everything's breaking! i ordered a new lancet device a couple of days ago because it hasn't been making good contact - it's like it isn't coming all the way when it's popping out. then i've gotten way too many error messages in the past couple of days (we love wasting strips) and last night it totally died. i wanted to test him about 11:30pm at his +5 but went through several strips and only got error messages.

while i was struggling to get the pmps my husband said something that implied it was "user error" which nearly made my head pop off! grr_red so at 11:30 i happily let him try multiple times and apparently, IT'S THE METER, not user error. ;-) not to say i made a big deal of that one, but, well, i'm not a saint.

so we shot him blindly this morning - dropped it to 4 instead of the usual 5.25 so hopefully he's ok. i'll have a new meter before his nadir anyway.

DH probably doesnt realize he made a narrow escape!

Re: 12/30 punkin meter died

I agree, Celi, because he wouldn't have said something about "user error" in the first place.  You are a saint, Julie.

Re: 12/30 punkin meter died

Any thought about getting a "back-up" meter. (I have 2 additional meters, both the same as the one I use so if the meter dies or I do something clever like drop it in water, I can still use my strips.)

Re: 12/30 punkin meter died

he just tried to "help" me by telling me how he does it. but i know him well enough to know he was telling me i was doing something wrong and it was my fault i kept getting error messages. after 10 months i think i can use a meter & test strip now. perhaps i was too sensitive.

Re: 12/30 punkin meter died

have you tried a new battery? it's not unsual for some meters to throw error messages before the battery dies.
like sienne, we have a back-up meter that's the same so we can use the same strips. we also keep a couple extra batteries on hand.

Re: 12/30 punkin meter died

Don't we love backseat testers!?! I've noticed in my life that there seem to be periods of stuff revolt. It just all goes at the same time!

Re: 12/30 punkin meter died

hmmm, i'll try a battery first. i've replaced it once, but it's possible it's been long enough for a new battery to be needed. supposedly there's a different symbol that says "low battery" but that's an inexpensive enough thing to try.

now i'm trying to recall where i found a replacement battery. wasn't at the jewelry store that i tried (thinking watch batteries) - i wonder where it was. curse this middle-aged brain. it's like there's swiss cheese in there!

Re: 12/30 punkin meter died

I almost had a heart attack in my sleepy state until I read the meter part. I have the Relion Micro as a back-up.

Re: 12/30 punkin +2/251

oh ann, sorry!!!!! *whew* no, he's quite alive!

it was the battery! *sighs* i had an idea where i'd bought it so i went there after dropping DH at work. sure enough, got the batteries (2) and went to the register, where i realized my $$ and debit card were in yesterday's pants. ohmygod_smile someone shoot me now. drove back home (without my wallet), retrieved my brain and went back to the store.

and wouldn't you know it - it's like a monsoon outside. i'm soaked, but the meter works.

NOW all is well in punkinland. :-D

Re: 12/30 punkin +2/251

In any case, he didn't miss his breffis! Glad everything is working now.

ETA: Anne is wondering, if you happen to find our brains, could you please send them home? We will pm you with our address because they probably have forgotten it.

Re: 12/30 punkin +2/251

Phew - what a morning! I haven't had a battery die yet, but I accidentally dropped something heavy on Trix's meter late one night...didn't find out it was broken until AMPS. What a tizzy I was in! I had been meaning to get a back up, but never got around to it. Needless to say, I now have THREE back up meters  ! (Maybe you should warn DH that you're going to start looking for a back up DH, too! !)

Glad to hear that all is well in PunkinLand after your exciting start - and I hope all remains calm now!

if i can remember it when i see them, i'll be happy to! :-D

now that the meter is working, all is well and the day was uneventful.

I'm so sorry Julie but I have to say this is the funniest condo of the day....

"Backseat testers" OMG!!!

Did you know when we were newbies and I had been up ALL night testing, I microwaved the meter instead of the rice sock? eeewwww...did it stink and it was my only meter; I was standing at the door to CVS when they opened at 7 am to get a new OT and
rush home (2 mins away) to TFS only 15 mins past my normal time. Now I also have a backup OT and also a Contour.

Glad it was just the batttry!! And thanks for the laughs!!
