I just tested Simon at +3.5 after his PMPS and he tested at 40. I just gave him some more canned food and re-tested 15 minutes later. It is now 56. I gave him a little dry food and am going to re-test again in 15 minutes. Am I doing the right thing or should I have not given him dry food? I was just really scared when he came in at 40. He is acting fine and is purring and seems happy. He ate the food I gave him with no problem. Of course this is all happening when I was ready to go to sleep. I'll post again after a re-test.

Simon seems to be doing really well and his numbers are looking good. I think he is finally getting used to the testing because yesterday when I came home from work, he was sitting in the middle of the "testing room" with the testing equipment right next to him. I think he finally understands that he will get treats and fed after his test. It is much calmer around here! Hope today's numbers continue to be good.

Morning Georgia! Great AMPS for Simon! Looking good!

We link our condo from yesterday to our first post of each day...so we can click and see what transpired the day before. It keeps all our condos all together. So, here is your link to yesterday, Georgia: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=31147

It is so great that he is getting better with the testing now. How wonderful for you both! Sitting right next to the testing stuff in the testing room? WOW! That certainly makes things easier, doesn't it?

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but we do watch out of the 5Ps each day.
Peeing, Pooping, Preening, Purring and Playing. It is easy to then report on the Whole Cat...we say how many Ps we have noticed during the day since our kitties are a lot more than just their BG numbers! So, how is Simon feeling and how many Ps are in place so far today?

Hope you both have a Happy Friday!

Re: 12/3 Simon AMPS 154

Just a thought..... Have you given any thought to a timed feeder? You may want to provide the rest of Simon's food before +7.5. Generally, it's best to feed before nadir so the Lantus can more actively work on reducing the influence of the food. The activity of the insulin is reduced after nadir and feeding after +7 may cause the numbers later in the cycle to be higher.

Re: 12/3 Simon AMPS 154

I think Simon has all 5 P's today although I am still not sure how much he is peeing and pooping because I haven't separated him yet from my other cat. I did notice more of both in the litter box which is good since neither one of my cats seemed to have much action there since feeding the canned food. I am only feeding a few pieces of dry food in the AM and PM (down to about 10 little pieces for each cat). They still feel like they are getting something and they haven't seemed to meow too much after only giving them that much. Hopefully, by next week, they can cut out all of the dry food. I have also noticed that my other cat, Cleo, seems to have a little more energy. She only ate dry food (she preferred it) but now that she isn't eating as much and eating more canned, she seems a little thinner (a good thing) and is playing more.

Simon's bg at +8 was 91 so I am very happy. I am going to get an automatic feeder this weekend so I don't have to keep coming back from work and can feed him a little earlier.

Re: 12/3 Simon AMPS 154; +8 91

Timed feeders are really great.....it takes some kitties some time to adjust to them though. I heard that people have good results with putting treats in it at first.
Have you ever tried freeze dried chicken as a treat? I think halo makes some and I get the pure Bites. Much better for them than the dry food. Good luck with getting them all off it finally. It is worth the effort to wean them off it altogether! Good job!

Great job in getting them off that evil dry stuff!!
And great numbers for Simon, this could be the start of a VERY good trend!
Let us all know, the day that you manage to wave "bye-bye" for good, to that dry stuff - you can see already that any and all cats are FAR better off without it!
