him in first thing when he opens at 9 A.M. I'll update his SS when we get home. Here is a recap until then.

John, good luck with the Vetty. How many days has PurrFace had the constipation? Sending some good Vetty vines and hope all goes well.

Re: 12/4 PurrFace AMPS 376

Thank Ann,Angela, Mary for your concern and well wishes for PurrFace. We just got back from the vets about 10 minutes ago. He gave us an enema to administer to PurrFace at home. Today is his surgery, day and he had a lot do dogs in there. We gave it to him and it took effect within 5 minutes. After he used the LB he bagan to salivate and throw up. I called the vet and he said "oh my, I forgot to tell you that the enema will make him salivate and cause him to be nauseated. I'm sitting with him on the porch but he wants inside. I'll stay with him out here for about an hour and if he's done "going" I'll take him inside.

Re: Miralax ? 12/4 PurrFace AMPS 376

Thank you for the suggestion of Miralax, Marje. This is new territory for us. He's never had this problem before. Poor guy is on the porch with me but wants to go inside. He still is using the LB a lot out here and doesn't have to go more than 15' to get to it. He is also still throwing up so I want to keep him out here until he normalizes a bit.

The vet said he could only feel a blockage about half way up his colon so he gave us the enema syringe to use at home. Within 5 minutes he was in the LB shooting out marble sized balls that sounded like a bang, they hit the side of the LB with such force. So far I've counted 6 of them. He is so good. We placed an old carpeted door mat in front of the porch door that goes to the yard. Every time he throws up he gets down from the settee and goes to the door mat to do it. He's been resting quietly for the past 5 minutes so maybe that's a sign that he is beginning to feel better. I've been giving him some FF Flaked Fish & Shrimp Feast because it has a lot of water in it and 0% carbs. I'm thinking now that I should switch to something with some carbs since he is throwing up.

Hope you have a great day and thank you again.

Re: Miralax ? 12/4 PurrFace AMPS 376

I'm glad the enema worked, but sorry about the side effects. I've had to do it for my GA Cleo, more power to you.

What are you wanting to know about Miralax? I don't see a question. If it is dosage I think the starting dose is 1/8 tsp and then watch to see how well it is working. many cats are on it long term w/ no side effects. i just mix it into Tess's food.

Your link to yesterday's condo isn't working. There is a "]" missing after the first "url".

Re: Miralax ? 12/4 PurrFace AMPS 376

We also use Miralax regularly with Zener and our civvie Tillie - we fluctuate between 1/8t twice a day and 1/16t twice a day. If things get too hard we up a little and if pudding poo we go down a touch. Right now both are on 1/8t twice a day and that is working fine. Zener weights a bit over 12lbs and Tillie is about 10lbs. Paws crossed the "cleanse" does the trick.

Re: Miralax ? 12/4 PurrFace AMPS 376

Miralax will pull water into the colon. You mix about 1/8 teaspoon into PurrFace's food and add extra water to the food. That will help to soften the stool. Adding water to your kitty's food is always a good idea. It's good for kidney health and FD is hard on the kidneys. I add a fair amount of water to both of my cats' food.

Re: 12/4 PurrFace AMPS 376 +4/262

Thank you Ann, Anne & Sienne for your input on MiraLAX. And also thank you Ann for letting me know that I messed up when I posted yesterday condo. I believe I've got it working now, thanks again. I'll be sure to pick some up and start using it. I mix a bit of water with the food most of the time because none will eat it if it's too soupy. I'll begin adding a little more each time until I see how much I can add before they won't eat it. Also, Sienne, thank you for the info on how the extra water aids with kidney health.

I only administered 1/2 of the enema solution on the vet's advice. He said that might do the trick and it appears it has. He ate some and so far he's kept it down, he's sleeping now. Giving a cat an enema is an experience I don't want to repeat. I was so afraid of injuring him but I followed the vet's instructions and did ok it seems,

Thank you all again for your visit. I always look forward to hearing from you. Have a great day.

Re: 12/4 PurrFace AMPS 376 +4/262

Hi John,

I'm sorry poor Purrface had such a rotten day. I also use Miralax every day. Racci uses 1/4 tsp bid. She's big tho (20 lbs.), sometimes a little less. I give it with a syringe and then give water in her food also.

I hope that did the trick and Purrface starts to feel better now.

Re: 12/4 PurrFace AMPS 376 +4/262

Hi John,

Wow, poor PurrFace went through the wringer today! I'm glad that you and he survived the enema and that he is feeling better this evening. Rusty likes his food a bit on the soupy side and PurrFace might also. It is certainly better for them to get enough water, especially if they do not drink a lot (Rusty hardly ever drinks from his water bowl or from his fountain; I finally put the fountain away).

Have a better evening!

Thank you Melanie. PurrFace is only 14 pounds so I guess I should start him out on about 1/8 tsp in his food and see how he does. I really appreciate your visit and information. I learned a lot from you and the other folks that posted. It is greatly appreciated.

He seems to be doing fine. He actually used the LB about an hour ago. It wasn't much but it was something and it didn't seem to be hard as a rock like the others after he received a little help from Mr. Enema. He was really hungry tonight at his pre-shot meal. I guess it cleaned everything out of him. We began adding a lot of water to all of the cats food. I mixed it really good and it formed a sort of gravy and they ate it.

Have a great night and thank you again.

Re: 12/4 PurrFace PMPS 320

I was actually expecting all of his numbers to be high considering the stress and pain he had today so the PMPS 320 isn't too bad. I hope he has a good night. I know my DW and I will be waking up with every little noise tonight to see if it's PurrFace in the LB.

Hope everyone has a great evening.

I can remember as a youngster there was a thousand things I wanted to do when I got older but try as I may, I can't remember "sit by a LB and watch a cat poo" being one of them. How our goals in life change as we get older. Yes, Ole PurrFace did a nice prizzie just the way it is suppose to be.

I hope everyone had a great night (or day). It's off to bed for me. I-) I-) I-)

Awww...Poor Frosty. Hope he gets better soon with the miralax. I guess that the lack of carb in our kitties food will also cause constipation. Remember how doc akways advice us to have more vege fibre intake for a healthy bowl movement? But of course since our DM kitties cannot have high carb, I was thinking if pumpkin canbe a solution. Remembered somebody was adding smashed pumpkin to her sugar kitty on LL...
