I gave J.D. some R at AMPS this morning. He's been eating okay last night and this morning. Not full meals at a time, but some of his meals, and lots of freeze dried topping and there have been a few Temptations thrown in. I feel like with the testing treats of freeze dried food and the toppings on the LC cat food that he has eaten almost as much freeze dried food as he has wet food.

We are finally starting to get some decent snow. Yay!

J.D. has been doing this thing with his waterer for a couple months now, where he somehow puts his forehead under the stream of water and at the same time drinks from the water in the bowl, so he often has a wet forehead.

Right now he's laying on the top stairs of the basement, looking kind of sullen, as I yelled at him to come back when he started to go through the door that leads down into the basement a few minutes ago.

I have to cook a turkey today, that a neighbor gave to me last Saturday and it wasn't thawed in time for Christmas.
I'm planning to just put foil over it and cook it. Is that okay? Then I'm planning to take some of the cooked meat to her and some of it to my elderly neighbor, as I do not have any room in my freezer for anything more, and I don't love turkey as it is.

Hi JD and Dyana what an array of numbers today! how cute is he with his wet forehead? Foil is good but you know what makes a moist turkey is an oven bag, just a thought. Hope you have a nice Caturday!

R is doing it's job....nice +5.5 number!

Now, let's talk turkey.....I've heard that if you roast it upside down (breast side down in pan) the white meat is very juicy. I've done that once and didn't see any big difference! What I usually do is cut a few little slices in the breast skin and put some butter pieces in those. I put a little bit of oil on the breast (rub a dub dub!) and some seasonings (salt, pepper, poultry season). Put a little chicken broth in the pan with the chicken (for gravy) cover w/foil and cook 15 minutes per lb. The last half hour I take the foil off and crisp and brown up the skin (that is my fav part, besides the white meat, even though it's bad for ya). Let rest a half hour before cutting.

I hope your turkey comes out great!

J.D. ate some 5% (LC for him  ) and was 104 at +7.5, and is now down in the basement with Ginger.

I just washed it with cold water, put a tiny bit of salt and an even tinier bit of pepper on it and put it in the roasting pan (with water and 1 onion and some garlic I happened to have on hand, DBF says it's very slippery outside and I don't want to go to the store to buy anything else), and I covered it with foil (and put a layer of foil on my bottom oven rack to try to protect my oven). I plan to take off the foil 30 minutes before it's done.
I forgot to put butter on or in it. And I have plenty of butter.

Isn't the hard part, carving the thing?

Okay, so the gizzards and innards are boiling, I guess the neck is worthless (for the cats) and I should just throw it out.

The Germans put celery in a chicken when roasting, supposed to keep it moist. Are you trying to visit every floor, J.D.? Sounds like a good idea to stay inside today, Dyana.

Yeah, he wanted to go through all the floors today.

I have to get to WalMart to get syringes sometime today. And Pepcid.

Glad J.D. came down for you today. Turkey sounds good, enjoy!!!

Re: 12/29 J.D. PMPS 217

The turkey is done finally, and cooling.

J.D. is not interested in his 1st Dinner. He ate (happily ate) about a teaspoon of some minced up boiled turkey giblets or innards at +11 that were served to him at the perfect mouse temperature. Maybe his FF needs to be at that perfect temperature

I'm off to Walmart before the pharmacy closes to get syringes.

Hi Dyana - well, I love turkey! :-) Sounds like you did it similar to the way I do it. It nice you are giving some of the turkey back to her and your neighbor.

I love J.D.'s feeder behavior! My DS's cat stands at the sink and lets the water run on her head as she drinks. Funny!

I hope you let J.D. come to Leo's party - the Rainbow King is being coronated for his repeated leaps and bounces from hi to low. Leo is overseeing the back yard now and taking a bath in preparation for the festivities :-)

Hey Dyana
Your turkey sounds yummy.. it is kind of a mess to carve. but if there's no carving police to watch... just whack off the legs and thighs, cut the breast into slices, and it'll be perfect.
That's cute that J.D. likes his food at perfect mouse temp... I hope you have a great night. hugs to you and scritches to J.D.
