kittens gone for good now so Alska only has bad civvie to contend with. I have to start marching back his shot time since I go back to work on Thursday. I haven't been there since they fired my BF. Haven't seen or heard from him since he took off for midwest on Dec 20th. For all I know he could be lying dead in a ditch somewhere off some icey road.

I will be glad when this year is over. The only good thing about 2013 was finding Alska and this forum.

Sorry for all the troubles you've been going through. :YMHUG: The one good thing about bad years is that there's an end in sight. And Alska's just as happy that you found him and this forum.

Sure hope BF is ok and you hear from him soon.

Alska enjoying the sunshine today. :-D

Alska is in isolation for a long time now. I finally got the new chair to replace the peed upon one and he has been soooo good using the litterboxes. Then he gets up and walks across it and looks and me and squats. Lucky for him I have been covering it with a folded blanket. If he had gotten thru to the chair then I probably would have put a carrier in his room for him to stare at. Thats how mad I will be if he ruins this chair so he is locked in his room indefinately for his own safety.

Might I suggest plastic chair covers given his unpredictability, with a wipe down of Feliway, plus a diffuser in the room?

Agree with BJM, I hear that spray and plug in helps a lot of kitties. Some kitties will do things like that just out of anxiety and that stuff is supposed to help, from the reviews I've seen.

I bought a spray to help Lucian calm down when I had to 'burrito' him in the beginning testing stages. Don't know if it helped, maybe some. Supposed to help anxiety, called Nature's Miracle Calming Spray.

A lot of people swear by the Feliway though.

Good suggestion. I will order a Feliway plug-in. I don't know why he was anxious. He was asleep on his chair and woke up, walked across the couch and then while crossing the chair he stopped to squat - no civvie in sight, just me eating dinner.

I have a large plastic bag that I can drape over the chair but civvies disturb it. If I could get Bing to stay in the chair all day that would be good too. Or I could only let Alska out when I can add supervise. That might be the best solution.

Just like people, cats can have anxiety disorders. Think of it as a bit of a short circuit in the brain. It isn't anything you did, its just the way he is built.

Maybe give active play sessions of 15-20 minutes before meals a shot. It helps kick up the appetite, relieves some stress, and improves the bond beteen you.

Environmental enrichment may help too - cat trees, boxes to get in, puzzle toys with low carb treats in them are some ideas.

Also, if active play and enrichment don't help, you might talk with the vet about this as there are some meds that can be useful for anxiety disorders.

Alska does not play. He has no interest in toys or boxes. I have tried many things. He likes to be brushed. I do notice a scratch on his nose so it is clear that Brio is causing the anxiety. I think I will keep him in his room while I am at work to give him some peace - at least until Spring when doggie door can be opened for civvies. Then he can use his LB without looking over his shoulder. I also ordered the Feliway plugins and spray.

Thank you all for these suggestions.
