in the 400's this morning. Looks like he is feeling good so far today. I was unable to get him over to the vet yesterday for the urine test, so I'll do that today and I'll make sure I pick up a copy of the labs as well.

*Edit
Question.. how much and how often do you feed your kitty? At this point, when he asks for food, I give it, because he has lost so much weight. and really, he only nibbles, he doesn't eat a ton at each meal. I don't free feed unless I will be away for several hours.

I'm just curious how many times a day ya put food down for your kitty.

Re: 12/29 Todd AMPS 496, +2 406 (Question About Feeding)

I'm no expert on this, but I feed Lightning 12 times a day!! I can't even believe it when I actually type it!! But I have an automatic feeder so its not like I'm manually doing it all day and night. He gets 1/4 can of the 3oz Fancy Feast at AM/PM shot and then at each +1, +2, +3, +5, +8. I give him food at his AM +8 to try and keep his PMPS lower (not sure if it actually works) and then at his PM+8 because at night he had been throwing up some clear liquid and the vet said it was because he's hungry.

This is probably WAYYYYY overkill on the food, but until I get Lightning in some sort of routine with his numbers, I like to keep the food thing consistent. So, that's our story :-D

I have a timed feeder.

So, you will see in my tagline my feeding times and amounts.

Generally there is no food after nadir, unless Attie is pulling a late drop stunt. Then, do not follow our example. We have lots of data on what Attie is up too.

How much is Todd underweight?

When Attie first arrived with me he was down to 4-6#s. We fed canned twice a day and free fed dry. This required increased insulin, but he also need to put on close to 10lbs. I actually have a dry feeder you fill and it holds several days worth of food. Once Attie doubled his weight we began feeding in a more controlled situation. Setting times of day and controlled amounts.

At that time we did half can Purina d/m at 7am
Purina d/m kibble half a cup 9am (this he would nibble throughout the day, if he emptied it...no more he had to wait for dinner)
Dinner half can at about 6pm.
and another half cup kibbies for overnight
*we were on 8 units of Humilin N, BID

Today...see my tagline. The food needs are much, much less. As he got healthier, we removed the kibble and eventually the entire prescription diet and kibbles.

Re: 12/29 Todd AMPS 496, +2 406 (Question About Feeding)

my two cats have always been free fed (aka the never ending buffet). I hear this is not normal nor desirable for cats.

I put down plates of wet gooshy food in the morning (sometime between 8am and 10am) and then refresh the plates when I get home (anywhere between 6-10pm). These plates get moved to the bedroom when we go to bed. Then the plates are picked up and washed in the AM.

I think since ECID, you have to think about whether your cat has a spike in BG from food or not. If little difference, then why not be more flexible with the food? If Todd spikes quite a bit, then I'd be more regimented about it and not feed too close to shot time.

Also, HOW much you feed is going to differ greatly according to activity level, age, over or under weight, and how regulated your cat is (plus other stuff like medical complications/history).

hope that helps.
