Waaaaaaaay wrong direction, feeling very helpless and so bad for my boy. I sure hope there's something that can be done to get the blood out of his urine and him feeling better. I have an icky feeling in the pit of my stomach.
I pray that you all have a very pleasant Saturday and that your kitties are healthy.

just read your condo from yesterday. we also thought adequan helped punkin's arthritis - and maybe it helped his bladder too. i don't know. he had bladder infections repeatedly pre-diabetes but none after diagnosis. i don't think you could harm anything by trying it. once we'd given it to him for a while we added it to his subq fluids. i think that worked ok and it saved him from one more shot. you can buy the iv tubing that has a little port for adding stuff to it. we'd put in the adequan and the vit b12 when they were scheduled.

glad to see him come down into the 100's, even if it took the R to get him there. it's still good.
 
Lauren, have you used R to continue to hold the #s down? That is something I did a few times with punkin - so in other words, you got him to 140 just now with the R. that was 5.5 hrs post R dose - if it were me, when he starts going back up as the R dose has worn off, i'd try giving just 0.25 or so to hold it flat and lower. if you haven't done that previously, you might not know what it will do so you'll just be info gathering the first time. but sometimes a little bit will keep the good range you've gotten to.

just a thought.

and i'll add for lurkers - Tommy has acromegaly, a high dose condition, so this thought is not for other cats, only tommy.
 
Hang in there, Lauren. You're doing what needs to be done and that's what counts. I'm glad Julie is here to help you since she has so much acro experience. I'm hoping you decide to try the Adequan. It may be just what Tommy needs.

Julie, I've not done what you said about the R, at least not this go around, but I understand what you're saying and I think it's a good idea. I seem to recall reading not too long ago that I could give R after +8..
I'm not sure what to make of the beautiful blue number right now, but I'm not going to question it.

you can give it any time that the nadirs of R and Lantus won't coincide. So anytime from the nadir on til the next shot would likely work for tommy.

the other time you don't want to give it is if he's clearing a bounce and the clearing might coincide with the onset of the R. Then you can get a freight train action going that is hard to stop, plus if it's too fast you know it can set up yet another bounce.

That's why I liked to give it just as the numbers were starting to rise. no chance of that freight train problem, or of coinciding nadirs. Plus the benefit was huge and extended into the next couple of cycles.

Anyway, you'll have to shout at me if you try it so i can see how it worked for Tommy!
