Good morning LL! Quite the exciting morning around here. There was some pukus in the dining room when I got up, probably Zener but I don't know. Then we get a 132 at +12. Whoa. I checked 20 mins later and it was 139 so I fed and shot. Then he puked. Hmm. Waited about 20 mins and fed a little bit. That stayed down. Tested at +1, 141. Nice. Gave him 2.5 mg of Pepcid in 1/3 of a pill pocket, thinking that may settle his stomach. I've been suspecting for awhile that those PPs were raising his BG and it sure looked like it yesterday. Anne checked Dr. Lisa's web pages and she suggested using just part of a PP to give pills because of the carbs. My understanding is the duck and pea flavor does't have sugar (like the other flavors) but does have carbs. She also said do NOT dry pill a cat (which we were doing before the PPs  ). Sometimes Zener has the worst beans. Good thing he is so resilient.

He is very happy that Anne has moved the ground feeder onto the patio for winter viewing. He and Tillie both love being so close to those birdies and they know they could get one if the door was open.

Thinking of Jill and DH and sending them healing energy for DH's complete recovery. Also thinking of others in LL who are ailing and recovering.

No more pukus. The appetite is not as good as normal but he is eating. Right now he's sleeping on Versailles. I'll have to post the pictures of how I made it safe for him to get up there. Supposed to snow all day and night. I have to go shovel and roof rake!

Sorry about the pukus, that's never the best way to start the day, but wow look at those pretty numbers on Zener!!!!!!!! And I love the pic, how cute of Zener to be watching over the birdies. What a good guy!

Nice numbers to start the day! Sorry about the pukus though...hopefully the pepsid did the trick!

Zener is lucky to have both of you. Please don't beat yourself up over the pill pockets....now you know, you can't go back and change it, so just move forward. I use the duck and pea, dog capsule formula....more cost effective!

Nice curve management last night....keep surfing, Zener!

Re: 12/3 Zener AMPS 139 pukus;+1 141;+2 163;+3 164 A Trak pi

I can't imagine snow already! Loved the picture! Sorry poor Zener is having an upset stomach today and hoping the pepcid is helping. Definitely much lower numbers this morning.

I thought the pill pocket duck and pea were alright to give. I have been giving Simon his pepcid in it and also as a treat. I didn't realize they were also high in carbs.

Question: when Dr. Lisa says not to "dry pill", is it ok to give the pill and syringe water after the pill goes down? I also follow up with a treat for her to swallow. Cleo refuses to eat any type of medication in her food and she doesn't like pill pockets.

Re: 12/3 Zener AMPS 139 pukus;+1 141;+2 163;+3 164 A Trak pi

Aw, Zener has the best beans! Don't beat yourselves up about the pill pockets, you were doing what you thought was best to get him his meds. Sending no more pukus and good appetite vines your way.

Pill pockets worked with Bailey exactly once. (She takes Prozac for anxiety that causes LB issues) We have to use the burrito method, shove the pill in the back of her mouth & squirt a few mls of water in to wash it down. I felt bad about it at first but she is used to it now and doesn't seem too bothered by it.

I love the pic, my kitties have the same wintertime hobby

Zener is still feeling punk, like his tummy is upset, eating small amounts but not with much enthusiasm.

@Lisa - we sure wish Zener felt like watching the birds today, with the snow we're having, the feeder is very busy.

@Jaq - Zener is such a good guy, even when he feels pukus punk.

@Laurie - thanks for your kind support about the pill pockets and for the info on the dog formula! Zener surfed for a bit and now seems to be bouncing, or higher numbers from not feeling so good.

@Georgia - yes, Dr Lisa says using syringe water after a pill is just fine. On her website is a short video of the size of the pieces of a pill pocket she uses to give pills, it's very cute watching the kitty gobble them up!

@Melissa - thanks for your kind words and support. We have paws crossed Zener' s appetite will be better tonight.

Re: 12/3 Zener AMPS 139 pukus;+1 141;+3 164;+4 200;+6 290 AT

I hope Zener's tummy feels better soon. A pukey morning is the pits. I also hope this little bounce is cleared quickly. Bouncing on an upset tummy can't be fun.

Re: 12/3 Zener AMPS 139 pukus;+1 141;+3 164;+4 200;+6 290 AT

Sending Zener healing vines....I'm so sorry about the pukus lately. Glad to see his numbers came down for you a bit....stop where you are Zener!!!

I use the duck/pea pill pockets for Gracie and the only time I could tell that it affected her numbers is at the end of her cycle so I try to avoid using them then. I do only use 1/2 of one.

Brrrrrr on the snow but that was so wonderful of Anne to move the feeder so Zener and Tillie could have some viewing pleasure since he can't get to his picnic table.

Have a great day and hope he feels better.

Re: 12/3 Zener AMPS 139 pukus;+1 141;+3 164;+4 200;+6 290 AT

I hope Zener feels better soon. sending healing vines for his tummy to settle down.

I also use the duck and pea pp. I just bought the dog ones since they price is so much better. The cat duck and pea says 3 cal. per pocket so that is pretty minimal as far as anything goes. The dog pp duck and pea are huge compared to the cat version and those say 20 cal per pp. If you give a small piece of one it is also minimal for carbs.

Re: 12/3 Zener AMPS 139 pukus;+1 141;+3 164;+4 200;+6 290 AT

Hi Anne, so sorry Zener's tummy is upset. I hope soon he will be back to his ole self. That'a really cute pic of him taking in the view, and he looks very focused, not missing a beat! :-D It looks like you have a good dusting of snow. Feel better Zener.

After a pukus, but low blue, start to the morning, Zener felt pretty punk. Late afternoon, and after a 2nd dose of pepcid, using pieces of a pill pocket rather than whole ones, he started feeling better. Having the emergency garage door repairman working on our door did not help! The kitties spent most of the afternoon under the bed!

We tried a new food tonight with Zener, Fancy Feast classic turkey and giblets. He went after it enthusiastically. Time will tell if it was a one time thing, or if he really will like it. According to the food charts, the carbs are 3%. This would be the lowest carbs he has eaten, if correct! It seems too good to be true. This is off the older Janet's food chart, does anyone know if this is still the correct carbs?

@Linda - the big guy is feeling better tonight and we have paws crossed this bounce clears as quickly as the last one!

@Marje - unfortunately, Zener did not follow your most excellent advice to stop increasing but the healing vines worked wonderfully! Thanks for the info on when you use the pockets and how much. We've had about a foot of snow today, so spent quite a bit of our day shoveling, roof raking and waiting for the garage repair service.

@Rosalie - thank you for the info on the pp for dogs. We are using the duck and pea ones for cats and we were just using too much. And now we know!

@Ann - Zener loves to watch the birds. We have multiple viewing spots for him and feeders to bring them close for better watching. If our kitties were skillful hunters, we would feel bad about luring them to the kitties, but Zener is limited in his hunting skills because of his CH. He is feeling much better this evening, thanks for the good wishes!

Our dusting of snow turned out to be about another 8" on top of 6" already on the ground. It was a nice light fluffy snow, so we managed with the snow shovels and did not have to crank up the snow blower! It all looks very holiday festive here with the nice covering of snow and cold, crisp air!

Hope everyone has a good Caturday evening!

Sorry to hear about the barfing today, i hope that business has cleared up and Zener's feeling better. Nice numbers from Zener this morning, but yucky PMPS, i hope he comes back down a little tonight.

Wow on the snow! :o Who knew you got snow like that in Flagstaff?!?!

Zener is on the express train!

PMPS 401, 17th cycle @s1.25u, 1.35oz 3% FF classic turkey & giblets
+1.5 335, 0.8oz 11%

And he is feeling much better this evening. His appetite is improved and he is asking for food! :-D Big drop between his PMPS and +1.5. We waited a little to get his first test since he ate a little more shortly after his PMPS. Since, he dropped 65-ish, we've gone up to the 11% carbs.

@Tracy - we are relieved he is feeling better! And yes, we can get lots of snow in Flagstaff. It is all about altitude here and we are at 7000 feet. Most people think of the desert and the cactus as Arizona but we have mountains too! Our average annual snowfall in town is 100 inches and we love the snow!

More tests and feedings to come, it's a wild Saturday night in the wild, wild west!

Re: 12/3 Zener PMPS 401;~1 335;~2 298 food carb? AT pic

Sometimes Zener has the worst beans. Good thing he is so resilient.

i think anyone who has raised kids thinks the same thing sometimes - you kick yourself for whatever dumb thing you did and somehow they survive in spite of our best efforts! in one of my particularly low moments i slapped my eldest's face when she was about 11 and really making me furious - then i started crying because i was so ashamed of myself for hitting her. *sigh* fortunately she's now 25 and next to me - we both survived. i think you're both terrific with zener. *pats on your backs* where would he be without you?

my understanding is the ff turkey & giblets is closer to 8% - it got reformulated according to a conversation on FDMB a while ago, maybe 2 months. i don't remember who did the research, but someone looked into it and reported that it was higher than it used to be.

love the picture of zener by the bird feeder. we have several outside of our living room window and there's a fair amount of birdy traffic there every day. punkin doesn't watch much any more, but anya watches some.

Re: 12/3 Zener PMPS 401;~1 335;~2 298 food carb? AT pic

@ Julie - thank you for the information on the FF turkey and giblets classic. I also saw somewhere else here on FDMB it is 7% now instead of 3%. Still, we are delighted he is eating something lower carb! Thanks for the kind words! And how wonderful you and your daughter survived those first two decades! :-D

PMPS 401, 17th cycle @s1.25u, 1.35oz 3% FF classic turkey & giblets

Still slowly dropping in the yellows, maybe we will see some blue later?

Re: 12/3 Zener PMPS 401;~1 335;~2 298;~3 264 food carb? AT p

i was guessing with the 8%, so if someone else said 7% believe them! i just knew it was in the ballpark and no longer less than 5%.

What a bummer it is no longer less than 5%, we were pretty excited for a few minutes! I am completely blanking on who's condo it was where I read the 7%. Oh well, there are many things I forget these days - and I'm trying to appreciate my state of pleasant confusion.

Doesn't look like any blue tonight, but if this flat yellow is a bounce, it's not a bad one. ;-)

After a pukus start to the day, Zener rallied tonight. Feeling better, eating better, so beans feeling better too! :-D
