? 12/31 Kai AMPS 544, +2 434, +6 318, PMPS 224, +2 144, +4 58, +4.75 67,+5.5 102

I was adding some food notes to my 2025 sheet. I like how Tim has his feeding schedule row on Pookey's spreadsheet and wanted to add something similar to Kai's sheet. But it got me thinking about the two different cans of food that I give Kai. His AM meal is Weruva Paw Lickin' Chicken (Carb%3) and his PM meal is Weruva Amazon Livin' (Carb%9). There is a big difference in carbs between his AM and PM meals. Is that okay?

Started with a yellow 224 pre-shot tonight. So far so good with 144 at +2 and a snack on the belly :) We will test again at +4.

It was around this time last year that I woke up to a very hypo kitty in distress and spent the next day in the ER. I pray that is not how we or anyone else starts this new year  Kai and I have come a long away since then and have learned a lot. I am very thankful for everyone here on the forum and I wish you all a happy New year! God speed! And may you all have a nice and calm start to the new year :cat:

Nice start, maybe a green is in the cards tonight :)

I can’t remember, do you have a reason to feed the different carb percentages? I could see the higher % food having an impact on insulin needs, not sure how big of an impact though.

No, no reason for the two different carb %.
The reason we landed on Paw Lickn Chicken(3%) and Amazon Livin(9%) is because they are heavily chicken based out of all the other WERUVA classic flavors. At the time, Kai liked those the best over the fish flavors when we were switching to an all wet diet. Getting him completely off the dry food was a struggle for us. So I just went with the two least resistance options and ran with it lol. Both flavors met all of the protein, fat, carb, and phosphorus recommendations. I have a tab on Kai's sheet called Food Research where i selected and compared different brands of food and flavors. But I didn't realize the big difference in carb % between the two until today. So I was curious if anyone might have some insight on whether or not the difference in carb% between the AM and PM meals could have a big impact. And should i get rid of the 9% and find a new flavor in the 2-5% carb range.

Some cats are more carb sensitive than others, so ECID in this as well. We generally recommend feeding below 5% carbs.

You might want to use the 9% when he dives and you want to slow him down and flatten the curve.

So like tonight's +4 reading lol... is that a terrible dive? I'll feed him another snack of the 9% and then test in 30 min to see if he is rising. And I'll also pick ups some less than 5% cans tomorrow for us to start trying. Thank you, Bhooma!

You want to feed higher carbs earlier in the cycle when insulin action is stronger. Later in the cycle, it generally takes less carbs to boost numbers/keep numbers flat. Next time, you want to feed the 9% at +2 because of the drop and also because bounce clearing cycles have greater downward momentum.

Gotcha! That makes sense. I'll remember that for next time. Thank you!

Maddie, have you tried Tiki After Dark? They are low carb. Jude will eat the pates, which are low carb, but he's not as fond of the non-pates (same flavors, but one is a pate and the other is similar to the PawLickinChicken--like, shredded chicken--he says no to it). Interestingly, I have five inside cats and two outside ferals, and NONE of them like the PawLickinChicken. Strange. Because it looks so good to me that I'm tempted to eat it. The Tiki proteins are much better than FF pates, but Jude prefers the FF (of course he does). Prior to his diagnosis, I was a DIE-HARD food snob, and wouldn't have considered FF, but it is such a low carb alternative, and Jude likes it, so it's frequently in our rotation. I feed Weruva to my inside non-diabetic cats. It's a good food.

:bookworm: Oh Boy! We have not tried the After Dark flavors yet, we tried some of the Luau flavors in the early stages of switching to wet food and Kai wasn't a fan so I probably gave up too early on the Tiki Cat brand. Since then I can tell that Kai's taste buds have expanded. The After Dark line has so many non-fish flavors! That will be a great place to start trying, thank you for the suggestion! And you are right the proteins are way better than most! I think I will grab one of the After Dark 2.8oz can variety packs tomorrow and start taste testing. I also have some outdoor kitties that me and my entire neighborhood feed  so whatever Kai dosen't like i can give to them... they will eat anything lol:cat:
