Mary is doing better tonight on numbers. I just got a 151 at plus 4 but it was a test that had a delay in getting enough blood, so I questioned the results. Next one of course was error code and that left me with only 2 strips because I figured my shipment from Walmart would have come by now. I went ahead and tested her on my freestyle even though I know they can be inaccurate and she was 226. Saving the 2 strips for the am, with hopes of no error codes until I can get more on my lunch break.
I feel like her hunger has not gotten any better yet I am feeding her more. 3 cans spread out between shots and +1,+2, +3.
She always gets up from wherever she may be and follows me to the kitchen and when she does eat she is like a wolf, growling as she eats, course don't really know if that's what wolves do. Should I just keep increasing her food until she stops being so hungry?
Thanks for the visit Tara!

no, you don't want to just keep giving her food endlessly. there is a post on the bottom of the "new to the group" sticky that addresses it - i think it's called "feed kitty as much as she wants?" or something like that. take a peek there. you want her weight to be stable, unless she's overweight. if she needs to lose weight it needs to be done slowly.

she's probably extra hungry because of the high numbers.

don't you hate it when you're rationing strips? i used the freestyle lite for a long time - it's accurate enough in low numbers to keep her safe so you can have that as your back-up. she's probably fine tonight. hope your strips come tomorrow!

Here is the post Julie was talking about on Feed Kitty as Much as They Want.

The best thing to do is figure out how many calories she needs to maintain her weight. There are two says to do it:

easy way: if her weight is good with what you are feeding her, then determine the number of calories in the amount you normally feed (not any extra you feed because she's hungry). Divide that by two so half the calories are fed in the morning cycle and half in the evening cycle.

not as easy way: weigh her and decide if she needs to gain or lose weight. Start with feeding 20 calories/pound and divide that amount by two (for a.m. And p.m. Cycles) If this seems like a lot less food then she normally eats, you don't want to cut her back too much so just cut back a tiny amount if she needs to lose. Feed for a week, weigh. If she gains but doesn't need to, cut back the calories just slightly. If she loses, but doesn't need to, increase slightly. Weigh after one week. You don't want her losing more than 1% of her weight in a week.

I keep boiled chicken breast in the frig and if Gracie gets really hungry in between feedings, I give her just a little of the chicken breast.
