All is good here. Ollie is cheery and waiting for his walk.
There was one odd thing yesterday. We were on the porch, ollie sitting in the corner watching outside and all of a sudden he started meowing loud and mournful. the next thing he was running around like crazy, eyes wide, like he was scared to death and trying to find a place to hide. he kept looking over his head and crouching down. I finally caught him and he was growling as i picked him up. I brushed and talked to him and covered his head. he finally started to calm down. When i tested him he was at 75. this happened 12/26 also again he was in the 70s- again while he was on the porch looking outside. Has anyone else seen this behavior? i guess it's possible that he saw something outside that really did scare him. poor little guy.

Morning guys yes that is odd behavior and I have no explanation? Maybe something scared him outside like a bird? Do you have blue jays around? I know they are mean. Not sure, guess if it happens again you will really have to survey the area and see if there is anything that may be freaking him out. Hope you have a happy Caturday!

Morning Mary,

That is kind of strange behavior, I don't know what to say. You mentioned him being in the 70's both times, and it was on the porch both times as well? Maybe it was another animal (sight or sound, maybe even smell) that frightened Oliver. Has it ever happened inside the house? I hope it doesn't happen again, I'm sure it was kind so scary to watch.

Hi Mary, that is odd behavior and with the growling, too. You mentioned he was in the 70's. Any time Maggie drops, she lets me know in some fashion she's dropping, like anxiously wanting food or jumping onto her testing spot. But with Ollie and the outside thing, it does sound like he smelled or saw something outside. Let us know if you solve the mystery. Have a nice day.

Hi Mary,
It sure sounds as if Ollie saw "something" outside that scared him, or that brought back a bad memory. A week or so ago Rusty did something similar: We were turning in for the night. He had come upstairs (which he only does at bedtime, for some mysterious reason, since he likes to be with us and we spend a lot of time in our upstairs studies during the day). Then he went into the guestroom, where he hardly ever goes. Then he came tearing out of the guestroom, all puffed up and meowing loudly. I think he had an encounter with Stu's spirit. Stu used to sleep on the futon in the guest room.
Cats are mysterious and complex creatures. We can (and should) never know all that goes on in their minds. They have great insticts. We just have to respect that!

Hi Mary

I hope you solve the mystery - Leo howls and acts a little crazy when his territory is invaded (he is inside only) but he doesn't act scared, so I don't know. When he goes low, sometimes he tears around the house like a banshee.

That is strange behavior. It does sound like something outside scared him. Maybe with the lower number he is more alert because he's feeling better and noticed something he wouldn't have in the past. I hope Oliver comes back down for you today.

Good morning Mary. Is it possible something bit or stung him, maybe a small spider or ant. PF will howl load and run around with his ears back when he's trying to get one of the civvies to play but isn't scared. He finishes by attacking his scratching post. I hope you can find out what happened. Poor guy.

About the odd behaviour.....did he sort of fluff up his tail like a bottlebrush? My siamese mix Pierre does all of the described right down to the weird howling, whenever there's another cat in our backyard that he spots from inside the house.
Of course it might also be something different....like gas ;-)

Hi All, you were right... someone was invading Ollie's territory.
The goofy behavior happened again this afternoon. I brought him inside and went back to the porch.. sure enough ..... bunnies running for cover, ducks taking off out of the pool.....it was a bobcat sauntering through the backyard. It's a FL bobcat so he's small, like a large cat. We haven't seen him for awhile and thought he was gone. He's one of the reasons none of our cats go outside anymore and they're not allowed to sleep overnight on the porch.

Not much action today for Ollie. We'll see if anything happens tonite.

Hi Wendy, yes, a little surf action tonite.!!! I woke up for the 4.5 alarm, turned it off and put my head back down.... bad bean. i think i'll just stay vertical until his next test.
