Using the new Relion Contour meter today. I'm home all day to watch him if needed. The micro dosing is painful. I wake up 15 minutes early and spend most of that time figuring out if I've drawn it right. I know consistency is key. I think he's more at .25 than a skinny .5 though. It seems harder to draw the syringe without that darn bubble too - no matter how I press the plunger in before putting it into the cartridge and no matter how slowly I draw back the plunger.

Coffee maker didn't brew this morning - the steal a cup feature is annoying when it prevents the coffee from dripping into the pot ohmygod_smile Having to wait for a new pot now. ~O) ~O) ~O)

Happy Thursday everyone.

:thumbup GRReat AMPS #!
Don't worry too much about what your shooting - just as long as you are consistent with what you are shooting.. you are stressing yourself out needlessly ;-)
Wishing you both an enjoyable day!

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72

You're still drawing excess insulin from the pen, aren't you? As long as you're over-filling the syringe, you shouldn't have any more difficulty than before when it comes to dealing with the bubbles.

Great start for Maverick today.

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72

I had some syringes (Publix generics) that no matter what I did, I just couldn't get rid of the bubble (and wasted a ton of insulin too, overfilling, flicking, squeeze some out, flick some more, etc etc.. that darn bubble just stuck there and the insulin just squeezed out past it! We ditched them in favor of BD syringes and with those I can always get any bubble out, first try...
Not advertising here, just relaying experience...!! I haven't tried the Hocks.com ones yet, but maybe, next order...!??

ETA: (Stupid me! forgot to say): NICE START to today for Maverick!! - have a great day!

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72

Thanks guys. Yep I'm drawing excess and then slowly pushing out drops to try and get the right dose. Wasting insulin but he's on such a small dose the insulin would go bad before we used it all anyways. He's a chatty kathy this morning. Really interactive

Off to read condos.

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72

when u draw the insulin from the vial, see if there is a bubble on the tip of the needle.if there is,turn the vial so its air, then turn back up your air bubble on the needle will be gone. after that when yu put the needle in the vial push the plunger again, any air bubbles on the needle tip once again turn the vial to where there is air and that will remove the air bubble. once yu have drawn your insulin u can pull a little excess insulin in. take the needle out of the vial hold it straight up.pull the plunger down about a 1/3rd of the way down, then push the plunger back up to the dose yu are looking for. if yu have to plink the barrel with your finger. usually if yu pull the plunger down about a 1/3 of the way down and then push back up u can get alot if not all bubbles out.u may have to repeat it a few times

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72

Beautiful amps for Maverick this morning. He is just doing great! :-D Good luck with the microdosing - I know what a challenge it can be. Thanks for checking in on us yesterday. I hope you have a wonderful day off, Karrie!

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72 - cube in Canada?

You guys are the best. Thank you. I'll try it out tonight.

Just curious where you guys get these cubes if you are in Canada. I've read all about them and how much cats love them but Walmart up here doesn't have them. I'd love to get one for Maverick. His mobility really sucks because of arthritis but he loves being in boxes. I think he'd love the cube.

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72 - cube in Canada?

I purchased mine on-line via Amazon but I think they get them from Target. I don't know if that helps given you're in Canada. If you search "cat cubes" on Amazon, you'll see several types that are now available (and weren't when I first ordered. If you don't have Target or can't get them via Amazon, check the manufacturer and contact them to see where they may be sold.

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72 - cube in Canada?

Hi Karrie, I got my latest cube at Kinney Drugs. Ann (Tess) found the same cube at CVS pharmacy. Walgreens has them, too. And Target stores. Check your local pharmacy. Also, you can order them on Amazon. This link is for the set of 2. Google "cat cube" to see others.

I find that if I forcefully hold in the plunger when I am inserting it into the insulin cartridge and then draw out more than I need, slowly, I don't get bubbles. Then, twist (don't push) the plunger until you get what you think is your dose. Twisting is more accurate than pushing.

Hope this helps.

OK Bubbles are a fact of life around here, we all have bubble issues & we all hate them!--Turn the plunger when you are dispelling the bubbles after you have tapped them to the top--Oh well, try your best  ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile
As far as measuring the dose, use reading glasses & magnifying glass--I'm thinking of my new invention--Microscope glasses for microdoses   If Only!!
Just do your best, as you have been..Look at that Beautiful AMPS TODAY!!!!!!!! WHOOO HOOOO
Have a good Fursday!

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72 - cube in Canada?

Morning Karrie - you must be doing something right, Maverick's SS looks great. excellent start on today, too.

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72 - cube in Canada?

Maverick is looking really good...

I know I saw the cubes somewhere.. I'll try to remember... I think they are too small for my Frip !?! don't know if they have them in large size?

Re: 12/30 Maverick AMPS 72 +5 70- cube in Canada?

The cubes are made by Sport Pet, Google Sport Pet + cube. They are about 14" square and should be plenty big enough.

I placed an order on Amazon. I got the double cube one *clapping* Rather than paying a surprise customs fee like the last time, I'm going to drive the two hours to Ogdensburg UPS and pick up the package there. I ordered a few other things that I can't get up in Canada also. I wish I could remember anything else I should have ordered. For $5 they'll hold a package a week. Too bad I have 200 Relion test strips or I'd get some at the Walmart while I was there.

It looks like it will be something he'll use.

Hi Kerrie,

I hope Maverick likes his cubes when he gets them. My cats take turns sitting in it. I'm glad you were able to order them. Does he still play with his catnip tube?

You are doing a great job on micro dosing! Maverick's #'s look fantastic!
And yes we all are at war with the bubbles. grr_red

Have a good night.

jan and sara :-D

He is back to the greens all day it seems

Maverick can't jump so he won't be getting on top of any of these cubes even if he wanted to ;) Just a place to hang out - enrichment. I like the look of that cube you linked to. Yep the UPS store over the border in Ogdensburg USA allows us Canadians to ship there. I have to drive there (2 hours each way) to pick the stuff up though. I hate being hit with customs fees - 60$ last time I ordered something from amazon.com. I wish Amazon.ca was as awesome as the US one. I ordered a Kindle also which I can't seem to buy up here.
