..not great news today. but maybe others have some things they can assure us about.. or suggest. i am seriously taking things, all things generally, and now especially this, one day, one hour, one second at a time.. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

it would seem its his kidneys.. kidney disease. ๐Ÿฅบ came on suddenly, tooโ€ฆโ€ฆ had blood and urinalysis showed urine wasnt concentrated so.. yeah. (?) just 5 weeks or so ago his blood was great. wants us to see an internist.. because it was fast. which i have an appt. but thats not til end of Januaryโ€ฆโ€ฆ. apparently is just treating symptoms and keeping him comfortable.. which sigh. hes to get subcutaneous fluid twice or so a week to get him to his appt.. is there also a supplement or something we could try? (like he takes a tincture for his liver, the thistle.. that has helped tremendously.) cuz these symptoms suck!!!! the muscles in his legs are already gone. hes having a hard time jumping up now.. and hes peeing soo much that sometimes it pools down towards his feet and gets them wet.. and pretty thirsty still. ๐Ÿฅบ hes acting ok tho considering and appetite is still great. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน๐Ÿ’˜ (dead in the water otherwise..) but this is raggedy.

guess it wasnt the meds.. idk. ๐Ÿซค hes been off them a few days, think numbers going back up.. was told can now put him back. says kitties w kidney things get put on them too anyway.. i heard this too on Telmisartan but he wants me to hold off til internist i think he said..

i feel many things rn.. like weโ€™ve been up against a lot. weโ€™ve done our best w all circumstances.. and they had been really nasty at times. i feel badly that this might be due to the FD.. hypertension.. but i tried hard and continue to try to help all these things.. and not like the vets warn you. just sleepless days and nights. so much had to change. some really harsh difficult problems.. i am happy to just leave this garbage year and everything else behind..

so.. its day to day now. part of me was thinking, all this hard work weโ€™ve done.. heโ€™s come down a lot too.. for nothing. ๐Ÿ˜“ that it just bought time.. not even. but thats all anything is.. day to day. trying to fix things.. make them better.. its just been a lot of work. and it feels cruel.. i just feel less urgency about it all. but hey. ๐Ÿ™

its quality. and tho i think this or that.. i dont have a clue how this will go. we have our tree up finally.. and im just trying to think how to go about the days.. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน๐Ÿ’”..

Was Pudge's urine taken first thing in the morning for the urinalysis? That'll be when it's most concentrated. If he was dehydrated during the blood draw, that can also cause higher kidney numbers. What were his phosphorus, potassium values, creatinine, BUN and urine specific gravity values ? If you can put his lab results in the Labs tab section of the spreadsheet that'll be really helpful. Putting in this set of results plus the previous will be enough for now.

Many people have cats with kidney disease that survive a long time past the diagnosis. If you haven't been there already, this website is quite helpful: Tanya's Comprehensive Guide to Feline Chronic Kidney Disease โ€“ Everything You Need to Know to Help Your Cat

What food are you currently feeding him? There is a list in this link of foods that are good for both diabetes and kidneys: CKD food Chart

Sending you and Pudge many good wishes and healing vines ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿƒ
So many of our older kitties have kidney issues ๐Ÿ˜ž
Definitely look at Tanyaโ€™s page. Itโ€™s very extensive and informative.

Give your sweet boy lots of kisses from me and hoping heโ€™s hanging in there.
Have you given fluids at home before?
That helps them so much.
(Iโ€™ve done it for my previous CKD kitty ๐Ÿ’“)

Here is a link to a really helpful video and information

Pudge is so lucky to have such a diligent and loving mama ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿซ‚

I'm so sorry. Poor Pudge. And poor you! It's so hard and stressful when they're struggling. I don't know how much it's helping her since she's also on renal food, but my kitty Zoey takes Aminavast supplement for her kidneys and her values have been holding pretty steady for a couple years now. My parents' kitty with CKD also takes it and he's doing well. It's impossible to tell how much it's helping her since there are so many variables, but maybe it's worth a shot.

My CKD kitty took Astro's oil. They have two other supplements on their website as well that helped her out a ton. Still use the oil for my current kitties as a preventative. *Huge hugs*

Will definitely read there..

he gets Merrick Limited Ingredient turkey food.. cuz of his sensitivities. its also a very good food i think (?) bit of money.. but worthwhile. thanks for the list!! checked it.. and found some merrick food, just to see, but the carbs are 11-12% for ex.. that ok? thought 10% was the most suggested?.. ugh idk. ๐Ÿ˜ช๐Ÿ’˜

tysm for that.. its ugh ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’˜โค๏ธ it truly is, And ive been pulling my hair about it and no one would listenโ€ฆโ€ฆ. just ๐Ÿ˜‘โ€ฆโ€ฆ im actually trying to decide on a supplement and i read about a little anout the Aminavast u suggested.. hm!!!! โœจ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ ty! im also considering the Gold Kidney Support frm PetWellbeing.. he supposedly had high liver values when first diagnosed.. i put him on their Thistle (was suggested here) and his values are great nowโ€ฆ.. โœจ๐ŸŽ‡

I am very sorry to hear that Pudge is struggling. I have (and have had several cats with kidney disease.) can you/would you care to post Pudgeโ€™s labs here? What was the Urine Specific Gravity? Phosphorus? BUN? CREATININE? Other labs? No sign of a urinary tract infection? What was his white blood cell count? Neutrophil count (absolute neutrophils) Hematocrot (HCT or PCV?)

It sounds like, if he is urinating a lot and os quite thirsty that he needs subcutaneous fluids daily. This can really help him to feel better.

My heart goes out to you.

THANK U ALL for the suggestions and encouragement.. big hugs frm us. ๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’˜

i been contemplating all the supplement suggestions and was also considering one frm the same place we get his Thistle, Pet Wellbeing, also got a Kidney support and was thinking to maybe add this one also.. their Thistle well it was supposedly high and now their very goodโ€ฆ. โœจ

anyone use it or got a opinion?

I would HIGHLY recommend reading the felinecrf.org website. It is a bible for chronic kidney disease. And I recommend joining the support group. They are very knowledgeable on CKD and very supportive. I would read about these supplements on the site and ask questions on the support group on groups.io. I had been considering AminAvast for my cat with advanced renal disease but I read that the ingredients could be harmful to a cat with advanced renal disease. On the Tanyackd support group there are those who have used Astroโ€™s Oil โ€” also the felinecrf.org site talks about it.

tysm!!! ๐Ÿ’˜๐Ÿ’– appreciate it.. settling on a supplement rn..

how are things w the trial going!! (right?! on trial!!!? ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜..)
Oh he's officially been in remission a little bit now. It's been weeks OTJ and his last test on human meter was 65 on the 28th. But I know the feeling of being overwhelmed and feeling of 'What ifs'. While I was so concerned with dealing with Nico, his sister Angel (who was diagnosed with intestinal cancer a week after his diabetes in October), she fell through the cracks. And now she's worse than ever in just a short time and it looks like I'm going to have to say goodbye to her soon. All because I focused on him.:(
So I get it. And I'm sorry you're dealing with and being overwhelmed too. It really does suck.

I took your advice and been on there.. ๐Ÿ’ž I have to admit its confusing and I am having a really hard time navigating.. maybe my brain can't take no more rn. :( idk.. but doing my best. did do some reading. the forum is confusing for me too... terrible. someone got back to me and had good experience with the Kidney Gold.. others here told me on a few other options too. there.. read the pages on supplements and of course nothing came back definitive.. sigh. trying to get the labs in tonite..

It does, and it's rough. But it's what I signed up for. I do rescue on my own, though my son helps me sometimes with either cats or wildlife.
I adopt out what I can, but no one wants the sick and elderly. It's why I always have so many. And in truth, it's been a long time since I only had 7.๐Ÿ˜…
