12/28 Tiger AMPS HI, PMPS 359

Ok thx….i will do the LC gradual then. Although he refused a mixture of old and new at dinner tonight. He wanted the new food.
Thx for your advice tonight. Going to bed, won’t sleep till I know he has quit dropping. Will post if anything happens.

I'll check his SS tonight because I'll worry.

Deb, his high carb kibble alone will carry whatever concerns you have about the low carb canned drastically affecting him.

If his new food isn't hurting his belly, and that's all he wants, give it to him. Both foods are made by FF. I don't think it will cause any GI problems but you never know. All diet changes should be gradual, but he has to eat too.

Deb, I didn’t see a post this morning yet, so I’ll offer a few observations.

While the BG values the last several days have been generally high and flat, I want to encourage you to start getting a feel for some of the basics, if they haven’t already been shared with you since it will help you going forward. You have been able to get a good range of tests so that you can start to understand how the insulin is working, and understanding these concepts below as they relate to your cat is important:
  • Onset - the length of time before insulin reaches the bloodstream & begins lowering blood glucose
  • Peak/Nadir - the lowest point in the cycle
  • Duration - the length of time insulin continues to lower blood glucose
Last night’s cycle you did have a little drop into +2 and at that point as I suggested, feeding a couple teaspoons of LC would have been fine. Why? Well what you likely saw was onset and the BG was 299, so he came down a little from preshot, certainly less than a 20% variance. Since you have the benefit of the Libre that makes it easy to have follow up tests.

The Libre can be a bit of a double edged sword. While all the extra data is helpful, try not to get too lost in the amount of data that it gives, and look for specific trends to establish when your cat onsets and nadirs. Another thing to keep in mind is that nadirs can and do move around, but with cycles that are high and flat, you won’t have a discernible nadir.

I did a new post, likely you were here when I did.

I did ask about patterns and tendencies a while back, but no one answered me. I appreciate this info as I have noticed some of the patterns.

No one answered you? I've spent a lot of time helping you, trying to explain things to you in terms you can understand. Disappointing to see this comment.

Oh no Sybil, that’s not what I meant! You have been extremely helpful!! It was weeks ago when I asked.about Nadirs and patterns and their meaning. It was nice to see the definitions of the concepts too.

no one here has taken as much time as you have with me. You have no idea how grateful I am!!!

I have so much to learn and can learn from everyone here but you actually took the time to hold my hand . I am deeply sorry it sounded that way….
Sorry it took me a while to respond but I was so tired I took a 2 hour snooze on the couch and didn’t see it.
Forgive me.

No worries.

I hope Tiger is doing well today and is still loving his new food.
He is doing good but I don’t know what it is, whenever we dose over 1.5 , he always seems a little bit out of it.
Funny now he doesn’t want his other food. So much for gradual changeover!

thanks for responding. I feel so bad it sounded that way….was not meant that way.

No guilt. You cleared it up. No worries. Promise.

Right now Tiger really needs more insulin. He can't stop at 1.5 U right now. Maybe there will be a time he can be there or even less, jut not right now. Other than new dose wonkiness, I wouldn't know what he's doing.

Sometimes Basic acts weird. I check his BG and it is in the 200s. Other times, he's running around like crazy (this is new behavior since diagnosis) and he test in the 200s. Theb, there are times it is when he is lower. What this tells me is... he's a cat. Cats aren't predictable. They don't follow your rules you think you've set forth. Remember, he's a former outdoor cat that doesn't want to fussed with much. Keep that in mind. My guy is the biggest momma's boy ever. I've been in his face hourly for over 90 days and he is over it. He isn't mad, but I can tell he is over me fussing over him. So, I've stopped fussing over him. I will respect his boundaries.
