Good luck on the dose increase. Hope you see some blues again soon.
Thank you for caring..the world could certainly use more people like u. What a comforting feeling here. However, I do wonder still about Lantus being a 24 hour insulin. I have so many questions that I'd like to get answers for. For example, such as dr. Lisa went to the extent of researching the carbohydrate in cat food and its importance, I wonder has any veterinarian researched in depth diabetes? Or has anyone ever tested using Lantus on a 24-hour schedule? Stuff like that constantly runs thru my mind..

I think with Lantus being a depot insulin that sometimes your get that "longer" lasting affect. Is that consistent?...hard to say because we are adjusting doses as we go. I am pretty sure it is the same with humans. I have a friend that has a pump. She puts in her test numbers and it adjusts the dose as she goes about her day.

As for research, as far as companion health has come in the last two decades, I don't think there is the right backing for understanding some of the diseases our companions get. Why is kidney disease so rampant in kitty's from the age 10 and on? Why is cancer so pervasive in our companion animals? Like us, is it diet? If so, we think we are doing better at that so why isn't it working? As for as diabetes, more than half the vets don't seem to have a good grasp on what it is never mind how to help with it. Unless the insulin manufactures (because face it, drug companies have a lot of power) want to research it, it doesn't seem to be a priority. As caregivers as well, we have changed our focus. We want to do more in the care of animals and not just PTS our friends. In this day and age of the internet, information sharing has become a very big component of changing the way we think. Knowledge truly is power.

That all said, one of the vets at the clinic I go to said it best (paraphrasing a bit here) - we have done a better job of making our pets live longer, but we haven't necessarily done a good job of understanding the impact of that. As owners allow us to do more tests we are now diagnosing issues more. Then we need to figure out how to treat it all. And as always, it is up to what the owners are willing to do (pay) for that care.

She is amazed that I put in the effort I do. She figured Jones would be gone by now. My Sadie lasted two years longer then she thought she would. Explains why I am on a first name basis with most of the front end staff and the vet techs.

I know if I could start over with a puppy or small kitten, I would do so many things differently. With diet being # 1 change, I would make my own. I have done that with my old pup Sadie and I tried with Jones. Dogs seem easier to switch then cats. The other would be the vaccinations, I would get the recommended ones for the first year, then titre test from there on in. I really believe we have over vaccinated our companion animals and put their immune system under undo stress.

And that is the end of my rant for today!

Omg!! I could not agree with you more you have said that exquisitely perfectly and just so so well said not to mention true! Hallelujah! It is so nice, so very strangely nice, to have met someone who is on the EXACT same page as myself. Wow! Kudos to u girlie, I couldn't have said that myself! But you are so right in every word and I just can't get over having had a medical doctor as a stepfather, that the research on that disease diabetes which has been around since dirt, is so lacking. But then again, my brother who works for a pharmaceutical company of course that I need to mention make six figures a year in the advertising Department no less, and that is the culprit of our price and what we pay and I believe that there's so much more known that we don't know and it's just a hands-on experience for us which is why I value the so much and you're right to start over again it will be different. I believe God has his reasons for leading us to and fro and I know that nothing is coincidence, that being said, everything always works together for good

much more known that we don't know

That is so true. The body (human, animal etc) is an amazing precise machine. Makes you wonder what happens to make everything go off the rails? I understand the concept of old age and the systems wearing down but it seems like instances of disease are happening earlier and earlier in the aging process. So what is up?

We do the best we can and hope we do better than before.:)

Guess what? I just did a plus 5 and got 171! Excellent. And as far as you mentioning the ailments, both human and animal, happening earlier and earlier, I have said many times over that my grandmother and great-grandmother used to use lard and sugar and real butter back in the day LOL and both lived in their late 90s. Now I have owned two dog grooming shops since 1992, and Through the Years I've seen many skin conditions on dogs and cats mostly dogs though and truthfully in my opinion I have to chalk it up to Environmental causes. Look at Chemlawn and several other lawn spraying companies using various chemicals. I'm thinking bingo LOL. But as I was mentioning earlier, these companies just want us to spend more so they make more period. I mean another instance is insulin in and of itself has been around since dirt also, why is it near $300 for a vial you know

Ok!!! So far, so good. I can see an immediate change (for the better) in her behavior 2day. That 210 we got 2nite is only 11 points more than a blue, and quite further from a damn pink! So I thank God for the blessings
