Well Miss Autumn did it again, after her steep dive yesterday I dropped her dose even though she was high as a kite last night, then in 3 hours (way before onset) she went screaming down 200+ points. and was down another 100 or so by the time I finally closed my eyes at another hour later, I had planned on getting back up with her around midnight and set the alarm, but apparently I didn't check to make sure that the alarm was set for a.m. not p.m., so it didn't go off. I have no clue how low she actually went last night. But that 200 point drop early was enough to send her back into the 400's this morning.

If she makes another run for the basement on this dose I'm just gritting my teeth and taking her off insulin and hope and pray that she can pull it down on her own and stays there. I just can't keep letting her dive and bounce. At the very least it would give her a factory reset and then maybe I can find her dose.

This little girl has tried so hard so many times to pack her bags for the Falls and just doesn't seem to make it there, and I keep looking at her spreadsheet and wondering what am I missing with her? If she is trying to go OTJ then she is doing it in a way I've never seen a cat do it. Some days Autumn feels a lot like proof reading text, you know the word isn't spelled right, but you have no clue how it should be spelled, you just know that what is right in front of you isn't correct.

Well doesn't your SS say Autumn is a non-standard kitty? She's just having a bit of fun with you :-)

What does "packing her bags for the Falls mean" - OTJ?

At least she has someone watching over her that knows what they are doing. Hope she comes down gently today.

Juliet and Silver - who woke me up at 4am for TLC so this mommy only got 4 hrs sleep last night.

Re: 12/2 Autumn amps-433

Autumn is a non-standard kitty for a lot of reasons and they don't all fit in my signature....lol

First off, she is hypothyroid which is a rare condition in cats to begin with, and then she got that way by a non-standard means. Most cats that are hypothyroid are because they started out as hyperthyroid and have under gone a radiation treatment for the hyperthyroid and it worked a little to well, and killed off more of the thyroid than it should have. With Autumn her's in injury, her thyroid has been nicked so with her it varies on how much or how little it wants to produce. It is so borderline most of the time, that while I have the meds here, and she was on them for awhile, they screw her up more than just letting her stay borderline.

Second, Levemir is the only depot insulin that she can tolerate. On Lantus she is dangerous to be around, she turns vicious. She is tense and high strung and downright violent. But because of the way her thyroid works sometimes the Levemir last longer than it should in her system than it should.

And then lastly shortly after we moved, she scared us to death one evening, She was great, happy and loving at pmps, ate like a champ for me, then I went to feed her at +3 and she won't eat, but was acting hungry. She would start to eat, pull away and paw at her mouth and moan. So I pried her mouth open and one of her fangs was literally laying across the top of her mouth with the sharp point impaled into the roof of her mouth. I was able to get it out of the roof of her mouth but it was still hanging by a thread so I couldn't get it all the way out and of course the vet was closed. I tried to sleep that night but was up nearly every half hour checking on her. Then ran her in to the vet first thing in the morning. Where they pulled the fang, but didn't take the root. That was when I started looking for a new vet, especially since the one I was using wanted me to mix pancake syrup with her antibiotics knowing full well she is diabetic. They also gave her nothing for pain, and when I asked for something for her, since not only had she just had a tooth pulled she also have 3 stitches in the roof of her mouth. I was told, we don't want her pain free, because if she hurts she will stay quiet, plus cats don't feel much pain anyhow. That was the final straw with that vet. Love her to death as a person and we have been friends for nearly 40 years, but tell me my animal isn't hurting or worse yet, you are keeping her in pain on purpose we are done.

Found a wonderful new vet that actually has her act together when it comes to diabetic felines (actually sends her clients here). Got her completely checked out by the new vet and had her confirm something that I has suspected for 2 years that my other vet was blowing off. Yes, Autumn does have back problems and her spine and hips hurt her. Put her on Cosequin, Yes her mouth was still badly infected (her breath has reeked of infection since I adopted her, got her on the right antibiotics and finally no more smell of infection.) and took her back to the new vet and had her teeth cleaned and the root from the fang pulled.

Autumn is now healthier than she has ever been since I first laid eyes on her in the fur, but with the improved health as come with an entire new set of problems in that my once steady as a rock girl is now doing strange things numbers wise. She went from a cat that I could just about set my watch by, to one that I never have a clue without the meter what she is going to be doing when.

And yes, packing her bags for the Falls means going into remission or OTJ. When a cat is in remission we say they are Honeymooning and since so many folks when they get married got to Niagara Falls for their honeymoon we say ours are packing their bags to go there. lol Its kind of an anti-jinx thing, if we don't say the actual word remission maybe we won't jinx it. The other reason at least for me I like honeymooning almost better than OTJ is because it reminds us that just like the Honeymoon after a wedding it can end at any point so it is something we always need to watch for.

Re: 12/2 Autumn amps-433, +3-311 here she goes again

And the race for the lagoon has begun again. If she stays even reasonably lower tonight that's it she's done until she either factory resets or she makes up her mind to walk off the dance floor.

Nothing is more frustrating than knowing what is causing the bounces and not being able to stop them. It's like watching a train wreck and not being able to warn either train.

And we have splash down. I keep trying to convince her that while I think rainbows are pretty when they come after a thunderstorm and are in the sky I don't think they are nearly as lovely when they are on her spreadsheet.

There you go Juliet there is your green now all she is missing is yellow to make it a true rainbow...lol

And I'm sure it was there, I just didn't catch that test.

Autumn is an amazing cat, and her bean is even more amazing! When I read how she became hypothyroid, I just about lost it! She was sure lucky to find you and your crew!

Re: 12/2 Autumn amps-433, +3-311, +6-172, +9-96, pmps-147

Hmmm so whose not taking her own advice and shooting below 150

Re: 12/2 Autumn pmps-147, +3-351

Juliet

You are right I did shoot below 150.

But I have the data to back the decision. I know that when Autumn drops like she did today, she is going to bounce the next cycle and right on cue there she goes.

Re: 12/3 Autumn amps-246

Well she didn't keep me up last night but still didn't get to hit the sheets until 2 a.m. As I ended up helping my neighbor with her kitty that is also diabetic because he was way too low, not hypo range, but lower than she wanted to see before going to bed, and she was running low on strips, so called me to see if I had the same meter and strips she could borrow. Unfortunately we have different meters, so I told her that I would make the run to Walmart for her, so she could stay with Klondike.

Then ended up staying at her house talking to her so that she would stay awake to test until he was up where she needed him to be. Boy! You should have seen the crusty looks I got when I got home again and crawled into bed, from Autumn and Lady Jane.    "Where have you been? And why do you smell like another cat? It's late and we're tired get in here so we can lay on you, slave!"

Re: 12/3 Autumn amps-246

Hahaha! when I got home last night after being away for a week, I got the - "you have been around DOGS?"
My dad has a weimeriner, my uncle has a golden retriever, cousin has a black lab (who is diabetic, I was pounding some info into her - get ketosticks!), a friend who has 2 pugs - I think that is it. I was around a Maine Coon on Monday, but I think the pants I was wearing were more "dog" smell. Must be why Dallas got so god-aweful sick last night...

Re: 12/3 Autumn amps-246, +4-222

Thank You Lord, nice easy drop so far today. cat_pet_icon

Yeah, about the only two here that will give me dirty looks if I come in smelling of strange animals are Autumn and Lady Jane Grey, everyone else just checks to make sure I didn't come in with a carrier... haha_smiley haha_smiley

They have learned that if a carrier doesn't go out the door and one comes in after mom has been away for awhile, we have a new family member. And a welcoming committee is formed. Usually not to the new family members liking.

I usually get this:

Re: 12/3 Autumn amps-246, +4-222

Oh I would LOVE to get another critter or two....but 1) I'm pretty sure the resident creatures wouldn't be happy and 2) I am in a one bedroom apartment and the space wouldn't allow it. My landlords upstairs are terrified of cats so they have been very good in allowing me to have the two I do have. Oh but I would love another kitten........I hate seeing the kitties in the cages at the pet store when I go to get my stuff. I want to take them all home just to get them out of the tiny cage.

Re: 12/3 Autumn amps-246, +4-222, +6-204, +11-52, pmbg-78

Looks like Miss Autumn does not want her shot this evening. :-D Or at least mom isn't crazy enough to shoot a 78 with her +11 only being 52! Because if I figure in the +/- 20% meter variance that 78 might not be a rising number. And the way she has been diving and bouncing lately I'd rather sleep a full 8 hours (oh I'm I kidding I haven't slept a straight 8 full hours since I was in my 20's  ) than hold another pajama party with her. If she wants to see me in my p.j's that badly she'll just have to crawl under the covers tonight in bed.. ohmygod_smile

Although I will check her again when she gets her last meal for the night which would also put her back on the 16/16 if she is high enough by then to shoot.

I keep showing her all the kitties here that are packing their bags for the Falls and trying to talk her into joining them, so far no dice. <sigh>

she'll do it Mel. She's going to want to be with all her friends.

Re: 12/3 Autumn amps-246, +4-222, +6-204, +11-52, pmbg-78

And there's the Autumn we all know and love, no matter how stressful it gets. @-)

She wants to go to the falls SO bad, now if her body would just cooperate, she'd be gone, packing her Friskee's and bikini!

Come on girl, you can do it! dancing_cat
