Good Fursday, Everyone,

Good night for Rusty, but I heard him eating before we got up so I'm pretty sure the AMPS 141 is partially attributable to food. It could also be partially attributable to stress: it took 6 tries to get blood out of his ear and he was very uncomfortable with the whole process. Yesterday I tried the BD lancets and the new Accu-check Soft touch lancet device without any success, so this morning I went back to the old (Kinney's) lancets and my old lancet device and had a really bad test! Oh well, it will get better. The shot this morning was good, but I still am not sure how to measure a "fat" 0.25. Maybe I'll have better luck trying for a "skinny" 0.5?

Rusty and I had a rousing play with Big Bug and the green cube; also played with Red Ears and his string. Breakfast has been served (Wellness chicken) and partially eaten, since he ate his "nighttime" food not too long ago. 4 Ps thus far.

Edward is baking Hungarian potato bread for our New Year's Eve party tomorrow night (it needs to sit a day). I'm about to clean the house. Rusty is preparing for the arrival of all the kitties. The barn is being readied for the festivities.

Everyone have a good day,

Ella
Hey all kitties! Tomorrow night is New Year's Eve at my place. We can party in the barn and have barn dancing and singing. We can watch the midnight fireworks. We can invite the deer family to party with us. We can eat wonderful food. Everyone invited. Mannie will have the bus with snow tires and will pick you all up. See you tomorrow!

Re: 12/30 Rusty AMPS 141

Great post today and sorry you're having a rough time with the testing. So now which of you is it, that is RUSTY, huh??? LOL!!

The bread sounds delicious!! Sooty says I was born a barn kitten, so a party in the barn sounds brilliant !!!

Re: 12/30 Rusty AMPS 141

I'm happy that Rusty is doing so well. Sorry about the testing though. I know you've had lots of advice, so I won't add any. I just hope it will get better. Thank you for checking in with us so often yesterday. It really helps me to know that others are there. I hope you have a wonderful day, Ella.

Re: 12/30 Rusty AMPS 141

I bought the relion meter and it came with 30g lancets. I'm thinking of using them without the lancet device. Its probably much easier than holding the lancet device. Its just a gentle poke. Right now I'm using 25g needle tips from the vet. But the smaller gauge lancets are probably much kinder to his ears.

I'm with you about the preshot number - most probably the food :)

Re: 12/30 Rusty AMPS 141

Morning Ella, and Rusty! Happy Fursday. :-D

I am with you on the F.25 dose - how I struggle with that one.... Mannie's now a F2.75 - what a hassle... I try for consistency - but that one is tough. you have my sympathies! I too use the lancet free hand - no device. I find it easier - just a little poke, I can see where I am poking - no hassle... works for me.

That bread sounds so divine.... YUM!

Rusty - we are so ready! I can't wait for tomorrow night...  I am rally excited to meet the deer family - I've never seen one of those before. Hmmmmmm we need party fuds. Good fuds... working on that. ~~ Mannie

Re: 12/30 Rusty AMPS 141, +5 87

Hi again. Big news: Rusty had his first hairball (since he's been here) while we were out this morning. He was very excited when we returned and wanted to tell us something. Then I discovered the hairball (not a giganticus, just a normalicus!). (sorry for fractured Latin) We praised him for drawing our attention to it. Then he ate some Wellness turkey.

Hum... I don't know what those 'breads' taste like but sounds good...

Rusty is doing good today... and a green..

Frip's ears almost bleed on their own now.. I wonder if some cats ears bleed easier than others...

Re: 12/30 Rusty AMPS 141, +5 87

Still really nice numbers for Rusty. Do you have an auto feeder that can rotate to an empty space? That's why I went w/ the 5 compartment, so i wouldn't have to get up 2 hours early! Sorry the BDs didn't work for you. I've never had luck w/ a device, I freehand holding the lancet at about 45º.

Rusty, is the barn big? And places to climb and explore? Ooooooooo! I can't wait! -- Tess

Re: 12/30 Rusty AMPS 141, +5 87, PMPS 106

Hi again,
We tried again with the BD lancets and the new lancet device and had good tests both times. Let's hope it continues! Still having trouble measuring the "fat" 0.25!!! I think I gave a "regular" both shots today.
Ann, yes, I have one of those rotary feeders (hate it!). Rusty has never eaten out of it. Stu got his head stuck a couple of times when it didn't turn all the way. So I got the 2-compartment pop-up kind. Stu used that pretty well. I put small dishes in the compartments and Rusty uses it as a tray, since he is really used to free feeding. Maybe I've been putting out too much food at night and it lasts too long!.
Yes, the barn is big (actually it was the former owner's woodworking workshop; we just call it the barn). It'll be the perfect place for a party!

Tess, I'll see you tomorrow. I've got all my pots and pans and am ready for instructions.

Ella: oh the bread sounds wonderful!!!! I bet it will be a huge hit at your NY Eve party!!! We just started using the BD lancets after I read it by Ann in your condo and we like them SO much better than what we were using (Relions....same gauge). They seem super sharp. Glad Rusty is doing so well...what a guy!!!

Rusty...I'm so excited we are having the party in your barn!! Tobey and I want to help decorate and, of course, you and I will be in the kitchen with the other Sous Chef, Tess, and NCIC Mannie...it's going to be a really fun time!! Maybe we can sneak some of your daddybean's bread!!

Re: 12/30 Rusty AMPS 141, +5 87, PMPS 106

Nice PMPS, Rusty is so consistent. I'm glad the testing went better, but sorry about the feeder problem.

Rusty, your barn sounds so kewl! I've never been in a barn, there must be lots to explore! Can we play hide and seek? -- Tess

Re: 12/30 Rusty AMPS 141, +5 87, PMPS 106

Nice PMPS for Rusty! I'm glad the testing is going more smoothly. I know, for myself, it's easy to get all worked up about how many times I've poked and that surely doesn't help. I hope the testing/feeding situations get better.

I love that Rusty wanted to show off his hairball! What a funny guy. :-D

Re: 12/30 Rusty AMPS 141, +5 87, PMPS 106

HA! Binks is purebred, but his mama escaped the breeder's clutches 2 days before the kits arrived, and holed up out by the horses.

So when i say to him "geez...binks...manners! Were you born in a barn??" he just gives me a smug look...no reply necessary!

party in a barn is right up his alley!

nice start to rusty's evening...
