Re: 12/4 Charlie amps: HI, 5.5u

You'll get there, he does seem to be coming around and then doesn't, one of these days he'll fall right in line for you.

Hang in there.

Re: 12/4 Charlie amps: HI, 5.5u

I can't recall if you had Charlie tested for acro and IAA. I also saw alot of hopeful numbers for Shadoe then back up she went again, and Charlie's ss reminds me of hers.

I had a very hard time convincing my vet to have Shadoe tested - vet said she does not look acro and dose not really that high. I had to take the papers for the tests info sheets from MSU site and tell them to call and make arrangements. Her results were positive; she is what you might call a low dose acro most times. She is around 12.5u now, but is mostly around just under 7u.

You have already started over with the dose, and have worked your way back up with no improvement, no discovery of a missed good dose for Charlie. You may want to mention the testing to your vet again so your vet can get ready to send off the blood draw to MSU if you decide to test.

Good luck with the dose increase

Hi Gayle,

Unfortunatly they can't do the testing right now, long story, so they are going to have to wait for now.

But we all would appreciate your guidance and input as an acromom until then.

Thanks for keeping an eye on her.

Robin

Re: 12/4 Charlie amps: HI, 5.5u

Ok I think I'm on the right thread now, accidentally sent this response to another thread like a moron lol.. So, I see response on your ss! He's doing as expected, just want you to know that. The resistance is going to continue to fight back until you can overwhelm it, but you will see flashes of light such as that 240 that show progress. You're doing great, and I like the 6u plan. The most important thing to monitor in a high dose cat is behavior... So hows he feeling? Appetite? Social interaction?

Re: 12/4 Charlie amps: HI, 5.5u

+5: 298, that's over 200 points lower, not too bad. I'll try to get a +8.

Hi Gayle, thanks for stopping by to help me out! I really appreciate the input of acromoms since it looks like that's pretty likely the issue here. Dh just got called back to work so I plan to have Charlie tested for acro and IAA when we get all caught up. I'm thinking early January.

Carolyn-He is very social, and his activity level is just below what I would call normal for him. He still follows us from room to room, wiggles door knobs, and wrestles with us. Yesterday he was climbing the Xmas tree. He still pees more than our civie, but drinks less than he did when he was dx. That's probably because of the wet food, and because I also add water to it. So he's not a lazy bum, just not as frisky as he could be. He's such a good boy. I'm very proud of how well he handles all of this!

+8: HI

Yuck! What happened? I'm guessing he dropped "low" (to Charlie, not really low) sometime between +5 and 8, then sprang up again. Hopefully he'll be down some by his pmps.

Re: 12/4 Charlie amps: HI, +5:298

sometimes they go high before they drop.. it's a wait and see thing :-D regardless of his numbers, he is doing great! That kind of activity and sociability says you're doin' it right mama :)

Re: 12/4 Charlie amps: HI, +5:298

Hi Claudia,
Sure there is no problem at all to put off the testing. I pretty much did the same with Oliver because I needed to wait till I could afford it all - I knew how much it cost from having Shadoe tested - and it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he was going to test positive so the test was just a formality.
So we continued as if we already had the results because nothing really changed for how we treated Ollie and not much changes in how you are going to take care of Charlie. You still give insulin like usual and you adjust based on his numbers.
All we changed was to make sure we stayed about 100 BG, but the rest was as Carolyn said - watch Charlie and he will tell you how he's doing by how he's acting.
I know it can be very frustrating ... you finally get a lower number, then up you go again. As Carolyn mentioned, seeing a high can indicate a change of direction. Shadoe still does that to me ... I will get a high Red and then she changes direction. She is like a pendulum, swinging back and forth. You'll be able to see Charlie's patterns on his ss as you gather more numbers.

Good luck with the dose.

I'm relieved to hear that someone elses kitty doesn't have a pretty u-shaped curve, too. I thought it was just poor Charlie. It is wierd how he bounces around toward the end of a cycle. But I guess it's not as unusual as I thought.
