Left at 4am Monday to try being able to stay home on Sunday. More terrible numbers, even before the trip. He peed all over his bedding and my fleece 5 minutes into the trip, then barfed all over the front seat, my coat, down the side of the seat, all over the seat controls. Near the end, the tunnel made him nauseous and be barfed all over the back seat. That one mostly caught by pee pads. His litter box, on the other hand, was untouched. No P's except for the one he left in his bed. One of the more terrible-er trips. I think it's time to back to Cerenia even though it seems to make him stoned.

Re: 12/3 Leo AMPS 387

HI guys so sorry about the horrible car trip yesterday, poor guy! Glad you are down to pink today for amps. Hope your day goes well and you see some nice numbers today!

Re: 12/3 Leo AMPS 387

Poor Leo and poor you. It does sound like a miserable trip. How much Cerenia are you giving him? We give Zener 1 mg, 3 times per week and it seems to help his digestion quite a bit.

Re: 12/3 Leo AMPS 387

Oh Leo. That trip did not sound good for either of you. Definitely, no fun.

Hopefully today has been a calmer day and by the time mamabean comes home you will be 'stable.'

Hang in there Lisa. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 12/3 Leo AMPS 387

Thank you guys for replying. The last day or so have been pretty dark. Now I'm tired and punchy, and I read our condo now and I want to go into fits of laughter that it was so miserable. Everything went right into the washer on arrival. I need to scrub the front carpet. Only you guys could commiserate that drying cat barf smells like McDonald's Big Mac special sauce and lettuce.

Hi Michelle - thank you - we both crashed in bed for an hour on arrival this morning and slept. He slept right against me. It's like we went through a storm together, poor guy. Hopefully he'll be in better numbers when I get home tonight.

Hi Liz (SEE, I GOT THAT RIGHT!) On a few trips I gave him 1 pill, which is 16mg about 6 hours before a trip. It helped with the projectile vomiting, but left him zoned, I think. When I stopped it (we had a couple short trips) he was more alert and enjoyed looking around a little, so I stopped it. But after this morning, I think I need to revisit that decision. You give only 1mg? How do you get such a small dose? Leo doesn't have digestion problems (well, he's loose and I give him FortiFlora which helps). Thank you for the input. Maybe if I give smaller doses for several days?

HI Karen - thank you for the hugs. I really needed them. I was in a dark place yesterday and today, and I didn't even want to put up his Condo, but I'm Type A and felt I needed to. I think he'll feel much better tonight. Hopefully his #s will reflect that.

Re: 12/3 Leo AMPS 387

Hi Lisa, and oh poor Leo and sorry for you, too! His numbers are coming down. I hope now that he is at home he is feeling better and calm. Sending some vines for both of you.
Leo, don't forget the cheese market today with mannie and crew, sis Mags

Re: 12/3 Leo AMPS 387

I think Cerenia was originally marketed as a dog car sickness med so that dose will be too much for a cat. I think we have 4 mg pills. It comes in a 4 pack that says 16 mg and each pill is 4 mg. Maybe Leo only got 4 mg?

We use a pill splitter. I don't remember where Ann got it but I can check if you want. That's the great thing about this board - someone is always ready with some words of encouragement to get you through the tough times. No worries about calling me Anne! It's confusing how we post.
Liz

Re: 12/3 Leo AMPS 387

Hi Ann - thank you dear. I'm getting the vines - I hope Leo is too. Well, hopefully he's off filling himself full of carb-free cheese with the crew. He sure was hungry when we arrived! He ate right away, which surprised me a little. I had to shoot as soon as I arrived and hoped he would eat.

Hi Liz - I'm not sure - I don't have the box in front of me but I'll check tonight. Looks like I didn't mark the does in his SS. My bad. I have a pill splitter somewhere at home. I could split it in half pretty easily, but in quarters would be a challenge without it. Thank you.

Re: 12/3 Leo AMPS 387 +3 342 +10.5 139 PMPS 144

Lisa, when Furball was diagnosed with FD, she also had an ear infection and UTI. She was throwing up and not eating. The vet gave me Cerenia for her. The box seems to be the same Liz mentioned. The instructions said to give Furball 1/4 of a tablet every 24 hours. I assume that is 1 mg. I used a pill splitter to divide the tablet into 4 pieces. It did help her to start eating again. Maybe you need to give Leo a smaller amount so he won't be stoned. I hope his next car ride goes better. It's nice to see a blue PMPS.

Re: 12/3 Leo AMPS 387 +3 342 +10.5 139 PMPS 144

(((Lisa))) I think we are all hoping that one day soon you'll be able to look back and this and laugh and see how much things have changed with Leo. He certainly is a work in progress! As someone with a cat who still bounces with the best of them, I can sympathize on the numbers the last couple of days. Tonight however, is another cycle. :-D :-D Go Leo!

When I got home this afternoon, DH wanted me to look at something on the kitchen floor that looked remarkably like pureed lettuce and Big Mac special sauce. Good description. Can't tell which one did it though.

Wendy - LOL!

I love DH's ... who won't clean it up, but always point it out so I can! I swear, men in my life think that animal "offerings" are caustic poison capable of blinding them and unmanning them if they were to scarcely touch them. :-D @-) :-D

I can't complain.....when Mikes kids were little and we were traveling, his son was going to be sick. Mike slammed on the brakes, jumped out of the car, and caught the pukus right in his hands   I thought I was gonna lose it

I'm so sorry Leo had such a bad trip. I wonder if ondansetron might help him? It's for nausea.

I'm glad you can laugh about it now. BTW, I hope I never smell a Big Mac again

Leo - you were doing so great. Come on down a bit more.

Lisa, DH did pick up the pukus. He just wanted me to see it (in case it was significant) before cleaning it up. In the past, I have complained about him disposing of something before I could check it - my bad.

Hi Lisa - so so sorry for the late post. It's been crazy here and I just couldn't get to the board til now.. I hope your day has been a good one.

SO sorry Leo had a bad trip... omg on the McDonalds comment.  Very nice Numbers today though - love those blues!!

HI Marje - wow on Mike's athletics, but perhaps it was because catching was better than car cleanup?   We haven't tried ondansetron - I read it isn't as good for motion sickness, but it's worth a try. I'll go back to the Cerenia for now - I have some, and it has worked in the past. We'll see if he still shows interest in his surroundings. He certainly becomes aware much sooner that we are traveling when he gets the pill that morning. Ugh.

HI Wendy - ok, that was good. I understand the idea of showing you what happened. Well, Leo only came to 168 (as far as I know) but I'm happy with that today ... nice and slowly. Less bounce potential Thanks!

Hi Michelle - No worries - the day was much better after we got a little sleep and woke back up for the rest of the day. Thanks on the blues!

Carla - I am thinking of the staggering the pill. I checked the label online and it says each tab is 16mg and that's the lowest dose. I'm confused. But it wouldn't be the first time! :-D
